Braun LE02 Smart Speaker

LE02 is a uniquely powerful mid-sized smart speaker with high dynamic range and immersive sound. You can team LE02 with accessories such as wall brackets and floor stands that help with cable management.

Controls

Control your LE02 by using the buttons on the top of the speaker.

Button Description
A Skip back

If you press the button after the first three seconds of the track, the button restarts the current track.
B| Play/pause| Press to play or pause audio.
C| Skip forward| Press to go to the next track.
D| Action button| Press to activate the Google Assistant without saying “Hey Google”.
E| Bluetooth pairing| Press and hold for 2 seconds to activate Bluetooth pairing mode.
When the pairing mode is activated, press to cancel.
F| Volume down| Press to decrease the volume.
Press and hold to decrease the volume faster.
G| Volume up| Press to increase the volume.
Press and hold to increase the volume faster.
H| Mechanical privacy button| Press to mute the microphones.
When the microphones are muted, the Google Assistant cannot be activated.
Press again to enable the microphones and voice input.

The speaker is in the Airplay WAC setup mode. This allows the speaker to be set up for Airplay on an iOS device. The setup mode is available for 15 minutes, after which time the setup mode is disabled and the status light turns off.

Your LE02 has the following connections and buttons on the rear of the speaker.

Getting started

Attaching the tabletop stand or the silicone feet

If you are placing your speaker on a flat surface, you can either attach the tabletop stand or the silicone feet.

To attach the tabletop stand:

1. Place the speaker face down on a clean and stable surface.
2. Insert each of the stand legs into the holes at the rear of the speaker.
3. Push down on each of the stand legs until the machined groove on the leg is sub-flush with the rear panel of the speaker. You will hear a click when the leg is fully secured.

When moving the speaker, do not lift the speaker by the legs.

To attach the silicone feet:

1. Place the speaker face down on a clean and stable surface.
2. Remove the protective cover from the silicone feet.
3. Attach the silicone feet to the bottom of the speaker.

Switching on your speaker

To switch on your speaker, connect it to a power socket.

1. Connect the supplied power cable to your LE02.
2. Connect the other end of the power cable to a power socket.
One white status light starts pulsating from dim to bright. The speaker switches on and is ready for use when the status light disappears.

Downloading the Braun Audio app

The Braun Audio app is available on mobile phones and tablets.

The Braun Audio app takes you through the setup process and gives you tips on how to use your speaker.

You can use the Braun Audio app to:

  • Optimise the audio performance for the placement of your speaker.
  • Fine tune the treble and bass of the speaker.
  • Add additional speakers.
    To download the Braun Audio, visit the app store for your iOS or Android™ mobile phone.

Optimising the audio performance for the placement of your speaker

The placement of your LE speaker in a room can have a big effect on its sound. Selecting speaker position and accessory options during setup in the Braun Audio app ensures that the system’s digital signal processing has been optimally configured to match the placement of your speaker in relation to the hard surfaces around it.

You will enjoy highly dynamic, crystal clear, immersive, uniquely Braun sound once placement setup is complete.

To optimise the sound of your speaker:

1. Open the Braun Audio app.
2. Choose the type of accessory you are using with your speaker.
3. Choose the position of your speaker.
The speaker intelligently adapts playback to optimise it for its location.

Choosing speaker orientation

You can select landscape or portrait speaker orientation.

In the landscape orientation, apply either the tabletop stand or the silicon feet to your speaker. See “Attaching the tabletop stand or the silicone feet”.

When you place the speaker on a counter or a table, place the speaker in the landscape orientation to avoid sound interference caused by vibrations.

After the speaker is set up, you can fine tune the treble and bass in the Braun Audio app. You should adjust the treble and bass when music is playing.

Connecting an Ethernet cable

You can connect your LE02 to the Internet using the Ethernet cable.

For better sound quality and stable streaming, use an Ethernet cable instead of a Wi-Fi connection.

1. Connect the Ethernet cable to the rear end of your LE02.
2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your router.

Setting up your Google Assistant

Meet your Google Assistant. Ask it questions, and tell it to do things. The more you use it, the more useful it gets. See “The Google Assistant”.

To get the most out of your LE02, set up your Google Assistant in the Google Home app. Download the Google Home app from the app store on your iOS or Android mobile phone.

1. Plug in your Google Assistant device.
2. Connect your mobile device to the Wi-Fi network that you’ll use for your Google Assistant device.
3. Get the latest version of the Google Home app and Google app:

  • Go to the Google app page, then follow the same steps.
  • Go to the Google Home app page, then tap Install or Update (whichever option appears). If you see Installed, you already have the latest version.

4. Make sure your device has Android 5.0 or higher. Learn how to check and update your Android version.
5. On your phone or tablet, open the Google Home app . Follow the steps.
Note: If you don’t see the steps to set up your device: At the bottom left, tap Home > Add .

After setting up your Google Assistant, go back to the Braun Audio app to finish setup.

The Google Assistant is not available in all languages and countries. Learn more about where the Assistant is available: support.google.com/assistant.

Adding additional speakers
You can add additional speakers using the Braun Audio app and the Google Home app.

1. Open the Braun Audio app.
2. Tap Set up a new speaker.
3. Follow the steps in the Braun Audio app.
4. Follow the steps in the Google Home app.
5. Follow the steps in the Braun Audio app to finish adding the speaker.

Stereo pairing

If you want to achieve true stereo sound, you can pair two speakers together.

You can pair your speaker with another speaker using the Google Home app.

1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as both speakers.
2. Open the Google Home app .
3. In the bottom of the Home screen, tap Discover > Pair your speakers.
4. Tap PAIR SPEAKERS.
5. Under Set up speaker pair, tap Next.
6. Choose your pair > NEXT.
The status lights on one of the speakers start flashing.

7. Tap Left or Right to match the location of the blinking speaker.
8. Tap NEXT.
Note: Your Assistant responds from the left speaker.

9. Under Where is your pair?, choose a room for the speaker pair.
10. Tap NEXT.
11. Create a name for your speaker pair.
12. Tap NEXT > DONE.

Using your speaker

The Google Assistant

Meet your Google Assistant. Ask it questions, and tell it to do things. The more you use it, the more useful it gets.

To start a conversation with your Google Assistant, do either of the following:

  • Just say “Hey Google”.
  • Press the Action button .

The Google Assistant is not available in all languages and countries. Learn more about where the Assistant is available: support.google.com/assistant.

Chromecast built-in

You can cast music, radio stations and podcasts from Chromecast enabled apps to your LE02.

Before you begin casting music, make sure that your speaker and the device you want to cast from are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

You must be running the latest version of the Chromecast enabled app. You can always double-check that you are on the latest version by visiting the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and check for any app updates.

Cast music using Chromecast built-in for audio:

1. Open a Chromecast enabled app.
2. In the top-right corner, tap the Cast button .
3. Choose your speaker.
You can now cast to your speaker. The Cast button will turn colour Chromecast connection is active, letting you know that you’re connected.

Apple AirPlay 2

Apple AirPlay 2 is a technology designed to control home audio systems and speakers in any room — with a tap or by just asking Siri — right from iPhone, iPad, HomePod, or Apple TV. Play a song in the living room and kitchen at the same time or adjust the volume in any room, all in sync.

You can use Apple Music on your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch, or HomePod to play music on the speaker.

To control this Apple AirPlay 2–enabled speaker, iOS 11.4 or later is required.

To play music using Apple AirPlay 2:

1. On your iOS device, open Control Center.
2. In the upper-right corner, press and hold the audio card.
3. Tap the Apple AirPlay 2 icon .
4. Choose your speaker.
You can now stream music to your speaker.

Multiroom

You can group every speaker you set up in the Google Home app.

Make sure that your mobile phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your speakers. See “How do I group my LE speakers with other Google Assistant or Chromecast built-in speakers?”.

Chromecast built-in

To use your LE02 in a multiroom setup with Chromecast built-in and other compatible smart speakers, configure settings in the Google Home app. See “How do I group my LE speakers with other Google Assistant or Chromecast built-in speakers?”.

Apple AirPlay 2

To use your LE02 in a multiroom setup with other Apple AirPlay 2 compatible speakers, configure settings in the Apple AirPlay 2 setting on your iOS device. See “Apple AirPlay 2”.

Bluetooth

You can use your LE02 as an external speaker for your Bluetooth-enabled mobile device.

Connecting a Bluetooth device
Before you can use Bluetooth on your LE02, set up your Google Assistant. See “The Google Assistant”.

To connect a new Bluetooth device:

1. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device.
2. Put the speaker in pairing mode by either pressing and holding the Bluetooth pairing button, or saying “Hey Google, turn on Bluetooth”.

3. On your mobile device, select your LE02 from the list of available Bluetooth devices.
When your mobile device is connected to your LE02, your speaker pulsates four bright and dim blue status lights.

To connect to a previously paired mobile device:

1. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device.
2. On your mobile device, select your speaker from the list of available Bluetooth devices.

Disconnecting a Bluetooth device
To disconnect a Bluetooth device:

  • On your mobile device, go to the Bluetooth settings and disconnect the device from your LE02.
  • Say “Hey Google, turn off Bluetooth”.
Connecting an auxiliary device

You can connect your LE02 to a mobile phone, tablet or computer, using a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable.

1. Connect the auxiliary cable to the rear end of your LE02.
2. Connect the other end of the auxiliary cable to your music device.

Muting the microphones

To give you complete privacy, you can mechanically disconnect the microphones in your speaker. You cannot control your LE02 using your voice when the microphones are muted.

  • To mute the microphones, press the Mechanical privacy button to raise it.
    The button is now orange and your Google Assistant is disabled.

  • To unmute the microphones, press the Mechanical privacy button to lower it.
    The button is now green and your Google Assistant is enabled.

You can easily check whether the microphones are muted on your speaker by ensuring the Mechanical privacy button is raised and orange.

Settings

Resetting to factory conditions

If your LE02 is not responding, you can physically reset the speaker to factory conditions.

To reset your speaker to factory conditions:

1. Insert a paperclip into the reset hole on the back of your speaker, until you make contact with the reset button.
2. Press and hold the reset button. Four orange status lights appear.
3. When the left status light turns yellow, release the reset button.

Updating software

Software updates are downloaded and installed on your speaker automatically.

One yellow status light is pulsating when an update is in progress.

Safety information

  1. Read all the safety information and instructions before using the product. When passing this product to someone, include all documents.
  2. If you do not follow the operating instructions provided, it may compromise the safety of your product and this may invalidate the warranty.
  3. Only use attachments/accessories specified by Pure Europe GmbH for use with this product.
  4. This product is intended for indoor use only. When in use ensure adequate ventilation and airflow around the product.
  5. Do not expose the product to dripping or splashing. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the product. If liquid spills onto the product, switch it off at the mains immediately, disconnect the mains plug and contact your dealer. Never touch the plug or the product with wet hands.
  6. Using the product in rooms or climates with high humidity and temperatures may cause condensation to form inside the product, which can damage the product. Use the product in moderate climates only.
  7. Do not use your product in extremely hot or cold temperatures. Keep the product away from heat sources, such as radiators or gas/electric fires. Do not expose your product to naked flames, such as lighted candles.
  8. Verify Line Voltage Before Use: The Braun LE02 speaker has been designed for use with 100- 230 Vrms, 50/60 Hz AC current. Connection to a supply voltage other than that for which your product is intended can create a safety and fire hazard and may damage the unit. If you have any questions about the voltage requirements for your specific model or about the supply voltage in your area, contact your selling dealer before plugging the unit into a wall outlet.
  9. Handle the AC Power Cord with Care: When disconnecting the power cord from an AC outlet, always pull the plug; never pull the cord. Install the product in a location where the power cable will not be trampled or pinched.
  10. If you do not intend to use your speaker for any considerable length of time, disconnect the plug from the AC outlet. The products primary disconnect device is the mains plug and should be readily accessible.
  11. Do Not Use Extension Cords: To avoid safety hazards, use only the power cord supplied with your unit. We do not recommend that extension cords be used with this product. As with all electrical devices, do not run power cords under rugs or carpets, or place heavy objects on them. Damaged power cords should be replaced immediately by an authorized service centre with a cord that meets factory specifications.
  12. Do Not Open the Cabinet: There are no user-serviceable components inside this product. Opening the cabinet may present a shock hazard, and any modification to the product will void your warranty. If water accidentally falls inside the unit, disconnect it from the AC power source immediately.
  13. Dispose of the product in accordance with local environmental rules.
  14. Disconnect your product from the power supply during lightning storms or if you will not use your product for a long period of time (for example, if you are going on holiday).
  15. Always unplug your product from the AC power supply before cleaning. When cleaning the product, do not use any type of abrasive pad or abrasive cleaning solutions as these may damage the product’s surface.
  16. When exposed to electrostatic discharge, the device may malfunction. Reset the device to enable full recovery. If interference occurs, reorient or relocate the product. Increase the separation between devices causing and receiving interference.
  17. Cease to use the product if there are any abnormalities during operation, such as high temperature, discolouration, bulging, leakage, and so on.
  18. Medical device interference: The product contains a radio and other components that emit electromagnetic fields and magnets. These electromagnetic fields and magnets may interfere with pacemakers, defibrillators or other medical devices. Maintain a safe distance of separation between your medical device and the product. Consult your doctor and medical device manufacturer for information specific to your medical device. Stop using the product if you suspect it is interfering with your pacemaker, defibrillator or any other medical device.
  19. When using a stand to mount your speaker, please follow the specific installation / safety instruction that are provided with the stand.
  20. These products are heavy, please take sensible precautions when handling or moving.
  21. If connecting your LE02 by the Ethernet port, please ensure that you use an unshielded cable to connect directly to your router.
  22. In very rare instances extreme temporary EMI emissions local to the location of the speaker may cause the audio to break up. The speaker will resume playing once the interference disappears. Please see www.braun-audio.com/support for more information.
Caution

Extended listening at high volumes may lead to hearing loss.

  • To avoid damage to health, avoid extended listening at high volumes.
  • At high volumes, always maintain a certain distance to the speaker and never hold your ears directly up to a speaker.
  • If an audio system is set to full volume, it may produce very high sound pressure. This may have psychological consequences and also cause physical injury. Children and pets are particularly at risk. Set the volume control of the LE speaker to a low setting after use to avoid unexpected high volumes.

Warranty

Pure Europe GmbH warrants to the end user that this product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship in the course of normal use for a period of two years from the date of purchase.

This guarantee covers breakdowns due to manufacturing or design faults; it does not apply in cases such as accidental damage, however caused, wear and tear, negligence, adjustment, modification or repair not authorised by us.

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Speaker doesn’t switch on • Connect your speaker to another power socket.
Speaker is not connecting to the Wi-Fi network • Check to see if other

devices are able to connect to the router.
• Reboot the router.
• Move your LE02 away from possible sources of interference (for example, microwaves, TV sets or cordless phones).
The Google Home app doesn’t find my speaker| • Check your speaker is connected to a power socket.
• Check you are using the most recent version of the Google Home app.
• If you’re using an iOS device, turn on Bluetooth.
• If you’re using an Android device, turn on location services.
• Restart the Google Home app.
• Reboot the speaker.
• Reset the speaker to factory conditions.
The Google Assistant doesn’t respond| • Make sure your LE02 is connecting and within range of your Wi-Fi network/ router.
• Make sure you have set up the Google Assistant in the Google Home app.
• Check that the Google Assistant is available in your country.
• Make sure the Mechanical privacy button on the top of the speaker has not been enabled, indicated by the button being green.
• Move closer to the speaker to make sure that the Google Assistant can hear you.
Sound breaks up or no sound| • Check your speaker is connected to a power socket and switched on.
To check whether the issue is with the speaker, press the Mechanical privacy button. If you still don’t hear a sound do the following:
• Make sure your LE02 is connecting and within range of your Wi-Fi network/ router or Bluetooth.
• Check to see if other wireless devices are experiencing similar problems.
• Reboot the router.
• If you’re using an auxiliary connection, replace the auxiliary cable.
• Reboot the speaker.
Speaker doesn’t connect to a Bluetooth device| • Make sure Bluetooth on the device is turned on.
• Move the Bluetooth device closer to the speaker.
• Reboot your Bluetooth device.
Speaker doesn’t stream audio using Apple AirPlay 2| • Reboot the router.
• Reboot your Apple device.
• Reboot the speaker.
• Move the speaker and the Apple AirPlay 2 device closer to the router.
