Charging your REEL Scooter

The charging port is located underneath the footplate. : Close the cover once the charger has been disconnected. Only use the REEL charger provided when charging the scooter.

Folding & Carrying.

Folding your REEL Scooter Safely
Make sure the electric scooter is turned off before attempting to fold. Holding the front pole, loosen the lock lever by twisting to your right. This will release the lever that is pointing upwards. Pull this lever down. The front pole can then be lowered, allowing the scooter to fold. Once folded, attach the clip (found near the bell on the handlebar) to the clamp on the rear wheel mudguard. To unfold the scooter, unhook the clip attached to the back wheel mudguard. Slowly elevate the front pole to a standing position and lock both levers in place

Getting Started

REEL always recommends the use of safety equipment such as a helmet, knee pads and gloves.

  1.  Turn on your REEL scooter and check the battery has sufficient charge.
  2.  To start, kick off with one foot on the floor.
  3.  To start, kick off with the foot on the floor. Once the scooter is moving, press down on the throttle to start the electric motor.
  4.  To slow down, release pressure off the accelerator. The energy recovery system will start, helping gradually slow the scooter down. To stop faster, apply gradual pressure to the brake lever.
  5.  To turn, lean your body slightly into the direction of the turn, whilst gradually moving the handlebars in the same direction. (e.g, for a left turn, lean the body slightly to the left while gradually turning the handlebars to the left).

Safety Instructions

  1.  It’s advised to avoid riding in the rain.
  2.  Whilst riding, you should slightly bend your knees to allow for better control when going over rough terrain. If you are travelling on a rough road you should stick to a low speed (5-10km/h).

  2.  While moving, keep both feet on the scooter.

Prevent Dangerous Riding

  1.  You must not ride your scooter on any high-speed roads or motorways.
  2.  You should avoid turning sharply where there is a large number of other vehicles and pedestrians

Maintenance and Storage

Cleaning & Storing your REEL scooter
Before cleaning the scooter, the charging port must be covered using the battery cap to avoid water entering the scooter and causing serious damage. If you find any marks or mud on the body of the scooter, use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the scooter down. If there is excess mud on the scooter, use a small brush to remove before wiping down with a damp cloth. After cleaning make sure to wipe down again with a dry cloth to remove moisture from the scooter.
Warning: Do not use alcohol, petrol, kerosene, chemical solvents or other corrosive solutions to clean the scooter. These chemicals and solutions will cause serious damage to the scooter body and the internal elements of the scooter if used. Do not wash the electric scooter using pressurized water. If the scooter is not being used it should be stored in a dry, cool place. If the scooter is left exposed to extremely high temperatures or low temperatures, this can cause rapid aging of the scooter body, wheels and battery life.

Maintenance of REEL scooter battery

  1.  Do not use batteries from other brands as this could cause damage to the internal electrical systems.
  2.  Do not open or disassemble the battery to prevent the danger of an electric shock.
  3.  You must only use the REEL charger provided with the scooter. If this is lost, contact us for a replacement. Using any other charger could cause irreversible damage and risk of fire.
  4.  Batteries must be disposed of properly to avoid highly hazardous materials entering the ecosystem, killing wildlife and polluting the water. For this reason, they should not be placed in a general waste bin.
  5.  After each use of the electric scooter, the scooter should be charged to prolong its life-span.
  6.  Do not store the electric scooter battery where temperatures exceed 30°C or 0°C (e.g. do not leave the battery in a car during the summertime).
  7.  Never leave the battery near a fire. Lithium-ion batteries are highly flammable.
  8.  If the battery is exposed to high temperatures, it will overheat and deteriorate, which could result in a fire.
  9.  If the electric scooter has not been charged for a prolonged time of up to 30 days, make sure to charge the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. The battery mustn’t be left uncharged for over 60 days, otherwise, the battery health is jeopardized and is likely to fail (not covered by our warranty services).
  10.  The electric scooter will generally perform better and ride for a greater distance in average outdoor and indoor temperatures; if the scooter is used in temperatures below 0°C its performance will decrease.
  11.  At -20°C the distance the electric scooter will be able to travel will decrease and be half or less than the distance of riding in average temperatures.
  12.  A fully charged electric scooter runs about 120-180 days of standby time. The battery has a smart chip that stores information about the charging history. If the battery is not being fully charged this can cause serious damage to the battery and could result in being unchargeable. This type of damage is not covered by our warranty service.

Safety Recommendations

  1.  Laws differ by jurisdiction or country on the riding of electric scooters. You must always follow the law of the region in which you intend to ride your REEL scooter. It may be illegal to ride your REEL scooter in public places, public highways, or on public land. Reference to these areas below does not mean you can ride your REEL scooter in those areas. Head to ridereel.co.uk/escooterlaw for more information around the law on riding electric scooters in the U.K.
  2. Before riding your REEL, you should understand and comply with all recommended safety precautions. It’s important to bear in mind the possibility of collision and injury due to riding in close proximity to pedestrians, cyclists, and motor vehicles. You should monitor your speed to avoid serious accidents; the higher the speed of the scooter the greater the braking distance. On smooth surfaces the braking may cause skidding of the scooter, resulting in loss of balance and even injury. Therefore, whilst riding your REEL you should be vigilant to adhere to an appropriate speed; keep your distance from pedestrians and/or with other vehicles.
  3.  While riding your REEL, respect the rights of pedestrians. Reduce speed when passing them and go to the opposite side of where they are walking to allow as much space as possible. Make use of the bell to make pedestrians aware of your presence where relevant.
  4.  There may be legal restrictions or prohibitions when using an electric scooter on public highways and footways, please abide by local laws and regulations when using this product.
  5.  You should not lend your REEL to others who do not know how to drive a scooter. Please spend time teaching a friend how to use the scooter before allowing them to ride it. You should also ensure the person riding has the correct safety gear on before riding.
  6.  You should inspect your REEL before each use; checking for damage, flat tyres, signs of excessive wear and abnormal sounds when powering up and/or riding. If you notice any of the above you should contact us immediately at info@ridereel.co.uk to instruct you further

Making Minor Adjustments

  • Adjusting the handlebars If the steering is not aligned, use the supplied allen key to tighten the two screws near the folding mechanism on the bar.
  • Adjusting the brake sensitivity If the brakes are too sensitive, use an allen key to loosen by rotating the screws anti-clockwise to relieve tension from the brake disc. If the brake requires more sensitivity, use the allen key to tighten the brakes by rotating the screws clockwise.
