SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Read these instructions carefully before assembly and use, and save them for future reference.
  • Two technically proficient adults are needed for the assembly.
  • The product must not be placed on a hard gravel surface, concrete, asphalt or other hard surfaces.
  • Follow the recommendations concerning shock-absorbing material and depth of fill.
  • Check and if necessary renew or replace the shock-absorbing material at regular intervals.
  • Check the anchorage at regular intervals.
  • The product must only be used for its intended purpose.
  • Check the ropes at regular intervals to make sure they are not worn.
  • Do not allow children to use the product without the supervision of an adult.
  • Give children explicit instructions how to play safely, and make sure that they follow them.
  • Do not allow children to swivel the swing seats so that the ropes become twisted -this subjects the ropes to extreme strain and reduces their life span.
  • Do not allow children to jump from the swings when in motion.
  • Do not allow children to set empty swings in motion.
  • Do not allow children to swing sideways or at an angle.
  • Do not allow children to hang upside down from the product.

  • Make sure that children are suitably dressed to play on swings – avoid loose-fitting clothes or bike helmets that can get fastened and put safety at risk.
  • Make sure there are no objects within two metres in front and behind the swings, measured from the front and back of the arc formed by the seat when in use.
  • The swings must only be used by one child at once.
  • Do not twist the ropes or run them over the suspension beam, this can weaken them.

  3. Thread the two metal rings on the swing in each hook.

  4. The distance between the suspension points should be calculated as in the example, A= 0.04 h + B
A: the distance between the hooks.
B: the distance between the seat and suspension points.
h: the distance between the surface and the hooks.

  1. For safe suspension in accordance with the standard EN 71-8 the swing should be mounted as per:

  3. Crossbar
  4. Hange
  5. Hange
  6. Link

NOTE:

  • The rope must have a diameter of at least mm.
  • The hooks for the suspension ropes should be crooked at least 540 degrees, to avoid the risk of a rope unhooking and releasing from the hook when in use. The material diameter of the hooks should be at least 10 mm.
  • The hooks should be perpendicular to the direction of swinging – a person standing in front of the swing should be able to see through the hooks. Otherwise, the hooks will be subjected to excessive wear.
  • If you are unsure how the swing should be assembled in a safe way, consult an expert.
  • Only use approved hanger parts that can withstand the weight and strain caused by the swing.

POSITIONING

  • Do not place the swing on a hard surface, such as concrete or asphalt.
  • The surface under the swing must as far as possible be soft and level. Follow the recommendations concerning shock-absorbing material and depth of fill.

IMPORTANT:

  • The minimum distance between the surface and the seats is 0.35 m, and the maximum distance is 55 cm.

  • The minimum permitted distance in the direction of swinging is 2 meters, measured from the front and back of the arc formed by the seat when in use.

  • The minimum distance between the seats and between the seats and any part of the swing is 0.30 m.

  • Expander plugs must be used if the hooks are mounted in a concrete roof and the roof must have a safe and supportable capacity. The diameter of the expander plugs must be at least 12 mm, with a length of at least 60 mm.

  • Wood screw hooks must not be used for suspension in wood. Use through hooks with a flat washer and nut, or a suspension that encircles the wooden stud, to ensure safe suspension.

  • The swing framework must be safely anchored to the ground with suitable ground screws or ground anchors, so that it cannot tip over or move.
The product should be placed on a flat surface with at least 1.8 m of free space on all sides. If the ground surface is not sufficiently solid to ensure safe anchoring the ground screws should be embedded in concrete. Make sure the ground screws do not stick up – risk of tripping over.

SHOCK-ABSORBING MATERIAL AND DEPTH OF FILL

Shock absorbing material Depth of fill, uncompressed material
Bark 23 cm
Wooden chips 30 cm
Shavings 30 cm

MAINTENANCE

The following checks and maintenance should be taken before using for the first time and thereafter twice every month during the playing season to ensure that the product is safe to use.

  • Lubricate the hooks and suspension. Check the hooks and rings for rust that can reduce the strength of the material. If in doubt, replace!
  • Check the seats and trapezes for cracks, fractures and other damage.
  • Check the suspension ropes for broken strands and wear as a result of the movement of the ropes and parts. To do this the ropes must be removed from the point where the wear or damage can be assumed to be. If in doubt, replace!
  • When used outdoors the ropes should be replaced after 18 months.
  • Wood is a natural material. Do not leave the product outdoors and do not expose it to precipitation or extreme weather, for example very high or very low temperatures.
  • Store the swing indoors during the winter, the cold can reduce its life span.
