PLETHORA X5 Controls

Step 1: Controls

  1. EFFECT encoder knob. In EDIT Mode, this knob can be used to scroll through the list of effects available in the product. Pressing the knob assigns the selected effect to the currently active footswitch. In PLAY Mode, this knob has no function.

  2. LCD DISPLAYS. In PLAY mode, the displays show which effects are currently loaded and active for each of the corresponding footswitches. In EDIT mode, the displays show the effect, TonePrint, and knob settings for the selected effect slot.

  3. PLAY/EDIT knob toggles between PLAY and EDIT modes.

  4. FOOTSWITCH buttons. In EDIT mode, pressing a footswitch selects that footswitch for editing. In PLAY mode, pressing a footswitch turns the effect on and off for each matching effect slot (1 thru 5). For some effects, the footswitch has additional functions, such as MASH expression control or a tap tempo input.

  5. INDICATOR LEDS show the effect on/off status.

  6. PARAMETER knobs. In EDIT mode, the PARAMETER knobs can be used to adjust specific effect parameters for the selected effect slot. In PLAY mode, each knob can be assigned to control any parameter for quick, on-the-fly adjustment.

  7. BOARD switch toggles between the virtual pedal boards that each contain customizable
    arrangements of up to 5 effects.

  8. TONEPRINT encoder knob. In EDIT mode, this knob can be used to scroll through the list of available TonePrints for the selected effect. Pressing the knob assigns the
    selected TonePrint to the currently active footswitch. In PLAY mode, the knob has no function.

  9. INPUT (MONO/STEREO) connections accept standard ¼” TS connectors. Stereo inputs use both connections, while mono inputs only use the ¼” MONO jack.

  10. OUTPUT (MONO/STEREO) connections send effected audio with standard ¼” TS connectors. Stereo outputs use both connections, while mono outputs only use the ¼” MONO jack.

  11. INSERT (SEND/RETURN) connections can be used to incorporate external effects pedals or rack units into the PLETHORA X5 internal signal chain by using unbalanced cables with ¼” TS connectors.

  12. EXP connection can be used to connect external expression pedals with a ¼” TRS connector.

  13. DC INPUT connects the included external power supply (9 V DC, >600 mA). Please use only TC Electronic external power supplies.

  14. USB input connects to a computer for connection to the TonePrint App, and for firmware updates.

  15. MIDI IN/THRU jacks allow you to control footswitches and board selection via external MIDI controllers

Tone Print
What are Tone Prints?
Tone Print technology gives you complete creative control. No longer is your creativity held back by a fixed set of built-in effects! With Tone Print, you become the effects designer. So if you need a swirling vintage flinger for your next rock gig, or a compressor and a chorus when you play with your funk band, you simply just load them into the unit..

Tone Prints are signature effects made by some of the world’s greatest guitar and bass players. On top of that, product specialists at TC Electronic have also contributed Tone Prints that will suit any music genre. A Tone Print is an effect that has been fine-tuned to give you the perfect balance between ease of use and an inspiring sound.

Tone Prints let you design your own custom effects to work perfectly with your exact rig. The Tone Print app’s editing feature, let’s you redesign each Tone Print pedal from the ground up. You can even assign the physical knobs to control parameters that are usually tucked away. Up to three parameters per knob, actually! Check out a YouTube video or two of artists creating their personal Tone Prints for inspiration on what you can actually do.

Transferring Tone Prints to your device

There are two ways of transferring Tone Prints to your PLETHORA X5.

  1. If you have a smartphone, download the free TonePrint app from the App Store or Google Play. Once downloaded and installed, this app allows you to choose from the complete TonePrint library.
    • To transfer a TonePrint to your device, connect your instrument to your PLETHORA X5 using a regular USB cable or Bluetooth, launch the app on your smartphone, find a TonePrint you want to try in the product list, and follow on-screen instructions.
  2. TonePrint App to your computer from TC’s website.
    • Connect your computer to your PLETHORA X5 using a USB cable.
    • To transfer a TonePrint to your device, launch the TonePrint App, find PLETHORA X5 in the product list and follow the on-screen instructions.

This way you can start auditioning TonePrints quickly and easily. Once you find a TonePrint that you like, simply press the “Store To Product” button and it will remain in memory, even when you switch the device off.

Bluetooth pairing with the TonePrint app

To pair PLETHORA X5 with a smartphone running the TonePrint app, follow these steps:

  1. Download the free TonePrint app from App Store or Google Play.
  2. On your PLETHORA X5 go to EDIT mode and find the settings menu at the bottom of the effects list. Then press the EFFECT knob to enter the settings menu.
  3. Under global settings select  “Bluetooth Pairing” to make thePLETHORA X5 discoverable to other Bluetooth devices.
  4. A Bluetooth indicator will start flashing when PLETHORA X5 is discoverable.
  5. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
  6. Start the TonePrint App and go to the settings menu.
  7. Select Bluetooth Midi Pairing and choose the PLETHORA X5 in the pop-up list.
  8. The Bluetooth indicator on the PLETHORA X5 will stop flashing.
  9. Congratulations, your device and app should now be paired!
