Step 2: Controls

Controls 01

  • GAIN knob adjusts the sensitivity of the MIC and/or LINE inputs.

  • EQ knobs adjust the high, mid and low frequencies of the channel. Adjust the FREQ knob on the PMP6000 to select the specific frequency adjusted by the MID knob.

  • FX 1 & 2 knobs adjust how much of the channel’s signal is sent to the respective multi-FX processors.

  • MON knobs adjust how much of the channel’s signal is sent to the MON SEND jacks and/or OUTPUT A when driving passive monitors.

  • PFL button (PMP4000/6000 only) sends the channel to the VU METERS for gain setting purposes.

  • MUTE button mutes the channel.

  • LEVEL fader adjusts the channel volume.

  • PAN knob positions the channel in the stereo field.

  • ON/OFF button turns the mixer on and off.

  • SURROUND knob adjusts the amount of stereo enhancement on the mix. Press the XPQ TO MAIN button to activate the effect.

  • GRAPHIC EQ adjusts specific frequencies in the sound spectrum.

  • POWER AMP switch selects the operating mode of the power amp. See hookup diagrams for details.

  • STANDBY button mutes all mic channels.

  • CD/TAPE adjusts the volume of the CD/TAPE IN signal in the main or monitor mix.

  • PHONES/CTRL ROOM knob adjusts the headphone volume.

  • MONO fader (PMP4000/6000 only) adjusts the output of the MONO OUT jack. Use the SUB FREQ knob on the PMP6000 to adjust the crossover frequency for use with a subwoofer.

  • MAIN fader(s) adjust the output of the main signal.

  • FX (SEND) fader(s) adjust the signal sent to the internal FX processor and the FX SEND jack(s).

  • PHANTOM switch sends 48 V to the XLR inputs for use with condenser microphones.
  • MULTI-FX PROCESSOR adds a selected sound effect to any channel whose FX knob is turned up. See Getting Started step 10 for details.
  • MON (SEND) fader(s) adjust the output of the MON SEND jacks and OUTPUT A when using MON 1/MONO mode.
  • SPEAKER PROCESSING switch allows the mixer to compensate for speakers with limited low end frequency response.
  • VU METERS display the main and monitor output signal levels.
  • MAIN 2 knob (PMP4000/6000) adjusts the output of the MAIN 2 jacks.
  • FX TO MON and FX TO MAIN knobs adjust the amount of signal from the internal multi-FX processor that is included in the main or monitor mix.
Step 3: Getting Started

  1. Make all the appropriate power, audio and speaker connections to the mixer. Leave the power on all devices off!

  2. Select the appropriate operating mode using the POWER AMP switch.

  3. Set the controls as shown above (EQ and PAN centered, graphic EQ sliders centered, all others down/off).

  4. With the MAIN and MONITOR faders all the way down, turn your mixer on.

  5. Slowly raise the MAIN fader up half way.

  6. Adjust the relative level of various microphones and instruments by raising each channel’s LEVEL fader.

  7. Adjust the left-right position of a channel in the stereo field if necessary by turning the channel’s PAN knob.

  8. Use the channel MON knobs to send the channel’s signal to monitor speaker(s).

  9. Adjust the overall output to the main speakers using the MAIN fader(s). Adjust the output to the monitor speakers using the MON fader(s). If the red LIM LEDs on the VU METERS light, lower the MAIN fader(s).

  10. The PMP series mixers have built-in effects processor(s). Follow these steps to add an effect to one or more channels:

    • Turn the FX 1 knob up half way on each channel that you would like to add an effect to.

    • Press the FX 1 IN button to engage the processor.

    • Raise the FX 1 fader up to 0.

    • Turn the FX TO MAIN knob up half way to start.
      If you would also like the effect to be heard in the monitor mix, turn the FX TO MON knobs up half way as well.

    • Scroll through the effects by turning the PROGRAM knob. Press the PROGRAM knob to select the effect.

    • Readjust each channel’s FX 1 knob to make sure the right amount of effect is added.

    • If the METER on the multi-FX display reaches the red CLIP LED, turn the FX 1 fader down.

    • For the PMP6000, repeat the process with the FX 2 knobs and FX 2 fader to add a second effect to various channels.

Phantom Power – Move the switch to +48 V when using condenser microphones.

FBQ FEEDBACK DETECTION

If feedback occurs, press the EQ IN and FBQ FEEDBACK DETECTION buttons. Press the MAIN MIX/MONITOR button to assign the graphic EQ to the mains or monitor speakers.
