Precautions and Recommendations

The following notes must be taken into account by all users, both for the user safety and for correct maintenance of the devices and all their components. These notes are divided into the following sections:

  • General Usage Notes
  • Cables
  • Battery
  • Third-Party Accessories
  • Third-Party Control Units
  • Control Unit Safety

3.1 General Usage Notes

  • PPEs must not be exchanged between multiple users as they are intended for personal use only.
  • If the PPE is damaged during use, for example, impact, heat, and/or exposure to corrosives, it must be replaced.
  • Do not use cleaning products on PPE which have not been approved by Univet S.r.l. Contact – Univet S.r.l, for information on the products that can be used to clean and disinfect  PPE.
  • PPEs must be kept in their original packaging, at a temperature between 5°C and 40°C, in a dry environment, free of organic vapors and abrasive powders.
  • To maintain the overall efficiency of the PPE it must not be exposed to direct heat or UV rays.
  • Keep these notes together with the PPE and the original packaging.
  • This item meets the requirements of the EU regulation 2016/425 and has been verified according to:
  • EN166 for the European market
  • ANSI Z87.1 + and FCC for the US market
  • The PPE identification code is shown on the box. The performance of this PPE is specified by conformity marks on both the product and its packaging.
  • Assemble the components and/or accessories following the user manuals supplied with each item.

3.2 Cables

  • Make sure that the connection cable between Control Unit and the glasses does not get hooked by anything in the surrounding area while wearing the device. Also, make sure that the glasses-control unit connection cable does not wrap around your neck as this could cause accidents or injuries to the user.
  • Verify the integrity of the glasses-control unit connection cable; do not use the cable if it is damaged as it could cause fire or electric shock.
  • Do not place heavy objects on top of the eyeglass-control unit connection cable.
  • Do not bend, twist or pull the glasses-control unit connection cable.
  • Keep the power cable away from hot electrical devices.
  • Verify that the cables are not placed in such a way as to be a risk to the user or to someone around them.
  • Make sure that the power and glasses-control unit connection cables are not at risk of being walked on.
  • Do not use the device while it is charging.

In the following situations, turn off the product immediately, disconnect the eyeglass-control unit connection cable and contact your local dealer or Univet S.r.l Service Center:

  • In case of smoke, obstructions, smells, or noises;
  • In the event that liquids or foreign objects enter the product;
  • In case the product has been dropped or damaged;

**Continuing to use the device in these conditions may result in fire or electric shock. Do not attempt to repair, open, or modify this product by yourself**

3.3 Battery

The following list details some battery-related tips and warnings:

  • Recharge the battery at least once every 6 months to avoid battery degradation.
  • If the rechargeable battery is not used for a long time, we recommended running the battery for a complete cycle (100% charged to completely flat) a few times to ensure battery efficiency.
  • If the battery performance decline significantly, the battery may have reached the end of its useful life and must be properly disposed and replaced.
  • Charge the battery in an environment with a temperature range between 10°C and 30°C. The battery efficiency may decrease if it is charged outside this temperature range.
  • Use only battery chargers approved by the manufacturer; using other chargers can: reduce the overall battery life, cause battery fires, explosions, or the device malfunction.
  • Do not place the battery on heating devices such as ovens, stoves, or radiators, or near devices that emit electromagnetic waves such as microwave ovens as the battery could explode.
  • Do not expose the batteries to very high or low temperatures.

3.4 Third-Party Accessories

Third-party accessories can be connected to the PPE to add additional functionalities, however, the following must be taken into consideration:

  • The accessory must be designed in such a way as not to affect the mechanical or electric components of the device.
  • The accessory must not impact the function of the glasses or the face area protected by the glasses.
  • Before attaching an accessory verify that, if it detaches from the unit during use, this presents no risk.

3.5 Third-Party Control Units

Third-party Control Units can be used with the device but they must:

  • Only if connected via the USB cable provided by Univet s.r.l.

  • Third-party Control Units must:
    • use the standard USB 2.0  hardware interface;
    • use a communication protocol that follows the frame buffer standard and the CDC defined and limited by Univet s.r.l.;
    •be certified and marketed CE;

  • In order to maintain its safety status, the device must not be affected or altered by the Control Unit.

3.6 Control Unit Safety

The Control Unit manages voluntary and involuntary disconnections from the glasses thanks to a pre-installed application. The application starts automatically on start-up.
The application works by:

  • tracking the last application in use;
  • stopping the application which should in turn save its state at the time of the disconnect;
  • restarting the application which should in turn restore its state to that of the time of disconnection.

If you manage critical data, we recommend backing up the data at regular intervals

Risks

Using augmented reality may distract you and cause dangerous situations (for example, this device must not be used while driving or riding a bicycle). By using this device you agree that you are responsible for observing the laws in place that prohibit or restrict the use of such devices.
In particular, you should consider the following areas of risk:

  • Electromagnetic Interference(see page 9)
  • Magnetic Connector(see page 9)
  • Radio Modules(see page 9)
  • Personal Safety(see page 10)
  • Health(see page 10)

    • Follow the rules set by medical institutions that prohibit the use of devices which emit electromagnetic waves or prohibit access to certain areas with such devices

4.2 Magnetic Connector

Neodymium magnets were used to connect the two parts of the CU- PPE cable.The magnets must be kept at least at the specified safety distances :

  • The minimum distance to a pacemaker is 62mm for a magnet with a pull of 6.2kg
  • The minimum distance to a hearing aid/s is  20mm for a magnet with a pull of 6.2kg

4.3 Radio Modules
The radio modules in the Control Unit can cause interference or temporary malfunctions in the acoustic instruments.

Please note that Univet Control Unit without an application has no use and does not run any radio component.

The user must be warned about the radio modules situation by the application which will be running on the control unit. Such application will be made and installed by the customer (that could be the application SW developer).
The same application must notify the user about performed action. An example of a notification could be as
