-
Pull out the kickstand (Figure 3).
-
Unfold the shelf (Figure 4). Unfolding Your Trailer, Steps 5-6

-
Release the upper frame hinge by rotating the twist grip in the direction of the arrow. Then unfold the tow bar (Figure 6).
Folding Your Trailer
Follow the steps on pages 3 and 4 in reverse order to fold the trailer.
1. To fold the shelf, first pull the release cable on the bottom and then
pull the shelf toward the frame (Figure 7).
2. To fold the kickstand, press the metal detent button at the top of the
kickstand, then fold it flat against the shelf (Figure 8). Note: The detent
button may be covered by the trailer skin.
3. Store the wheels inside the folded shelf with the axle side of the wheels
facing each other (Figure 8). Connecting Travoy to Your Bike
- Attach the hitch to your seat post using the two M6 bolts provided. Adjust the height to ensure the trailer does not contact the bike wheel or accessories (Figure 9).
Attach the trailer to the hitch by rotating the latch to the right (Figure 10)
and dropping the flex connector onto the hitch pin (Figure 11). The latch will
close automatically hen the flex connector is fully seated. To disconnect the
trailer, rotate the latch then lift the flex connector off the hitch pin. Hold
your bike upright to make it easier for the coupling to slide on and off the
pin.
Notes:
- Hitch is compatible with 25-32mm seat posts.
- Use of hitch with carbon fiber seat posts is not recommended.
If your legs rub on the sides of the hitch, lowering it can help.
Loading Your Trailer
There are many different ways to load your Travoy. Tie-down buttons are
provided in eight places on the outside of the frame.
These are intended to be used with swivel-lock buckles included on Travoy bags
and accessories (Figure 12). Cargo
straps and a basic tote bag are included with your trailer.
Various additional bags and accessories are available for
different styles and functions.
Follow these guidelines when loading your Travoy:
- Do not exceed a load of 60 lbs (27 kg).
- Do not exceed 20 lbs (9 kg) in the upper portion of the trailer (above the middle frame hinge).
- With the trailer loaded, the weight at the hitch coupling should be greater than 2 lbs (1 kg) but not exceed 8 lbs (3.6 kg).
- Secure your load such that nothing touches the wheels and no loose items can fall out. ****
Rules
- DO NOT carry passengers.
- DO NOT stand or sit on the trailer.
- Always comply with local vehicle traffic and lighting laws.
It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that the load is adequately secured for safe operation.
A safe maximum speed is dependent on the trailer load, road conditions, traffic, condition of the towing bicycle, and the experience of the rider. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that they maintain a safe speed for the trailer load, road conditions, and traffic. Riding over rough terrain at high speeds with a loaded trailer can cause damage to the hinges.
Before You Ride
Check before each use:
- Wheels are properly secured to the trailer.
- Tires are inflated to recommended pressure on the tire side-wall.
- The hitch is properly secured to the bicycle.
- Flex connector is properly secured to the hitch.
- The hitch latch is closed.
- Load does not exceed 20 lbs in an upper bag or 60 lbs for the whole trailer.
- Load is tightly secured to the trailer and all straps or cords are secured.
- The weight of the tow bar at the hitch is greater than 2 lbs (1 kg) but does not exceed 8 lbs (3.6 kg) with a trailer loaded.
- The bicycle is in proper working order.
Check monthly:
- Inspect tow bar, hitch, frame tubing, flex connector, and hardware for damage.
- Check that fasteners are secure.
- Inspect tires and wheels for wear and cracks.
Safety Guidelines
Refer to the bicycle manufacturer’s instructions to determine if the bicycle
is suitable for towing a trailer. It is recommended that a qualified bicycle
mechanic does a safety check of the towing bicycle before attaching the
trailer. Prior to each ride, be sure the trailer does not interfere with the
braking, pedaling, or steering of the bicycle. It is recommended that a
rearview mirror be used on the bike.
Always comply with local regulations when using the trailer on public
roadways. Never ride a bicycle at night without adequate lighting. Obey all
local legal requirements for
lighting. The red reflectors that come with the trailer must remain attached
and visible at all times.
If you need to come to a stop for any reason, be sure to pull off the road
completely.
A bicycle pulling a trailer is heavier and less responsive due to the
trailer’s weight. Avoid rocks, curbs, hard braking, sudden swerving and riding
over obstacles with one wheel.
Experiment with the loaded trailer in an uncongested area until you become
familiar with the way your bike handles while towing a trailer.
Use good judgment when deciding if weather, road, and/or traffic conditions
are safe to use a Burley.
Failure to comply with the instructions and safety guidelines in this manual
could result in serious injury or death.
