Function/Application
The Thermospot XP Is an infrared and contact temperature measuring device with memory function and a Bluetooth interface for transferring the measured data. Non-contact temperature measurement of surfaces is realised by measuring and evaluating the amount of electromagnetic energy in the infrared wavelength range. There is a connection for a temperature sensor (K-type) to facilitate contact tempe- rature measurement
General safety instructions
- The device must only be used in accordance with its intended purpose and within the scope or the specifications.
- The measuring tools and accessories are not toys. Keep out of reach of children.
- Modifications or changes to the device are not permitted, this will otherwise invalidate the approval and surety specifications.
- Do not expose the device to mechanical stres, extreme temperatures, moisture or significant vibration.
- The device must no longer be used if one or more of Its Functions tail or the battery charge is weak.
- not power the temperature sensor (-type) witn an external voltage.
- Please ensure compliance with the safety regulations set out by local and national authorities
- With regard to the correct and proper use of the device.
Safety instructions
Using class 2 lasers
- Attention: Do not look into the direct or reflected beam.
- Do not point the laser beam towards persons.
- If a person’s eyes are exposed to class 2 laser radiation, they should shut their eyes and immediately move away from the beam.
- Under no circumstances should optical instruments (magnifying glass, microscope binoculars)
- Do not use the laser at eye level (1.40…1.90 m)
- Tampering with (making changes to) the laser device is not permitted.

Safety instructions
Dealing with electromagnetic radiation
-
The measuring device complies with electromagnetic compatibility regulations and limits in accordance
With the EMC Directive 2014/5O/EU which is covered by the Radio equipment Directive 2014/53/EU. -
Local operating restrictions – for example, in hospitals, aircraft, petrol stations or in the vicinity of people with pacemakers- may apply. Electronic devices can potentially cause hazards or interference or be subject to hazaras or interference
-
The measuring accuracy may be affected when working close to high voltages or high electromagnetic alternating fields.
Information on maintenance and care
Clean all components with a damp cloth and do not use cleaning agents,
scouring agents and solvents.
Remove the batterylies) before storing for longer periods. Store the device in
a clean and dry place.
Calibration
The meter needs to be calibrated and tested on a regular basis to ensure it
produces accurate measurement results. We recommend carrying out calibration
once a year.

INSTRUCTIONS
-
Inserting batteries
Open the battery compartment and insert batteries according to the symbols. Be sure to pay attention to polarity. -
ON /OFF
The device can also be switched on with the MODE button (4). No measurement is triggered and the last measured values are displayed Auto switch-off after 30 seconds. -
Infrared temperature measurement/ continuous measurement/ Hold
Press button 9 for infrared temperature measurement.
For continuous measurement activate the laser (see figure) and keep the button pressed.
Release the button as soon as the target laser pinpoints the measurement location. The measured value is held. -
Mode selection
The device features various measuring mod -
Menu settings
Continuous measurement starts by briefly pressing the trigger button. A lock symbol appears on the display. The value is held (HOLD) by
long-pressing the button again. The battery charge must be at least 15% for continuous measurement.
Clear memory
Clearing the entire measured value memony
Factory setting
The FAC” function resets the device to the factory setting.
Infrared temperature: Setting the emissivity
An integrated sensor head detects the material/surface-specific infrared
radiation emitted by all objects. The level of these emissions is determined
by the specific emissivity of the material (0,01 to 1,00). After switching on
for the first time, the device is preset to an emissivity factor of 0.95,
which is suitable for most organic materials and non-metals (plastics,
ceramics, wood, rubber, paints, varnishes and stone). For materials with
different emissivity factors, refer to the table under Point 7. Wherever
possible, paint or matt black stickers can be applied on non-coated metals and
metal oxides, which due to their low, temperature-unstable emissivity are
suitable for IR measurement only for a limited extent, as well as on surfaces
with unknown emissivity in order to set the emissivity factor to 0.95. If this
is not possible, use a contact thermometer. The emissivity last selected is
set after the device is switched on. Check the emissivity setting before each
measurement
The device features a quick selection function for the stored emissivity
factors (0.95, 0.85, 0.75, 0.65, 0.55) and accurate setting between 0.01 1.00.
Quick emissivity factor selection
- 1x = 0,85 (E 2)
- 2x = 0,75 (E 3)
- 3x = 0,65 (E 4)
- 4x = 0,55 (E 5)
- 5x 0,95 (E 1)
Accurate emissivity factor setting
- Short press: Value +0,01
- Long press Value runs through 0,011,00
The storage locations E1 – E5 can be changed arbitrarily. By long-pressing on the storage location it can be adapted and the value remains stored. The factory reset resets the values to 0.95/0.8570.75/ 0.65 and 0.55.
Emission coefficient tables
Reference values with tolerances
Max/Min/AVG mode
Max/Min/AVG modes refer to the infrared temperature and show the maximum,
minimum or average infrared temperature. With the trigger (9)
pressed, the Max/Min/AVG values are determined while measuring. The value is
deleted and calculated again at the start of a new measurement or by pressing
the trigger (9).
Difference mode dIF
This mode refers to the infrared temperature and calculates the difference
between the maximum and minimum infrared temperature while measuring. The
value is deleted and calculated again at the start of a new measurement or by
pressing the trigger ( 9)
Contact temperature mode T-K (K-type)
The device automatically switches to contact temperature mode T-K as soon as a
temperature sensor (K-type) is connected. With a minimum battery charge of
15%, the device does not switch off automatically while the temperature sensor
remains connected.
Memory function
The device is has 50 storage locations.
Call up memory
Data transfer
The device features a Bluetooth function that enables wireless data transfer
to mobile devices with a Bluetooth interface (such as a smartphone or
tablet).
The system prerequisites for a Bluetooth connection are specified at
http://laserliner.com/info?an=ble
The device can set up a Bluetooth connection with Bluetooth 4.0 compatible
devices.
The range is set to a maximum distance of 10 m from the terminal device and
greatly depends on the ambient conditions such as the thickness and
composition of walls, sources of interference as well as the transmit/receive
properties of the terminal device. Once it has been activated, Bluetooth*
remains switched on indefinitely as the radio system is designed with
exceptionally low power consumption. A mobile device can link up to the active
measuring device via an app.
Application (app)
An app is required to use the Bluetooth* function.
You can download the app from the corresponding stores for the specific type
of terminal device
After starting the app and activating the Bluetooth* function, a connection
can be set up between a mobile device and the measuring device. If the app
detects several active measuring devices, select the matching device.
This measuring device can be connected automatically the next time it is
switched on.
