Tonearm Setup

Your Attention Please

  • A DG-1 supplied without a fitted cartridge would still have, Anti-skate, Azimuth and VTA set at the factory for a typical height and mass cartridge with a tracking force of between 1.8g – 2.3g.
  • Further adjustment of those settings may NOT be necessary. Simply fit your cartridge following the steps set out in Cartridge Fitting & Setup section.

Important Note: The Counterweight must be fitted and recommended tracking force for the cartridge set before lowering the stylus onto the platter or the record.

  • Unscrew the tonearm transit screw and place it in the parked position.

Vertere-DG-1-Dynamic-groove-record-player-fig-15

SAFETY TIP: Check the initial tracking force setting with the stylus guard in place and avoid accidental damage if the initial force is too high for the cartridge.

  • Use the stylus balance supplied to check the tracking force as shown. Adjust the position of the main counterweight until the force is within 0.25g of the recommended value.
  • Finally, use the front weight to fine adjust the tracking force to the recommended value.

Fitting A Cartridge

Vertere-DG-1-Dynamic-groove-record-player-fig-17

  • Use the supplied cartridge fitting washers to help spread the load and avoid compressing the tonearm beam/head-shell when tightening the fixing screws.

  • Always follow the cartridge manufacturer’s instruction for fitting the cartridge to the tonearm.

  • Do not tighten the fixing screws just yet.

  • Slide the cartridge body forward and back until the stylus tip is directly below the front edge of the tonearm as shown ( )

  • Keep the cartridge as square and parallel as possible to the front edge.

  • Now gently tighten the fixing screws but only until the cartridge body is reasonably secured to the tonearm head-shell. Do Not fully tighten yet.

IMPORTANT: The main counterweight must now be fitted and recommended tracking force for the cartridge set before proceeding any further. Refer to section: 6. Tonearm Setup.

With the counterweight fitted and the recommended tracking weight set, follow the steps below for final cartridge adjustments:

  • Final cartridge alignment & fixing
  • Vertical Tracking Angle adjustment (VTA)
  • Checking & verifying the cartridge azimuth

Final Cartridge Adjustments

Vertere-DG-1-Dynamic-groove-record-player-fig-19

  • When the stylus is positioned on either of the alignment points, the cartridge and the front edge of the headshell should align with the line as shown.
  • If required, move the cartridge to adjust until aligned.
  • Once aligned, fully tighten the cartridge fixing screws. Careful Not Over Tighten.

Your Attention Please: Anti-skate, Azimuth, and VTA are set at the factory for a typical height and mass cartridge with a tracking force of between 1.8g – 2.3g. Further adjustment of those settings may NOT be required.

  • Adjust the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) so that the cartridge body is parallel to the record surface.

  • If using a Technomat, make sure it is in place before placing the record on.

  • If VTA adjustment is required, use the supplied 2mm Allen Key and follow the instructions below.

  • Carefully hold and support the tonearm while gently loosening the tonearm pillar fixing screw to free the arm to be moved up or down to increase or reduce theVTA.

  • Move the arm up and down by small amounts, 1mm at a time, and recheck the VTA. When the VTA is correct tighten the pillar fixing screw.

  • After final cartridge alignment and VTA adjustment, re-check the tracking force to ensure it is set to the recommended value.

  • Adjust if required using the front adjustment weight.

  • Check & verify the cartridge Azimuth.

In case of any issues

  • DO NOT attempt to adjust or correct any part or component of the tonearm or the record player.

  • Please contact your authorized Vertere retailer, local distributor or Vertere directly for more assistance.

  • If necessary, you can adjust the Anti-skate Force using the adjustment dial on top of the tonearm.

  • Note the dial requires reasonable force to rotate.

  • Turn by half a dot position at a time to adjust.
