Record Player Preliminary Preparation
IMPORTANT
- Using the protective gloves supplied, carefully remove the MG-1 Record Player and SG Tonearm from the packaging and place on a suitable, rigid, level, equipment rack or table.
- Remove the Tempo Motor Drive and place it on another shelf on the rack or a suitable surface nearby – refer to Tempo User Manual.
- Do not connect the Motor Drive DC power supply to the mains just yet.
- Remove all other accessories and cables from the packaging.
- Leave the Platter in the packaging, under its protective foam disc until later. follow the instructions below.
Note: If at all in doubt, stop and contact your Vertere retailer, distributor or Vertere directly for advice.
Main Bearing / Platter Preparation
IMPORTANT
- Carefully peel off and remove the blue protective film(s) from the MG top plinth.
- Remove the main bearing plug.
- Clean main bearing housing using the supplied bud. Do this gently and carefully to avoid the bud detaching from the wooden stick.
- Charge the main bearing with 10-12 drops of Vertere supplied oil L-1G
- Remove the main bearing spindle from the top tray and clean it using the supplied lint-free tissue and gently fit it to the main bearing as shown. Do not attempt to push the spindle down into the bearing housing.
- Gently remove the platter from the bottom tray and carefully place on the bearing spindle – look through the spindle hole to line the spindle with the platter to avoid accidental damage to the underside of the platter.
Note: See and read below to avoid damage to the platter and the spindle while carrying out this procedure.
Now remove the platter from the packaging and through the spindle hole in the platter locate the top of the spindle and carefully place the platter onto the spindle block. Gently rotate the platter which will assist with the spindle slowly moving down and finally locating on the captive ball at the bottom of the bearing housing.
NOTE: This procedure could take a few minutes as the tight bearing tolerances slow down the ‘moving up’ of the oil around the spindle. You can gently re-rotate the platter during this process to further assist with the assembly slowly settling down.
Fitting the record player Drive Belt
- You can fit the drive belt once the platter and spindle are fully down.
- Remove the belt from the packaging and carefully place the belt around the platter belt groove and the motor pulley.
- Gently rotate the platter by hand to ensure the belt is seated correctly in the platter belt groove and around the motor pulley. See pie and further instructions below.
Connecting the Motor Drive
- Connect the Tempo Motor Drive to the record player using the supplied dedicated Tempo motor link cable and position it where the motor cable is not entangled or twisted.
- Refer to Tempo Motor Drive User Manual
- Check the motor link connectors at both ends are plugged in and screwed on fully.
- Plug the DC power supply to the wall mains socket.
- The record player’s internal mood/motor LED light (If turned On at the back) and the power LED indicator on the front of the motor drive should now illuminate.
Note: The drive belt should run approximately in the middle of the belt groove on the platter, preferably a little towards the bottom part, and about 1.0mm above the black O ring on the pulley. See the pie on the previous page.
Now place the Motor Cover, in its groove on the Top plinth. Take care not to damage or scratch the surface of the plinth.
Record Player Final Setup
- Using the MG-1 record player adjustable feet level the record player and check the level on the Platter with the spirit level provided. See Pie.
Note: The Super Groove tonearm should also be level with the platter.
Foot I Support Interface
- Your MG-1 record player is supplied with the specially designed foot for optimum interface to its supporting structure.
Special Felt Insert
- The MG-1 record player performs at its best on most supporting surfaces with the special felt inserts.
- Please contact your Vertere retailer or Vertere if you have any queries on this matter.
Tonearm & Cartridge Setup
- You can fit the phono cartridge now and setup the Super Groove tonearm by following the
- Tonearm and cartridge manufacturer’s User Manuals.
- It is important to set the tracking weight first before doing any further adjustments.
Some set-up tips for Super Groove Tonearm
- Always use the Vertere Alignment Protractor to set the tonearm up correctly.
- To check azimuth and VTA use the Vertere Azimuth I VTA
- Alignment Block or a suitable parallel-sided small block – for example, a square-sided spirit level. See Accessories on Vertere website.
- Place the Cartridge on the alignment protractor provided and using the Azimuth/VT A block, set the tonearm to the correct position.
- Place the Block as shown and view the cartridge/head-shell from the front. Adjust following the SG Tonearm Instructions until the azimuth is correct.
- Place the Block as shown and view the cartridge/head-shell from the side. Adjust following the SG Tonearm Instructions until the VT A is correct.
Having set the tracking force, VTA & azimuth, check that the Anti-skate Bar and Rod are in line and that the Anti-skate Thread is parallel with the main yoke as shown. Note the Bar can be adjusted by gently rotating and/or bending it as required to become inline with the Anti-skate Rod. See below.
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt this setup if you are in any doubt or you do not have the tonearm or the cartridge user manual. Contact your Vertere retailer, distributor or Vertere for assistance.
Tonearm Cable Dressing
The Redline Tonearm cable supplied would have been fitted to the SG Tonearm and the Platter Grounding wire would have also been fitted as shown opposite. It is important to ensure that the flexible section of the tonearm cable leading to the 5-Pin connector is plugged into the bottom of the tonearm. Also, ensure that the wires are gently curved and do not interfere with any part of the plinths. DO impress the connector in My and tightly. This is unnecessary and will make unplugging in the future difficult If you find yourself in this situation, do not try to pull the connector out by usir18 exce~ve force. Instead. use a medium size flat screwdriver to wedge between the connector body and the bottom of the tonearm pillar and gently lever it out.
The main section of the tonearm cable is then securely attached and damped by the P-clip and the fixing thumb nut as shown. This a ‘grounding’ point for the tonearm cable which stops any unwanted vibrations from getting to the pickup part of the tonearm.
If you have any queries or questions regarding this setup manual and the procedures outlined, please contact your authorized Vertere retailer, distributor, or Vertere directly.
