All appliance-specific data have been determined by the appliance manufacturer by means of Europe-wide standardized measuring methods under laboratory conditions. These are specified in EN62552. The actual energy consumption of the appliances during use is of course dependent upon the installation site and user behavior, and so may also be higher than the values determined by the appliance manufacturer under standard conditions. The expert is familiar with this context and carries out the tests with special measuring instruments according to the applicable standards.

Refrigerant

BEWARE

The appliance contains in the refrigerant circuit the refrigerant isobutane (R600a), a highly environmentally compatible natural gas that is inflammable. While transporting and installing the appliance ensure that no parts of the refrigerant circuit are damaged.

Procedure if the refrigerant circuit is damaged

  • avoid open fire and ignition sources at all costs
  • ensure that the room in which the appliance is located is well ventilated.

Installation

Positioning

The appliance should be located in a well-ventilated and dry room. The ambient temperature affects the power consumption and correct function of the appliance. Sufficient air circulation at the rear wall and the upper edge of the unit must be ensured. For optimum ventilation of the appliance, the minimum ventilation cross-sections must be observed. This means: placing the refrigerator at least 10 cm away from the wall, furthermore, there must be 10 cm space on the right and left and 30 cm above. Use the appliance on a firm and smooth surface.

IMPORTANT

  • The appliance must not be exposed to direct solar radiation.
  • The appliance must not stand on heating elements, next to a stove or other heat sources.
  • The appliance must be positioned so that the mains plug is accessible.
  • The appliance may only stand in a location where the ambienttemperature corresponds to the climate classification for which the appliance is designed.

Levelling

  • If the bearing surface is uneven the appliance can be balanced with the front feet.
  • Turn the foot (34) until the appliance stands firmly on the ground horizontally and without wobbling.

Start-up

Before starting up for the first time

  • After transportation, the appliance should be left to stand for at least 24 hours so that the refrigerant can collect in the compressor.
  • Non-observance of this may damage the compressor and so lead to the appliance malfunctioning. In such a case the warranty becomes invalid.
  • Clean the interior of the refrigerator and all of the accessories to be found here with commercially available, mild cleaning products.
Connecting the appliance to the mains supply

IMPORTANT

  • It is imperative that the appliance be earthed according to the directions. For this purpose, the plug of the connecting cable is provided with the appropriate contact.
  • Call a specialist electrician if the plug does not fit into the socket. Do not try to force the plug into the socket.
  • If you disconnect the appliance from the mains supply, or if a power cut occurs: wait for 5 minutes before you restart the appliance.

Operation

Switching the appliance on

  • In order to switch on the appliance push the mains plug into the socket.

Setting the temperature

  • The temperature can be set at from 0°C to 10°C. It is set by the knob.

Note: Please note that the temperature will change depending on the ambient temperature (installation site), the frequency of opening the door and the fittings.

IMPORTANT

High room temperatures (such as e.g. on hot summer days) and a cold temperature setting can lead to continuous refrigerator operation. The reason for this is that the compressor has to run continuously in order to maintain the low temperature in the appliance. The appliance is not able to defrost automatically because this is only possible when the compressor is not running (see the defrosting section). Therefore, a thick layer of frost or ice may form on the rear interior wall.

Noises during operation

Normal noises

  • Humming the noise is caused by the compressor during operation. It is loud when it switches on or off.
  • Liquid noise is caused by the refrigerant circulating in the unit.
  • Clicking noises the temperature regulator switches the compressor on or off.

The storage of food

Arrangement of storage shelves

WARNING: Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this appliance.

The shelves can withstand the maximum load

VIRC220/VIRC330: 16 kg / VIRC160/VIRC155: 12 kg / VIRC60/VIRC55: 8 Kg

  • The glass shelf in the lower part of the appliance above the vegetable tray should always remain in the same position to ensure correct air circulation.
  • The glass shelves are height-adjustable. Pull the glass storage shelves as far forward as possible until they can be swung up or down and removed.

Correct storage

For optimum use of the device, we recommend the following precautions: Use only impeccable food. The period between the purchase and placing of the food into the appliance should be kept as low as possible. Food should always be covered or packaged, in the cold room in order to avoid drying out and odor or taste transfer to other items to be chilled.

The following are suitable for packaging

  • Food containers and films suitable for foodstuffs
  • Special hoods made of plastic with elastic
  • Aluminum foil
  • Open the device only when required and close it as quickly as possible.

Storage of food and beverages in the cooler
The refrigerator is suitable for storing fresh food and beverages.

  • Store fresh, packaged goods on the shelves, and fresh fruits and vegetables in the vegetable tray.
  • Fruits and vegetables should be cleaned and kept in the vegetable compartment.
  • Bananas, potatoes, onions, and garlic should be kept well-packed in the appliance.
  • Storage of fresh meat (all types) should only be packaged well in the protective foil in the appliance and for a maximum of 1 to 2 days. Avoid contact with cooked foods.
  • Cover foodstuffs before storage (especially foods containing spices). Boiled foods and cold dishes, etc., must be well covered and stored in any position in the appliance.
  • Do not place warm food until after cooling into the cooler.
  • Place foods in the cooler so that air can circulate freely.
  • Place bottles in the bottle compartment in the interior door. Don‘t compartment could be detached from the door.

WARNING: Do not store explosive materials or aerosol cans with combustible propellants such as butane, propane, pentane, eg. in the cooler. Corresponding spray cans are recognizable by a flame symbol. Any gases that may escape can be ignited by electrical components. FIRE HAZARD!

Storage of food in the freezer compartment

The freezer compartment is suitable for the long-term storage of frozen goods and for the freezing of fresh, impeccable food.

  • Keep alcoholic drinks only tightly closed and standing. Please observe the instructions of the beverages manufacturer.
  • Don‘t freeze too large quantities at once. Foods have the best quality when fast-frozen to the core. The temperature during the freezing phase can be regulated by the temperature control in the cooling section.
  • Don‘t freeze any food that has ever been thawed.

WARNING

  • Do not store any carbonated or foaming beverages, beer, champagne, coke, etc. EXPLOSIVE!
  • Don‘t store plastic bottles in the freezer compartment.
  • Do not eat foods that are still frozen.
  • Don‘t give ice cream directly from the freezer compartment to children. Cold can cause injuries to the mouth.
  • Contact with frozen food, ice, and metal parts inside the freezer compartment can cause burn-like symptoms in very sensitive skin. FREEZER BURN HAZARD!

Storing frozen products and freezing fresh food

  • Units with compartments marked with the symbol are used to store frozen products for a maximum period of one month.
  • Appliances marked with the symbol are suitable for storing frozen products, but not for freezing fresh foodstuffs.
  • To store frozen products, make sure they were stored correctly and the cold chain hasn‘t been interrupted.
  • In case of a power failure, please leave the door closed, the frozen goods can exceed several hours.
  • Not suitable for freezing are whole eggs in a bowl, leaf salad, radish, sour cream and mayonnaise.

Defrosting / Switching off

During the cooling and defrosting phases a thin layer of ice or drops of water form on the inner wall. The condensation water flows into a collecting tray and evaporates. Please ensure that the outflow channel is not blocked. It can be cleaned carefully with a pipe cleaner. Your refrigerator does have automatic defrosting, but if a thicker layer of ice forms in-side the appliance – if you occasionally defrost it by hand – proceed as described under point 12.1. Optionally, in order to accelerate defrosting you can place a bowl with hot water in the appliance or use a hairdryer.

Maintenance

Cleaning and care

If the appliance is dirty, proceed as follows:

  1. Before beginning with repair or cleaning works make sure the device has been disconnected from the power socket (pull the power plug!!!) and has cooled down.
  2. Clean the interior (including the rear wall and bottom) with warm water and a mild cleaning product. Do not use any aggressive cleaning products!
  3. Dry all surfaces carefully.
  4. After cleaning reconnect the refrigerator to the mains supply.
  5. Never clean the appliance with steam cleaning equipment.
  6. Regularly clean the refrigerator and aslo check the condensation water outflow hole.
  7. If the light is damaged, it must be replaced with the same size, power, and shape one.
