Positive Air Shutdown System
- The Positive Air Shutdown system is designed to monitor the engine rpm. When the engine exceeds 3000 rpm the Valve Control Unit (VCU) turns off power to the air intake valve causing the engine to shut down.
- The Positive Air Shutdown system is also equipped with an Emergency Shutdown module. The module is equipped with an emergency shutdown button (Stop) and a fault status LED. It is also designed for system testing and to reset the VCU after a shutdown has occurred.
Pre operation Inspection
- Verify the operator’s manual, safety manual, responsibilities manual and any necessary supplements are complete, legible and in the storage container located in the platform.
- Verify all decals are legible and in place.
- Check the Positive Air Shutdown system for loose, damaged or missing parts.
- Hose clamps and other fasteners
- Wiring and harness connections
- Air intake components
- Module and VCU controller

Fault Status Indicator
An LED on the emergency shutdown module will indicate if a fault has occurred.
There are 5 LED status indicators:
Status | Description |
---|---|
LED is Off. | Air intake valve is open. System working properly. |
Red LED on solid. | Air intake valve closed. Engine turns off. Engine does not |
start.
Red LED blinks On and Off in 2 second intervals.| Air intake valve
disconnected from power source or open circuit.
Red LED blinks in intervals of 3.| Air intake valve is stuck. Check air intake
for debris or blockage.
Red LED blinks during engine start for 5 seconds.| No rpm tach signal
detected. Open circuit..
Override Mode
- The air intake valve is designed with a manual override function that allows the valve to be adjusted to the open position in case of loss of power.
- The override function should only be used in situations that require the machine be moved to a safe location when repairs to the Positive Air Shutdown system are required.
- Disconnect the harness from the air intake valve.
- Remove the rubber cap from the top of the valve and set aside.
- rubber cap
- adjustment screw
- air intake valve
- Turn the adjustment screw clockwise 15 -20 turns.
