Setting up

The TGM4 comprises a main unit with integral gooseneck microphone for the operator and a speakerphone for the client side of the window or partition.
The main unit should be free-standing on a surface close to the operator so that the gooseneck microphone can be positioned to easily pick up the speech of the operator. This unit is powered using the 9Vdc power adaptor provided.
With the power switch (5) in the “off” position, connect the plug-top adaptor to the 230Vac mains supply and the DC connector into the 9Vdc inlet on the rear panel of the TGM4 (6).
The client speakerphone should be positioned so that the client can hear the output of its miniature loudspeaker and the internal microphone can pick up the speech of the client. This may be flat on a counter-top or upright on the dividing window or partition. A keyhole on the rear of the speakerphone
allows it to be fixed with a screw if needed or double sided self-adhesive pads may be used.
The lead from the speakerphone is terminated with a 3.5mm plug and must be fed through the partition to the main unit and connected to the socket labelled “Speaker” (7)
If the intercom conversations are to be recorded or monitored, the TGM4 has another 3.5mm socket which provides a line level audio signal of both gooseneck and client microphones that can be connected to a recording device or other audio equipment. This socket is wired in stereo and the gooseneck microphone is fed to the right channel and the client speakerphone is fed to the left channel.

Operation

Turn both INSIDE and OUTSIDE volume controls (3, 4) fully down (anticlockwise) and switch the power on to the main unit (5) – the LED power indicator will light to show that power is on. Gradually turn the OUTSIDE volume control (4) clockwise and speak into the gooseneck microphone, checking for output from the client speakerphone until the volume is adequate for the surroundings. Do the same for the speakerphone by gradually turning the INSIDE volume control (3) clockwise and speaking close to the speakerphone until it can be clearly heard through the loudspeaker of the main unit.
During operation, it may be necessary to adjust these volume controls as the ambient noise changes.
Each Volume control has a corresponding LED to indicate the sound that its microphone can detect (3, 4). If the client cannot hear the operator, increase the OUTSIDE volume control (4). If the operator cannot hear the client, increase the INSIDE volume control (3). The TGM4 has a suppressor circuit to help avoid each unit from hearing its own speaker which could result in feedback. This circuit reduces the sound of one microphone as the other is being used, delivering the 2-way conversation in a controlled manner. The operator or client do not need to activate any switches and the process is completely hands-free. Only occasional volume adjustments may be needed
from the operator. It is helpful if the main unit and speakerphone units are not positioned toward each other or in very close proximity. If there is feedback (howling or squealing caused by a microphone hearing its own output through a speaker), one or both of the volume controls may need to be turned down to mitigate this effect.
When not in use, turn down the volume controls and switch off the power. If not being used for long periods, unplug the 9Vdc adaptor from the mains supply.
