To reduce the risk of injury or damage to the unit:

  • Use only the grounded outlet that matches the nameplate voltage rating of each kitchen appliance.
  • The unit must be installed by qualified personnel in accordance with applicable codes and ordinances.
  • Use the unit in a flat and level position.
  • Do not use extension cords for electrical appliances.
  • Before cleaning or maintenance, turn off the unit and disconnect the power supply.
  • Electrical appliances used with the unit must comply with restrictions and clearance requirements.
  • Only use electrical appliances approved by the Competent Authority (AHJ). AHJ approvals are required for all appliances and configurations.
  • Do not block vents, fire draft or discharge nozzles.
  • Do not spray or pour liquids on any part of the unit. Use only damp cloths for cleaning.
  • Always pay attention to the unit when in operation.

NOTE : The unit is not designed for use with gas appliances.

FUNCTION AND PURPOSE

This unit is designed to remove grease laden air when cooking in commercial food service environments. Personal, domestic, industrial and laboratory use is not recommended.

NOTE : This product is recognized by UL. UL recognized components are incomplete in certain construction characteristics and require professional installation and subsequent evaluation according to relevant standards. Additional components and manufacturer preparation are required for compliance with UL, NFPA, AHJ and applicable code. Electrical kitchen appliances used with this unit must be certified in accordance with applicable UL and NFPA standards by a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRT).

INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM

**| WARNING| NOTE: The fire suppression system must be charged by an authorized ANSUL® representative before it will operate.**

NOTE: The installer and owner assume full responsibility for installation of the unit and electrical appliances and compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.

Fire, Injury, Death Danger This unit must be installed and adjusted by a qualified technician in accordance with all federal, state and local codes. Failure to properly install, adjust, or maintain this unit could result in property damage, injury, or death.
The following information is for the exclusive use of authorized ANSUL representatives. Consult the ANSUL documentation for next steps. ANSUL representative to supply:

• Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) or nitrogen cartridge (N)

• ANSULEX Low pH Liquid Fire Suppressant

1. Replace the three temporary test links with the supplied 165°F SL fuse links.
2. Install the carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) or nitrogen (N) cartridges into the ANSUL Automan regulated release assembly.

OPERATION OF THE FLEXVENT™ UNIT

Overview
The FlexVent unit will only operate when the ANSUL® Fire Suppression System is charged and the grease filters and particulate filters are properly installed.

NOTE: If the Vollrath logo is not illuminated, there is no power to the FlexVent unit.

Remove Filters

1.| Turn off kitchen electrical appliances.|
2.| contact    to turn off the unit.
3.| Lift the grease filters up, pull the bottom forward, then down and out.
4.| Lift the drip tray up to remove it.
5.| Lift the particulate filters up to remove them.
6.| Replace filters in reverse order.
NOTE: Make sure the particulate filters are oriented correctly according to the label.

Cleaning

Clean your FlexVent™ unit daily.|

| WARNING
Fire Danger Do not allow grease to accumulate on any surface of the appliance or in areas in and around the cooking area.

Accumulated grease could cause a fire hazard.

| WARNING
Electricity Shock Danger Prevent water and other liquids from entering the unit. Liquid in the unit could cause an electric shock. Do not spray water or cleaning products. The liquid could come into contact with electrical components and cause a short circuit or electric shock.
| CAUTION
Burn Danger Do not touch hot liquids or hot surfaces while the unit is heating or operating.

Hot liquids and foods can burn the skin. Induction heating surfaces heat up very quickly. Allow the heating surface to cool before handling it.

NOTE: Do not use abrasive materials, scouring pads, or scouring pads to clean the unit. These can damage the finish.
Clean exterior of unit. __

Wash the grease filters, grease pan, and vent hood.

NOTE: If the grease pan is not installed, grease and moisture from the grease filters will fall into the vent, creating both a safety hazard and a health hazard.

1. Touch to turn off the unit. Unplug kitchen electrical appliances; let cool.
2. Clean kitchen electrical appliances according to their respective instructions.

NOTE: Carefully remove electrical cooking appliances from the unit if necessary to clean the surroundings or appliances.

3. Lift the vent hood and grease filters to remove them.
4. Empty the grease pan into an approved collection receptacle.
5. Wash the grease filters, vent hood, and grease pan with a mild detergent and warm water. Rinse and dry the grease filters with a clean, soft, nonabrasive cloth.

NOTE: Grease filters are washable and dishwasher safe; Particulate filters should be replaced with new filters when they become very dirty/clogged, after a fire, or approximately every six months.

6. Use a damp cloth and mild soap to clean the exterior surfaces of the unit, including the kitchen appliance space.
7. Thoroughly wipe off soapy water-dry cloth and dry surfaces with a clean, non-abrasive cloth. Debris could corrode the surface.
8. Install the grease filters, grease pan, and vent hood.
NOTE: Visually inspect all four discharge nozzles. Verify the Nozzle Caps are in position. Contact your local ANSUL ® authorized representative if caps are missing and/or nozzles need to be repositioned.   ****

OPERATION OF THE FLEXVENT™ FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM

NOTE  : The fire protection system used with this appliance is an ANSUL® R-102 RESTAURANT FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM

Role of homeowners in fire protection

  • Keep all kitchen units free of grease buildup.
  • Never use or store flammable solvents or cleaners on or near the unit.
  • Keep utensils, pots, pans or cooking materials, etc. stored in areas that do not obstruct the discharge of the fire suppression system.
  • Never tamper with system components (i.e., detectors, nozzles, agent storage container(s), or release mechanism).
      • DO NOT remove or reposition nozzles. All nozzles have been installed and aligned at the factory in the proper operating position. Make sure all nozzles have caps mounted. Contact your local authorized ANSUL representative if the caps are missing or the nozzles need to be repositioned.

Manual Activation
The ANSUL fire suppression system can also be activated manually.

  1. Pull the red manual station ring with enough force to activate the ANsUL fire suppression system.
  2. When the ANSUL Fire Suppression System is manually activated, power will be turned off to the kitchen electrical appliances and the entire FlexVent unit.

Controls and Operation
In the unlikely event of a fire:

  • ANSUL’s integrated fire suppression system will deploy automatically.
  • Power will be turned off to the kitchen electrical appliances and the entire FlexVent unit.

AFTER DISCHARGE OF THE FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM

WARNING
Electric Shock Hazard Prevent water and other liquids from entering the unit. Liquid in the unit could cause an electric shock. Do not spray water or cleaning products. The liquid could come into contact with electrical components and cause a short circuit or electric shock.

CAUTION
Burn Hazard Make sure all surfaces to be cleaned have cooled to room temperature. Do not use water to clean electrical appliances that contain hot grease or cooking oils. Doing so may cause violent steam formation and/or splashing.

After discharge, the FlexVent™ unit will not operate until the ANSUL® Fire Suppression System is serviced by an authorized ANSUL representative.

  1. After flushing, clean the FlexVent unit and surrounding area within 24 hours. Fire suppression chemicals can damage surfaces.

  2. Wear rubber gloves during cleaning, as sensitive skin may become irritated. If ANSULEX agent or its residue comes into contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water.

  3. Remove as much of the agent as possible with hot soapy water and clean sponges or rags. Dispose of sponges or rags according to local regulations.

  4. After thoroughly cleaning all affected surfaces, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Dry with a soft cloth.
    NOTE  : The Fire Suppression System agent is non-toxic. However, food products and cooking fat/oil that have come into contact with the agent will no longer be suitable for human consumption and should be discarded.

  5. After cleaning, call your authorized ANSUL representative to inspect, recharge and return the ANSUL fire suppression system to service.

NOTE  : The ANSUL Fire Suppression System must be serviced by an authorized ANSUL representative in accordance with ANSUL documentation and in accordance with local code requirements and NFPA standards.

MAINTENANCE

System maintenance must be performed semi-annually by an authorized ANSUL dealer.

NOTE  : All maintenance on the ANSUL fire suppression system must be performed by an authorized ANSUL representative, in accordance with ANSUL documentation and in accordance with local code requirements and NFPA standards. Contact your local ANSUL representative for maintenance details.

Repairable parts are available at Vollrath.com . To avoid serious injury or damage, never attempt to repair the unit or replace a damaged power cord yourself. Please do not ship units directly to The Vollrath Company LLC. Contact Vollrath Technical Service for instructions. When contacting Vollrath technical support, please have ready the item number, model number (if applicable), serial number, and proof of purchase showing the date the unit was purchased.
