IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:
WARNING!
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS BLOWER. To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury.

  • Know your power blower. Read operator’s manual carefully. Learn its applications and limitations, as well as the specific potential hazards related to this blower. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Do not permit children to use blower. It is not a toy. Close attention is necessary when used near children.

  • Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model described in this manual. Accessories that may be suitable for one blower may create a risk of injury when used on another blower. Use only as described in this manual.

  • Do not handle charger, including charger plug, and charger terminals with wet hands.

  • Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.

  • Do not charge the unit outdoors.

  • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.

  • Turn off all controls before removing battery.

  • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs or steps.

  • Do not operate blowers in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Blowers create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

  • Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite accidents.

  • Keep bystanders, children, and visitors at least 50 ft. away while operating a blower. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

  • A battery operated blower with integral batteries or a separate battery pack must be recharged only with the specified charger for the battery. A charger that may be suitable for one type of battery may create a risk of fire when used with another battery.

  • Use battery operated blower only with specifically designated battery pack. Use of any other batteries may create a risk of fire.

  • Use this product only with batteries and chargers listed in tool/appliance/battery pack/charger correlation supplement 988000-842.

  • Do not operate charger with a damaged cord or plug, which could cause shorting and electric shock. If damaged, have the charger replaced by an authorized service center.

  • If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service center.

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power blower. Do not use blower while tired, upset, or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating blowers may result in serious personal injury.

  • Secure long hair above shoulder level to prevent entanglement in moving parts.

  • Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is in the locked or off position before inserting battery pack. Carrying blowers with your finger on the switch or inserting the battery pack into a blower with the switch on invites accidents.

  • Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.

  • Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be drawn into air vents.

  • Do not use on a ladder, rooftop, tree, or other unstable support. Stable footing on a solid surface enables better control of the blower in unexpected situations.

  • Do not use blower if switch does not turn it on or off. A blower that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

  • Disconnect battery pack from blower or place the switch in the locked or off position before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the blower. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the blower accidentally.

  • When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like: paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks, burns, or a fire.

  • Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the blower’s operation. If damaged, have the blower serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained blowers.

  • Keep the blower and its handle dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Always use a clean cloth when cleaning. Never use brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, or any strong solvents to clean your blower.
Following this rule will reduce the risk of loss of control and deterioration of the enclosure plastic.

  • Always wear safety glasses with side shields. Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses. They are NOT safety glasses. Following this rule will reduce the risk of eye injury.

  • Always wear eye protection with side shields marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1 along with hearing protection when operating this equipment.

  • Protect your lungs. Wear a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty. Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury.

  • Protect your hearing. Wear hearing protection during extended periods of operation. Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury.

  • Battery blowers do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in operating condition. Be aware of possible hazards when not using your battery powered blower or when changing accessories. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury.

  • Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

  • Do not use a battery pack or appliance that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.

  • Do not expose a battery pack or appliance to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 265°F may cause explosion.

  • Do not modify or attempt to repair the appliance or the battery pack except as indicated in the instructions for use and care.

  • Do not place battery powered blowers or their batteries near fire or heat. This will reduce the risk of explosion and possibly injury.

  • Don’t expose blowers to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a blower will increase the risk of electric shock.

  • Wear heavy long pants, long sleeves, boots, and gloves. Avoid loose garments or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts of the machine or its motor.

  • Do not operate the equipment while barefoot or when wearing sandals or similar lightweight footwear. Wear protective footwear that will protect your feet and improve your footing on slippery surfaces.

  • Keep firm footing and balance. Do not overreach. Overreaching can result in loss of balance.

  • Check the work area before each use. Remove all objects such as rocks, broken glass, nails, wire, or string which can be thrown or become entangled in the machine.

  • Do not point the blower nozzle in the direction of people or pets.

  • Never run the unit without the proper equipment attached. Always ensure the blower tubes are installed.

  • When not in use, blower should be stored indoors in a dry, locked up place—out of the reach of children.

  • Do not hang unit so that the switch trigger is depressed.

  • Keep all bystanders, children, and pets at least 50 ft. away.

  • Do not dispose of a severely damaged or worn out battery pack or this blower by incinerating. The battery can explode in fire.

  • Stop the motor, wait until all moving parts come to a complete stop, and disconnect from the power supply before cleaning or performing any maintenance.

  • Never use water or any liquids to clean or rinse off your product and do not expose the product to rain or wet conditions. Store indoors in a dry area. Corrosive liquids, water, and chemicals can enter the product’s electronic components and cause damage, which can result in a short circuit, increased risk of fire, and serious personal injury. Remove any buildup of dirt and debris by wiping the product clean with a dry cloth occasionally.

  • Blower service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel may result in a risk of injury.

  • When servicing a blower, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of shock or injury.

  • Never use blower near fires, fireplaces, hot ashes, bar becue pits, etc. Use near fires or ashes can spread fires and result in serious injury and/or property damage.

  • Never use blower to spread chemicals, fertilizers, or any other toxic substances. Spreading these substances could result in serious injury to the operator or bystanders.

  • Never place blower on any surface, except a hard, clean surface when motor is running. Gravel, sand, and other debris can be picked up by the air inlet and thrown at the operator or bystanders, causing possible serious injuries.

  • For household use only.

  • Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct others who may use this tool. If you loan someone this tool, loan them these instructions also.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING:
READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
Failure to follow all instructions listed below and on the machine may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious personal injury.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS

  • This cutting machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and throwing objects. Failure to observe all safety instructions could result in serious injury or death.

  • Avoid dangerous environment – Do not use the lawn mower in damp or wet conditions or operate in the rain.

  • Keep children away – Keep all bystanders, children, and pets at least 100 ft. away. Stop machine if anyone enters the area.

  • Tragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to the presence of children. Children are often attracted to the machine and the mowing activity. Never assume that children will remain where you last saw them.
    • Keep children out of the mowing area and under the watchful care of a responsible adult other than the operator.
    • Be alert and turn mower off if a child enters the area.
    • Never allow children to operate the machine.
    • Use extra care when approaching blind corners, shrubs, trees, or other objects that may block your view of a child.

  • Dress properly – Wear heavy, long pants, long sleeves, gloves, and protective footwear that will protect your feet and improve your footing on slippery surfaces. Do not wear loose fitting clothing, short pants, sandals, or go barefoot. Do not wear jewelry of any kind. They can be caught in moving parts.

  • Don’t overreach – Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Overreaching can result in loss of balance.

  • Do not leave the mower unattended while running or with the start key installed.

  • Keep hands and feet away from cutting area. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times.

  • Operate the lawn mower only in daylight or good artificial light.

  • Use safety glasses – Always wear eye protection with side shields marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1. Use face mask if operation is dusty.

  • Use the right appliance – Do not use the lawn mower for any job except that for which it is intended.

  • Do not force the lawn mower – It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

  • Do not charge batteries in rain, or in wet locations.

  • Stay alert – Watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the lawn mower. Do not operate the mower while tired, upset, or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating the lawn mower may result in serious personal injury.

  • Maintain lawn mower with care – Keep machine in good working condition. Keep blades sharp and guards in place and in working order. Replace damaged or unevenly worn blades before using mower for best performance.

  • Check all nuts, bolts, and screws at frequent intervals for proper tightness to be sure the equipment is in safe working condition. Mower blades are sharp. Wrap the blade or wear gloves, and use extra caution when servicing them.

  • Do not dispose of the battery in a fire. The cell may explode. Check with local codes for possible special disposal instructions.

  • Stop the motor, wait until the blade comes to a complete stop, and remove the start key and battery pack before performing any maintenance, cleaning the lawn mower, removing the grass catcher, or removing the mulching plug.

  • Never use a hose, water, or any liquids to clean or rinse off the lawn mower. Corrosive liquids, water, fertilizers, and chemicals used to treat lawns can enter the lawn mower and/or battery compartment and damage electronic components and/or the battery pack, which can result in a short circuit, increased risk of fire, and serious personal injury. Remove any buildup of grass and leaves on or around the mower housing and/or underneath the mower deck. Wipe the mower clean with a dry cloth occasionally.

  • Replace blade if it is bent or cracked. An unbalanced blade causes vibration that could damage the motor drive unit or cause personal injury. Sharpen a dull blade equally at each end to maintain the balance. Mount a nail that is perfectly horizontal and level, allowing enough room above and below the nail for the blade to rotate freely without striking any surface. Clean the blade thoroughly and check its balance by supporting it horizontally on the nail through its center hole. If either end of the blade rotates downward, remove some metal by sharpening it more on the heavier side until the blade is balanced. It is balanced when neither end drops.

  • Always use safety protective devices. Do not operate the mower without the entire grass catcher or mulching plug and rear discharge door in place and working properly.

  • Do not open or mutilate the battery. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin. It may be toxic if swallowed.

  • Follow manufacturer’s instructions for proper operation and installation of accessories. Only use accessories approved by the manufacturer.

  • Exercise care in handling batteries in order not to short the battery with conducting materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery or conductor may overheat and cause burns.

  • Clear the work area before each use. Remove all objects such as rocks, tree nuts, sticks, metal, wire, bones, toys, or other objects which can be thrown by the blade. Stay behind the handle when the motor is running.

  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to battery pack, picking up or carrying the appliance. Carrying the appliance with your finger on the switch or energizing appliance that have the switch on invites accidents.

  • When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

  • Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or appliance outside of the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside of the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

  • Do not modify or attempt to repair the appliance or the battery pack (as applicable) except as indicated in the instructions for use and care.

  • Avoid holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, property stakes, or other hidden objects. Uneven terrain could cause a slip and fall accident.

  • Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments.

  • Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes.

  • Plan your mowing pattern to avoid discharge of material toward roads, sidewalks, bystanders and the like. Also, avoid discharging material against a wall or obstruction, which may cause the material to ricochet back toward the operator.

  • Do not mow on wet grass or excessively steep slopes. Poor footing could cause a slip and fall accident. Walk, never run.

  • Use extra care when approaching blind corners, shrubs, trees, or other objects that may block your view.

  • Do not pull the mower backward unless absolutely necessary. If you must back the mower away from a wall or obstruction, first look down and behind to avoid tripping or pulling the mower over your feet.

  • Never direct discharged material toward anyone. Avoid discharging material against a wall or obstruction. Material may ricochet back toward the operator. Stop the blade when crossing gravel surfaces.

  • Objects struck by the lawn mower blade can cause severe injuries to persons. The lawn should always be carefully examined and cleared of all objects prior to each mowing.

  • If the lawn mower strikes a foreign object, follow these steps:
    • Stop the lawn mower by releasing the blade control lever, wait until the blade comes to a complete stop, and then remove start key.
    • Thoroughly inspect the mower for any damage.
    • Replace the blade if it is damaged in any way. Repair any damage before restarting and continuing to operate the mower.

  • Stop the motor, wait until the blade comes to a complete stop, and remove start key before unclogging the chute. The cutting blade continues to rotate for a few seconds after the motor is shut off. Never place any part of the body in the blade area until you are sure the blade has stopped rotating.

  • If the mower should start to vibrate abnormally, stop the motor, remove the start key, and check immediately for the cause. Replace the blade if it is unevenly worn or damaged in any way. Vibration is generally a warning of trouble.

  • Service on the product must be performed by qualified repair personnel only. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in injury to the user or damage to the product.

  • The grass catcher assembly is subject to deterioration and wear and should be checked each time the mower is used. If replacement is needed, make sure the new grass catcher meets original manufacturer’s recommendations and specifications.

  • Use only authorized replacement parts when servicing the product. Use identical replacement blades only. Use of unauthorized parts may create a risk of serious injury to the user, or damage to the product.

  • Maintain or replace safety instructions labels, as necessary.

MOWING TIPS
WARNING:
Do not mow on wet grass, which can cause you to slip and fall and result in possible serious personal injury.
NOTE: Fully charge battery before each use for optimal runtime.

  • Make sure the lawn is clear of stones, tree nuts, sticks, wires, and other objects that could damage the lawn mower blades or motor. Do not mow over property stakes or other metal posts. Such objects could damage the blades or be accidentally thrown by the mower in any direction and cause serious personal injury to the operator and others.
  • For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the total length of the grass.
  • When cutting heavy grass, reduce walking speed to allow for more effective cutting and a proper discharge of the clippings.
  • Do not cut wet grass. It will stick to the underside of the deck and prevent proper bagging or mulching of grass clippings.
  • New or thick grass may require a narrower cut or a higher cutting height.
  • Clean the underside of the mower deck after each use to remove grass clippings, leaves, dirt, and any other accumulated debris.
NOTE: Always stop mower, allow blades to completely stop, remove the start key and remove the battery packs from the battery port before cleaning underneath the mower.

SLOPE OPERATION
See Figure 14.
WARNING:
Slopes are a major factor related to slip and fall accidents that can result in severe injury. Operation on slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, do not attempt to mow slopes greater than 15 degrees and mow across the face of slopes, not up and down.

  • Mow across the face of slopes, not up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes.
  • Watch for holes, ruts, rocks, hidden objects, or bumps which can cause you to slip or trip. Tall grass can hide obstacles. Remove all objects such as rocks, tree limbs, etc., which could be tripped over or thrown by the blades.
  • Always be sure of your footing. A slip and fall can cause serious personal injury. If you feel you are losing your balance, release the upper blade control lever immediately.
  • Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments; you could lose your footing or balance.
