Safety instructions

Intended use
This product is intended as a playing aid for acoustic guitars and basses with steel strings and a sound hole. Any other use or use under other operating conditions is considered to be improper and may result in personal injury or property damage. No liability will be assumed for damage resulting from improper use. This device may be used only by persons with sufficient physical, sensory, and intellectual abilities and the necessary knowledge and experience. Other persons may use this device only if they are supervised or instructed by a person who is responsible for their safety.

Risk of injury and choking hazard for children!
Children can suffocate on packaging material and small parts. Children can injure themselves when handling the product. Never allow children to play with the packaging material and the product. Always store packaging material out of the reach of babies and small children. Always dispose of packaging material properly when it is not in use. Never allow children to use the product without supervision. Keep small parts away from children and make sure that the product does not shed any small parts that children could play with.

Skin irritation and allergic reactions due to bow rosin!
Bow rosin can cause irritations if it comes into contact with the skin. Bow rosin dust caused by friction can irritate the mucous membranes in the nose if inhaled. Always use a cloth or holder to pick up the bow rosin. Avoid skin contact. Do not inhale bow rosin dust. If you are allergic to spruce resin, use a different bow rosin if possible.

Operating location

Never use this product

  • In direct sunlight
  • In conditions of extreme temperature or humidity
  • In extremely dusty or dirty places
  • In locations where the product could get wet

General handling

  • To prevent damage, never exert force when using the product.
  • Never immerse the product in water. Wipe only with a clean and dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners such as benzene, thinners, or flammable cleaning agents

Functional elements

  1. Double-sided bow hair from ponytails for generating sound. Move the bow hair over the guitar strings while exerting gentle pressure to generate a note.
  2. Aluminum rod as holder and guide for the bow hair. The bow hair is guided over the aluminum rod on both sides through the lower eyelet.
  3. Moving the slider for releasing and locking the bow hair. Push the moving slider down and up to fix and release the bow hair on the aluminum rod.
  4. Plastic handle for holding and guiding the bow. Hold the bow by its plastic handle and guide it vertically down along the guitar strings you want to play, and into the sound hole of the guitar.
  5. Guitar pick. Remove the guitar pick if you want to switch from the bow to the pick while playing.
  6. Adjusting screw. Turn the adjusting screw to tension or relax the bow hair. A specific basic tension is necessary to generate a note.Harley-Benton-96138-Guitar-Bow-FIG-1

Using the bow

  1. Make sure that the bow is sufficiently tensioned. Turn the adjusting screw (4) clockwise to increase the bow tension and anti-clockwise to relax it.
  2. Roughen the bow rosin (2) slightly with the sandpaper if necessary.
  3. Rub the bow rosin (2) over the bow hair (1) on both sides along its entire length several times under gentle pressure to make the bow capable of playing.
  4. Guide the bow vertically downwards past the required guitar string and into the sound hole of the guitar (5).
  5. Move the bow hair up and down over the guitar string while exerting gentle pressure to generate a note.
  6. Remove the guitar pick (3) from the plastic handle if you want to switch from the bow to the pick.

After use

  1. Remove bow rosin residues from both sides of the bow hair (1) along the entire length with the supplied microfibre cloth.
  2. Stow the bow and microfibre cloth in the supplied storage bag.Harley-Benton-96138-Guitar-Bow-FIG-2

Replacing the bow hair

The bow hair gets worn over time and needs to be replaced regularly to generate clean notes.

  1. Fully release the adjusting screw (5) by turning it anti-clockwise.
  2. Pull the aluminum rod (2) and the bow hair down out of the plastic handle.
  3. Release the bow hair (1) from the aluminum rod (2) by moving the moving slider (3) and dispose of the worn bow hair.
  4. Guide the new bow hair (1) through the bottom eyelet of the aluminum rod (2) and fix it in place by moving the moving slider (3).
  5. Guide the aluminum rod (2) into the plastic handle (4) from below.
  6. Tighten the adjusting screw (5) until the bow hair is pre-tensioned.Harley-Benton-96138-Guitar-Bow-FIG-3
