Information Concerning Transport of Hazardous Materials

  1. Mode of Transport
Different legislation is in force with respect to the mode of transport: Road (law governing transport of dangerous goods GGBefG and ADR), transport by sea (IMDG) or air carriage (IATA). Please also observe the national regulations in the country of import that may deviate from the following regulations.

  2. Quantity of Refrigerant per Refrigerating Machine
Essentially to be distinguished with respect to inflammability and mass contained (< or > 12 kg)

Road for more than 12 kg Refrigerant per Item

  • The following information must be contained in the transport documents:
  • Form not required. Language „German“.

Substance specific entry e. g.:

  • UN 2857 Refrigerating Machine, 2.2, (E) for non-combustible refrigerants
  • UN 3358 Refrigerating Machine, 2.1, (D) for combustible refrigerants
  • (UN-Number, official identifier, danger label no., tunnel code)
    1. Note 1: Tunnel code specifies admissible tunnels to be traversed
    2. Note 2: For class 2.1 and 2.2, a packaging group is not relevant.

Quantity and Type of Packaging:
Boxes with gross or net weight, material code acc. to material of packaging: (4G) cardboard box, (4D) wooden box or (4H1) plastics crate (e.g. foil with Styrofoam edges), to be selected according to packaging used
e. g.: 3 boxes (4D) with 1.428 kg or 3 boxes (4D) 3x 238 kg

Responsibilities

  • In the case of self-collectors, the document must be prepared and signed by the client. Glen Dimplex in writing transmits only substance-specific information to the client.
  • For deliveries to the client on the other hand, Glen Dimplex is responsible for preparing and signing the document. Before the order is placed, it must be agreed with the logistics provider, who is responsible for preparing and signing the documents. If Glen Dimplex is responsible, the document may be signed by any member of the team disposing of a qualification with respect to transport of hazardous material.
  • The following marking is required at one side of the transported goods:
  • Danger label 2.1 for UN 3358 or
  • Danger label 2.2 for UN 2857 or
  • UN Code: „UN 2857“ or „UN 3358“

The vehicle must dispose of the following marking / equipment:

  • As Glen Dimplex normally does not supply more than 1,000 kg of non-combustible resp. more than 333 kg of combustible refrigerant on one single vehicle (tractor vehicle and trailer), contained in total in all refrigerating machines, the company benefits from the relaxation rules. (Firmly installed refrigerating machines belonging to the vehicle itself in this calculation are not taken into consideration). ADR marking of the vehicle as well as ADR certificate for the driver are not necessary, and the required equipment restricts to a 2 kg fire extinguisher.
  • In the case of transport exceeding these quantities, the full ADR regulation must be respected, including vehicle marking, qualification of driver and safety equipment of the vehicle.

Transport by Sea for more than 12 kg refrigerant per item

  • The following information must be contained in the transport documents:

IMO Form required. Language „English“Substance-specific entry e.g.:

  • UN 2857 Refrigerating Machine, 2.2, (E) for non-combustible refrigerants
  • UN 3358 Refrigerating Machine, 2.1, (D) for combustible refrigerants
  • (UN-Number, official identifier, danger label no.)
  1. Note 1: For pre-carriage to the harbor, information acc. to ADR must be included (tunnel code)
  2. Note 2: For class 2.1 and 2.2, a packaging group is not relevant.

Quantity and Type of Packaging:

Boxes, material code acc. to material of packaging: (4G) cardboard box, (4D) wooden box or (4H1) plastics crate (e.g. foil with Styrofoam edges), to be specified according to packaging used:

  • e.g.: 3 Boxes (4D)
  • Fire-Code, Firefighting – Ship and Spill-Code – Leakage
  • F-C = Non-Flammable Gases
  • F-D = Flammable gases
  • S-V = Gases (Non-flammable, Non-toxic)
  • S-U = Gases (Flammable, Toxic or Corrosive)
  • e.g.: for UN 2857 Fire F-C, Spill S-V
  • UN 3358 Fire F-D, Spill S-U
  • Date, Names and Address of Consignor, Name and Address of Consignee
  • Carrier, name of the ship, loading and discharging port

Resp onsibilities

  • In the case of self-collectors, the document must be prepared and signed by the client. Glen Dimplex in writing transmits only substance-specific information to the client.

  • For deliveries to the client on the other hand, Glen Dimplex is responsible for preparing and signing the document.

  • Number of accounting entry, carrier, name of the ship, loading and discharging port have to be added by the forwarding agency.

  • The container packaging certificate must be issued by the enterprise responsible for the packaging procedure. For LCL and Bulk (objects exceeding the dimensions of the container), this is the packing shed, for FCL the forwarding agency performing the loading procedure.

  • The following marking is required at one side of the transported goods: refer to 2b.
The vehicle must dispose of the following marking / equipment:refer to 2c for pre- and after-carriage (i.e. transport to the final destination) via road.

Carriage by Air

A variety of regulations and provisions must be observed when transporting dangerous goods by air. In addition, many carriers refuse in principle to transport dangerous goods by air. For this reason, Glen Dimplex does not allow chillers with more than 12 kg of non-combustible refrigerant or with combustible refrigerant (including less than 12 kg) to be shipped by air as dangerous goods.
If the customer accepts responsibility for the transport, the customer is free to decide differently.
Chillers for air transport with more than 12 kg refrigerant or combustible refrigerant are always shipped without refrigerant
. This means that, following testing at Glen Dimplex, refrigerant is always removed from the unit at the factory in principle.
After this preparatory measure, the goods do not represent hazardous material anymore and can be requested and shipped in conventional manner.

Note: *Chillers with less than 100 grams of combustible refrigerant are exempt from these regulations.
The removal of the refrigerant is documented by means of the following label, to be signed and attached on the package:

Dimplex-UN-2857-Refrigerating-Machine- Note :
Refrigerating machines with combustible refrigerant at a quantity less than 12 kg, this label is already attached in the production department (without signature). In this case, the refrigerant has not been removed. The label is only intended to inform the client.

Safety Data Sheet

Acc. to article 7 REACH, Glen Dimplex is not bound to register the refrigerating machines and to inform the European Chemicals Agency, as these machines are deemed to be permanently closed and exposure to humans and environment can be excluded.

On the other hand, Glen Dimplex is obliged to inform the client, by means of installation and operating instructions included in the delivery, with respect to correct use and disposal.
Upon request, Glen Dimplex can also supply a safety data sheet of the corresponding refrigerant. Note that information contained only relates to the substance itself and not to the machine as a whole.
For safety data sheets, refer to our website, as follows: dimplex.com/en- de/rechtliches/rechtsvorschriften
