SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When using electrical appliances, especially when children are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  1. Always unplug the appliance immediately after use.
  2. Do not use it while bathing.
  3. Do not place or store the appliance where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink.
  4. Do not place in or drop into water or other liquid.
  5. If an appliance falls into the water, unplug it immediately. Do not reach into the water.

  3. Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer.
  4. Never operate this appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, or if it has been dropped, damaged, or dropped into water. Return the appliance to a service center for examination and repair.
  5. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces. Do not wrap the cord around the appliance.
  6. Never block the air openings of the appliance or place it on a soft surface, such as a bed or couch, where the air openings may be blocked. Keep the air openings free of lint, hair, and the like.
  7. Never use it while sleeping.
  8. Never drop or insert any object into any opening or hose.
  9. Do not use outdoors or operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.
  10. Do not use an extension cord with this appliance.
  11. Do not operate with a voltage converter. This appliance supports dual voltages.
  12. Do not place the appliance on any surface while it is operating.
  13. Do not touch the hot surfaces of the appliance. Use the handles or knobs.
  14. This iron and clip are hot when in use. Do not let eyes and bare skin touch heated surfaces.
  15. Do not place the heated iron directly on any surface while it is hot or plugged in.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS SERVICING OF DOUBLE-INSULATED APPLIANCES

  • In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. No grounding means is provided on a double-insulated appliance, nor should a means for grounding be added to the appliance. Servicing a double-insulated appliance requires extreme care and knowledge of the system, and should be done only by qualified service personnel. Replacement parts for a double-insulated appliance must be identical to the parts they replace. A double-insulated appliance is marked with the words “DOUBLE INSULATION” or “DOUBLE INSULATED”.
  • The symbol ( square within a square) may also be marked on the appliance.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  • This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way.
  • If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.

Operation

WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!

  • Ensure that the heating plates do not touch your scalp.
  • Never touch the heating plates and the upper part of the product during use.
  • Always pull the product through your hair.
  • Never stay in one position for too long. You may singe your hair.
  • Clean all parts of the product before first use as described in the chapter “Cleaning”.
  • The product may emit a slight smell when it is first used. This is entirely safe and harmless. Ensure there is adequate ventilation in the room.
  • Always hold onto the handle 4 when using the product.

Preparation

  1. Make sure your hair is clean, dry, and free of styling products (except special products that promote hair straightening).
  2. Thoroughly comb your hair so that there are no knots in it.
  3. Separate your hair into horizontal sections. Each section should be around the width and thickness of a heating plate 1.
  4. Pin or clip the sections you are not working on out of the way.

Setting up the product

  1. Connect the plug of the power cord 6 to an easily accessible outlet.
  2. Press and hold the standby button ( ) 3 to turn on the product.
    • The product heats up to the default operating temperature (120 °C/240 °F). The temperature change is shown in the temperature indicator 10 in display 9.
  3. If necessary, press both temperature buttons (+/–) 2 at the same time to change the temperature unit (°C/°F).
    • The temperature unit icon 12 shows your current selection.
  4. Press the temperature buttons (+/–) to select another operating temperature between 120 and 230 °C (240 and 450 °F) (12 settings).
    • The product heats up or cools down to the selected operating temperature. The temperature change is shown in the temperature indicator.
    • See below for recommended settings. If in doubt, start with a lower temperature and increase the temperature as necessary.

  5. Wait until the selected operating temperature stays lit in the temperature indicator.
    • This indicates that the product has reached the required operating temperature and is ready for use.
  6. If necessary, press the standby button ( ) twice consecutively to lock the temperature buttons (+/–).
    • This prevents accidental change of operating temperature during use.
    • The lock icon ( ) 11 shows when this function is activated.
    • To cancel this function, press the standby button button ( ) twice consecutively.

Straightening your hair

  1. Properly prepare your hair and set up the product (see the previous chapters).
  2. Take a hair section and pull it taut by holding its end tightly between your index and middle fingers of the hand that is not holding the product.
  3. Clamp the hair section near the root by pressing the heating plates 1 together.
  4. Gently glide the heating plates downwards from the root to the tip of the hair section (see Fig. B).Silk-n-HCA03NA-Hair-Straightner-FIG-2.
    • The infrared outlet 7 and ion generator 8 are also activated. The ion icon 13 in the display 9 illuminates.
    • The infrared light enables deeper and even heat penetration and repairs hair scales by locking in your hair’s natural moisture to prevent overdrying.
    • The negative ions seal the hair cuticles and help to reduce frizz and splitting.
  5. Proceed in the same way for every hair section.

After use

  1. When done, press and hold the standby button ( ) 3 to turn off the product.
    • The product remembers the last operating temperature for the next use.
    • The product also automatically turns itself off after 45 minutes without pressing any buttons. This is a safety feature and is not intended to be a replacement for the standby button ( ).
  2. Unplug the product and place it on a heat-resistant surface to allow it to completely cool down before cleaning or storage.

USER-MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

  • The appliance is virtually maintenance-free. No lubrication is needed. Keep heated surfaces clean and free of dust, dirt, and hair spray.
  • If cleaning becomes necessary, unplug the appliance from the power source and wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. If the cord becomes twisted, untwist it before use.
  • WARNING: The product is not intended to be opened and/or repaired by the user. Repair of the product shall be performed by an authorized person or in the certified service center only.

Cleaning

WARNING! RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!

  • Always unplug the product from the power power before cleaning.

NOTICE! RISK OF DAMAGE!

  • Do not use any aggressive cleaners, brushes with metal bristles, or sharp or metallic cleaning utensils such as knives, hard scrapers, and the like.
  • Never immerse the product in water or other liquids.
  1. Unplug the product and allow it to completely cool down before cleaning.
  2. Clean the product with a damp cloth.
  3. Dry the product thoroughly with a soft and clean cloth.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Unplug the appliance when not in use.
  • Allow the appliance to cool and store it out of reach of children in a safe, dry location. Never wrap the cord around the appliance since this will cause the cord to wear prematurely and break.
  • Handle the cord carefully for a longer life and avoid jerking, bending sharply, twisting, or straining the cord, especially at plug connections.
  • All parts must be completely dry before being stored.
  • Store the product in a clean and dry place, avoiding heat and direct sunlight.
  • Store the product so that it is not accessible to children.
  • For space-saving storage, press the heating plate 1 together and set the hinge lock 14 to the lock position ( ).
  • Before use, set the hinge lock to the unlock position to release the heating plates.
  • Warning: Do not lock the heating plates during operation.

Checking the product and package contents

  • If you are not cautious when opening the packaging with a sharp knife or other pointed objects, you may quickly damage the product.
  • Be very careful when opening it.
  1. Take the product out of the packaging.
  2. Check to make sure that all parts are included (see Fig. A).
  3. Check whether the product or individual parts are damaged. If this is the case, do not use the product. Contact our customer service.

Troubleshooting

Some problems may be caused by minor faults that you can fix yourself. To do so, follow the instructions in the following table.
If it is still not possible to resolve the problem, contact customer service. Do not repair the product yourself.

not defective, and the power cord is properly connected to a power outlet.
The hair is singed.| •   The selected operating temperature is too high. Select a lower temperature.
The hair does not straighten.| •   The hair is not clean, dry, or free of hair products (except hair straightening products).

•   The heating plate 1 is not clean.

•   The selected operating temperature is too low. Select a higher temperature.
