Loading IR data
Use the dedicated IR loader (software) to load IR data into this device. You can download the dedicated IR loader from the BOSS website. http://www.boss.info/support/.

Before using this unit, carefully read “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and “IMPORTANT NOTES” (the leaflet “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and the Owner’s Manual (p. 24)). After reading, keep the document(s) where it will be available for immediate reference.

Top Panel

Display
The memory number and name are shown on the play screen.
This shows the parameters and values when you are editing.
[MEMORY] knob
- Edit the memory and headphone volume by turning the knob. You can switch between memory and volume by pushing this knob.
- Turn the knob while pushing it to make the value jump in increments of 10.
- Hold down the knob to switch the screen display mode.
- When you are editing, turn the knob to switch between pages.
*[AMP] knob (1)**
Select the amp type.
*[CABINET] knob (1)**
Select the cabinet type.
- Useful function: FAVORITE
  Turn FAVORITE on to make it easier to select the cabinets you like. You can turn FAVORITE on multiple cabinets.
- Turning FAVORITE on/off
1. Double-click on the [CABINET] knob to turn its FAVORITE setting on/off. When this is on, the “+” symbol is shown in front of the cabinet name.
2. Any time you change a FAVORITE on/off setting, the new setting is stored in memory.
- Selecting a FAVORITE cabinet
  Turn the [CABINET] knob while pushing it to select cabinets which are set as a FAVORITE.
*[AMBIENCE] knob (1)
** Adjusts the effect level of the ambience.
*[MENU] button (2)**
The menu screen appears.
*[EXIT] button (2)**
Returns you to the previous screen. In some screens, this cancels the operation currently being executed.
[GAIN] knob
Adjusts the gain (amount of distortion).
[LEVEL] knob
Adjusts the amp’s output level.
[BASS] knob
Adjusts the tonal character of the amp’s low-end sound.
[MIDDLE] knob
Adjusts the tonal character of the amp’s midrange sound.
[TREBLE] knob
Adjusts the tonal character of the amp’s high-end sound.
*[ ] switch (3)**
Select the previous memory.
*[ ] switch (3)**
Select the next memory.

*1 Push the knob to edit the memory (p. 7). Hold down the knob to turn the system switch on/off. This switch is used for overall device settings. Use this when the connected devices or the performance environment has changed.
*2 Hold down the [MENU] button and press the [EXIT] button to display the write screen, where you can save settings to memory.
*3 Hold down the pedal to quickly move through the memories. You can also press the [ ] and [ ] switches together to bypass all effects.

Rear Panel

To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume, and turn off all the units before making any connections.

A. MIDI (OUT/IN) jacks
Use a TRS/MIDI connecting cable (sold separately:
- BMIDI-5-35) to connect an external MIDI device.
- MIDI IN: You can use an external MIDI device to switch between memories on this unit.
- MIDI OUT: You can control an external MIDI device by operating the pedal switch on this unit.
- Do not connect an audio device here. Doing so will cause malfunctions.
B. INPUT jack
Connect your guitar, bass, or effect unit here.
C. SEND jack / RETURN jack
Connect an external effect unit to these jacks.
- To use these jacks, you need to configure the SEND/RETURN MEMORY parameter.

D. OUTPUT (A/MONO, B) jacks
- Connect these jacks to your guitar amp, mixer or other audio device. Use only jack A for mono sound.
- Use the setting appropriate for the amp you are connecting to.
E. DC IN jack
- Connect the included AC adaptor to this jack.
- The DC IN jack also operates as the power switch. The power turns on when you insert a plug into the DC IN jack. The power turns off when you remove the plug.

Turning On/Off the Power

Once everything is properly connected, be sure to follow the procedure below to turn on their power. If you turn on equipment in the wrong order, you risk causing malfunction or equipment failure.
Before turning the unit on/off, always be sure to turn the volume down. Even with the volume turned down, you might hear some sound when switching the unit on/off. However, this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.

When powering up
Power-up equipment such as your guitar amp last.

When powering down
Power down equipment such as your guitar amp first.

The power to this unit will be turned off automatically after a predetermined amount of time has passed since it was last used for playing music, or its buttons or controls were operated (Auto Off function).
If you do not want the power to be turned off automatically, disengage the Auto Off function (p. 19).
- Unsaved data is lost when the power turns off. Before turning the power off, save the data that you want to keep.
- To restore power, turn the power on again.

Side Panel

F. AUX IN jack
Connect your audio player using a cable with a stereo mini plug. The audio signal input through AUX IN is mixed with the sound of this unit and is sent to the OUTPUT and PHONES jacks. Adjust the volume on the audio player side.
G. PHONES jack
- Used for connecting headphones (sold separately).
- Turn the surround on to make it seem as if the amp is sounding right in front of you.
- “SYSTEM parameter” SURROUND parameters for PHONES
H. CTL 1,2/EXP jacks
- Using the jack as CTL 1, 2
  You can connect a footswitch (sold separately: FS-5U, FS-6, or FS-7) and use it to switch the SOLO SW ON/OFF or switch memories (p. 12).
- Using the jack as EXP
  You can connect an expression pedal (sold separately:
- EV-30, Roland EV-5, etc.) and use it to control the amount of gain or the volume of the effect sound.
- Use only the specified expression pedal. By connecting any other expression pedals, you risk causing malfunction and/or damage to the unit.
I. USB port
- Connect your computer using a commercially available USB cable that supports USB 2.0.
- Do not use a micro USB cable that is designed only for charging a device. Charge-only cables cannot transmit data.
J. Ground terminal
- Connect this to an external earth or ground if necessary.

Getting Ready

Set the type of amp that you’ll connect to the OUTPUT (A/MONO, B) jacks.

Press the [MENU] button.
Push the knob below the “SYSTEM” indication on the screen.
Push the knob below the “OUTPUT SELECT” indication on the screen.
Set the TYPE for A, B.

MEMO
Turning STEREO LINK on lets you configure OUTPUT A and B together.

For details on the parameter, refer to the “OUTPUT SELECT”.

Editing the Memory

Turn these knobs to edit the amp and cabinet types, and to adjust the ambience level.

Press the [MENU] button.
The MENU screen appears.
Use the [MEMORY] knob to select page 1, and push the knob below the “MEMORY” indication on the screen.
The MENU>MEMORY screen appears.
Push the knob below each parameter on the screen that you wish to edit.
This makes the edit screen for each item appear.

Turn the [MEMORY] knob to switch between pages for edit screens with multiple pages.

MEMO

Press the [EXIT] button to return to the previous screen.
Press the [MENU] button to return to the MENU screen.

Saving and Switching Memories

Saving to Memory (WRITE)
You can save the settings for the effects you edit.

Press the [MENU] button and [EXIT] button simultaneously. The WRITE UTILITY screen appears.
Push the knob below the “WRITE” indication on the screen.
Use the [AMP] (TARGET) knob to select the save destination, and push the [MEMORY] (ENTER) knob. If you decide to cancel, press the [EXIT] button.
Specify the memory name.

Switching Memories
Here’s how to recall a saved memory.

Push the [MEMORY] knob to move the cursor to the memory number.
Turn the [MEMORY] knob to select the memory.
You can also use the [ ] and [ ] switches to switch between memories.

Exchanging Memories (EXCHANGE)

Press the [MENU] button and [EXIT] button simultaneously. The WRITE UTILITY screen appears.
Push the knob below the “EXCHANGE” indication on the screen.
Use the [AMP] (TARGET) knob to select the target, and push the [MEMORY] (ENTER) knob. If you decide to cancel, press the [EXIT] button.
Push the [MEMORY] (ENTER) knob. This exchanges the current memory with the memory you selected.

Initializing a Memory (INITIALIZE)

Press the [MENU] button and [EXIT] button simultaneously. The WRITE UTILITY screen appears.
Push the knob below the “INITIALIZE” indication on the screen.
Use the [AMP] (TARGET) knob to select the target, and push the [MEMORY] (ENTER) knob. If you decide to cancel, press the [EXIT] button.
Push the [MEMORY] (ENTER) knob. This initializes the memory.

Configuring the Settings (Menu)

IR-200 Block Diagram

Only supported by the VENDOR driver (IR-200 driver) for Windows and Mac OS. Not supported by iOS.

The memory settings are stored individually in each memory. Settings aside from memory-related settings are saved as overall device settings.

Basic Operation

Press the [MENU] button. You enter menu mode.
Turn the [MEMORY] knob to switch between pages, and then push a knob below the screen.
Turn the [MEMORY] knob to switch between pages, and then push a knob below the screen. The value is displayed.
Turn the three knobs below the screen to change the respective values. Turn the [MEMORY] knob to switch between pages. Press the [EXIT] button to return to the previous screen.
Press the [MENU] button. This takes you to the top of the MENU screen.

Assigning functions to external pedals
You can switch the amp SOLO switch on/off or switch between memories if you connect a footswitch (sold separately: FS-5U, FS-6, or FS-7) to the CTL 1, 2/EXP jack. Make the settings in the “DOWN/UP FUNCTION / CTL FUNCTION”.

Settings for Each Memory

MEMORY parameters
See “Saving to Memory (WRITE)” (p. 9) for how to configure the settings for each memory and save the memories. If you do not perform this operation, the changes are lost when you switch memories.

LEVEL| 0–100: Adjusts the volume of the entire preamp.

Be careful not to raise the Level setting too high.

BASS| 0–100: Adjusts the tone for the low-frequency range.
MIDDLE| 0–100: Adjusts the tone for the middle-frequency range.
TREBLE| 0–100: Adjusts the tone for the high-frequency range.
GAIN SW| LOW, MIDDLE, HIGH
SOLO SW| OFF, ON: Switches the tone to one suitable for solos.
SOLO LEVEL| 0–100: Adjusts the volume level when the SOLO SW is ON.

NOISE SUPPRESSOR

Parameter Value

THRESHOLD| OFF, 1–100: Adjust this parameter as appropriate for the volume of the noise. If the noise level is high, a higher setting is appropriate. If the noise level is low, a lower setting is appropriate. Adjust this value until the decay of the guitar sound is as natural as possible.

High settings for the threshold parameter may result in there being no sound when you play with your guitar volume turned down.

RELEASE| 0–100: Adjusts the time from when the noise suppressor begins to function until the noise level reaches “0.”

MODE

| NORMAL MONO RET (MONO RETURN) / NORMAL STEREO RET (STEREO RETURN): The

input to SEND/RETURN within the effect chain will be output to the SEND jack, and the input from the RETURN jack will be output following SEND/ RETURN. Use this setting if you want to connect an external effects processor in series within the IR-200’s effect chain.

DIR MIX MONO RET (MONO RETURN)/ DIR MIX STEREO RET (STEREO RETURN):
The input to SEND/RETURN within the effect chain will be output to the SEND jack, and the input from the RETURN jack and the input to SEND/RETURN (the direct sound) will be mixed and output following SEND/RETURN. Use this when you want to mix the IR-200’s effects sounds together with the sound of the external effects device applied to it.

MIDI PC MAP

Backing Up/Restoring This Unit

Use the dedicated IR loader (software) to back up and restore the IR-200’s data.
You can download the dedicated IR loader from the BOSS website. http://www.boss.info/support/.

Returning to the Factory Settings (Factory Reset)
Here’s how to return the IR-200 to its factory-set state. You can restore the system or individual memories to their factory defaults.

Press the [MENU] button. You enter menu mode.
Turn the [MEMORY] knob, and push the knob below the “FACTORY RESET” indication on the screen.
Follow the instructions shown on the screen.
- FROM SYSTEM, USER IR, MEMORY 1–128:
- TO Sets the range of memories that you want to revert to their factory default settings.

Attaching the Rubber Feet
You can attach the rubber feet (included) if necessary. Attach them in the locations shown in the illustration.

When turning the unit over, be careful to protect the buttons and knobs from damage. Also, handle the unit carefully; do not drop it.
Using the unit without rubber feet may damage the floor.

WARNING

Concerning the Auto Off function
The power to this unit will be turned off automatically after a predetermined amount of time has passed since it was last used for playing music, or its buttons or controls were operated (Auto Off function). If you do not want the power to be turned off automatically, disengage the Auto Off function.

Use only the supplied AC adaptor and the correct voltage
Be sure to use only the AC adaptor supplied with the unit. Also, make sure the line voltage at the installation matches the input voltage specified on the AC adaptor’s body. Other AC adaptors may use a different polarity, or be designed for a different voltage, so their use could result in damage, malfunction, or electric shock.

Keep small items out of the reach of children
To prevent accidental ingestion of the parts listed below, always keep them out of the reach of small children.

Handle the ground terminal carefully
If you remove the screw from the ground terminal, be sure to replace it; don’t leave it lying around where it could accidentally be swallowed by small children. When refastening the screw, make that it is firmly fastened, so it won’t come loose.

Placement
Depending on the material and temperature of the surface on which you place the unit, its rubber feet may discolour or mar the surface.

Repairs and Data
Before sending the unit away for repairs, be sure to make a backup of the data stored within it; or you may prefer to write down the needed information. Although we will do our utmost to preserve the data stored in your unit when we carry out repairs, in some cases, such as when the memory section is physically damaged, restoration of the stored content may be impossible. Roland assumes no liability concerning the restoration of any stored content that has been lost.

Additional Precautions

Any data stored within the unit can be lost as a result of equipment failure, incorrect operation, etc. To protect yourself against the irretrievable loss of data, try to make a habit of creating regular backups of the data you’ve stored in the unit.
