A: It is recommended to use the specified adhesives (3M #9469 or #4257) for attaching the blade seal for optimal performance and longevity. -
Q: What should I do if the blade seal pops off after installation?
A: If the blade seal pops off, carefully clean the surfaces, ensure they are dry, and reapply the seal following the installation instructions provided.
These instructions address either replacement or initial installation.
Silicone or EPDM Seal with Pressure Sensitive Adhesive
- Open blades. Use a scraper to remove any existing seal or adhesive.
- The surface must be free from dust, dirt, oil and moisture. Clean the blade edge with alcohol or similar solvents. Do not use mineral spirits or other petroleum-based solvents that leave a residue.
- Install when the blade surface is at 70°F or above.
- Cut seal material to exact blade length with release paper still on seal material.
- A blade seal will need to be applied to the closure strip at the top of the frame. Apply the blade seal to the bottom of every blade tip when the blades are in the closed position.
- Start at one end of the blade. Peel off 1-2 feet of release paper at a time and place the seal firmly onto the blade surface. Do NOT touch the adhesive. Use a finger or roller to press the seal to the blade. Do NOT stretch the seal as it will pop off in time
