Caution! General warnings!
To use, operate and maintain this torQtool medium, a number of precautions
must be taken.
For safety reasons, observe the warnings and instructions below.
- The torQtool medium is intended to tension torsion springs of overhead doors. Never use the torQtool medium for other purposes. The torQtool medium only fits 1” shafts and 95mm and 67mm springs.
- The torQtool medium is intended for qualified mechanics and as such is not suitable for do-it-yourselfers or for use by mechanics in training.
- The torQtool medium can only be used in conjunction with the safety grabber.
- The safety grabber is intended to be used on springs with small installation space. The center size is at least 86mm. By first placing the safety grabber on the spring independently of the torQtool medium, 95mm and 67mm springs with a small installation space can still be tensioned.
- This manual describes how to use and maintain the torQtool medium and the safety grabber.
- All safety warnings and/or notes that apply to the installation of the complete overhead sectional door must be observed.
- Never exceed the maximum torque of 160Nm.
- The warranty is void if parts are added or changed without consulting the manufacturer.
- During clamping, springs may be under great tension. Make sure you are in a stable position when using the torQtool medium. Also make sure that your body is not in line with the torQtool medium.
- Make sure that there is sufficient light when using the torQtool medium.
- Make sure that the safety grabber is always placed in the correct direction. Always in the direction of tensioning the spring. (so turn away from you when clamping) and (when taking off pressure turn toward you).
- After placing the torQtool medium over the hexagonal part of the safety grabber, check that the torQtool medium is lying against the yellow plate. The additional grooves in the hexagonal section ensure that torQtool medium is secured by the 10° turned slots.
- Be sure to guide the torQtool medium when tensioning the springs. Torsion springs stretch during tensioning. You must ensure that the torQtool medium moves along parallel to the shaft. Large stresses on the spring and the torQtool medium can occur if you do not ensure that the torQtool medium moves parallel to the shaft.
- All rights derived from this manual are reserved. Technical information is subject to change without notice.
Maintenance
- Ensure that the gears of the torQtool are medium lubricated. Use at least once a month PTFE spray (Teflon spray) or even better our specially developed multi-gel.
- Make sure that the torQtool medium is clean.
- Make sure the safety grabber is clean.
- Make sure the safety grabber can be manually opened and closed smoothly in both directions.
- Check the torQtool medium for damage before clamping a spring with the torQtool medium. Do not use the torQtool medium in a damaged condition
- Check the safety grabber for damage before placing the safety grabber on a spring plug and fixturing a spring with the torQtool medium.
Check before use
- Make absolutely sure that you are going to tension the spring in the correct direction! Dangerous situations resulting in possible injury will occur if you turn in the wrong direction.
- Check the torQtool medium for damage before clamping a spring with the torQtool medium. Do not use the torQtool medium in a damaged condition.
- Make sure the torQtool medium is clean before using it.
- Make sure the safety grabber is clean before using it.
- Always check the locking mechanism before tensioning the spring. This works properly when the pins disappear complete-ly into the plug (pay attention to correct direction of rotation)
- Be sure to use the correct size pins on the safety grabber before you begin tensioning the spring.
- Do not exceed the prescribed torque and maximum number of revolutions per minute.
- Use the proper 13mm hexagonal cap on your drill to operate the torQtool medium.
- Ensure that maintenance has been properly performed before using the torQtool medium. Keep the gears lubricated.
- Before using the safety grabber, make sure maintenance has been properly performed. Keep the moving parts lubricated.
- If in doubt about any of the above, do not use the torQtool medium and/or the safety grabber.
During use
- Do not use an impact wrench. Use only a normal (cordless) screwdriver.
- Be sure to guide the torQtool medium when tensioning the springs. Torsion springs stretch during tensioning. You must ensure that the torQtool medium moves along parallel to the shaft. Large stresses can occur on the spring and the torQtool medium if you do not ensure that the torQtool medium moves parallel to the shaft.
- Make sure you are tensioning the spring in the right direction. If you find out that you are tensioning the spring in the wrong direction then you must block the spring on the shaft using the set screws on the plug. First remove the torQtool medium and leave the safety grabber in place.
- Because the spring is attached to the shaft it is possible to block the safety grabber in the opposite direction and you can relax the spring in the opposite direction.
- In such a case, always replace the spring for a new one.
- If you are using a scissor elevator while tensioning the springs with the torQtool medium, never lower the scissor elevator before the spring plugs have been properly secured to the shaft.
- The torQtool medium should never be used to lift a door. Dangerous situations can occur if too much force is applied to the spring plug.
- Never disassemble the tool if the spring plug has not yet been secured to the shaft.
- Do not be distracted while tensioning springs.
