Information for your Parish
Hot on the heels of our Advent season, we are delighted to bring you the fourth season of Invited this Lent. It is a deeper dive into our faith and is designed to help us grow as disciples of Jesus by offering a richer level of formation as well as some practical challenges along the way. It is suitable for those who have already said “yes” to Jesus and who are looking for concrete ways to conform their lives more closely to Christ. We are joined this series by a set of amazing diocesan and religious priests, who offer their insights into what it means to make Jesus the Lord of our lives; how we, the Church, can be the beacon of light this world needs; and also how we can be transformed by all that Mother Church has to offer.
What is the Diocese providing
- A series of five films will be available for use in small groups or by individuals. They will be released on the following dates: Monday 19 & 26 February and 4, 11 & 18 March.
- Downloadable resources for participants. These are to be used alongside the films to enable a “deeper dive” into the topics discussed. They can be used by individuals or in a small group setting. Downloads for all episodes will be available from 16 February.
- Downloadable resources for small group leaders. These are to help group leaders facilitate conversations and lead their groups in prayer. They will include everything needed to help the sessions run smoothly and will be available from 9 February.
- Promotional material. As well as posters providing general information about the mission, we will provide posters that can be personalised with times and dates of parish meetings. Alongside these, we have created invitations that can be used by parishioners to invite friends, family, colleagues – or even other parishioners!
- Diocese-wide Zoom conversations. If you have people in your Parish who can’t make in-person meetings because they are housebound or have young children and can’t find childcare, then we would love to welcome them to our online sessions. These will take place on Thursday 22 & 29 February and 7, 14, & 21 March from 7pm-8.30pm. They can contact E: formation@abdiocese.org.uk to find out more.

What do parishes need to do
- Recruit small group leaders. The main characteristic a group leader needs is to be friendly and welcoming. They will also need to be confidant in facilitating conversations and comfortable when leading others in prayer. Resources will be provided to help them in their role. If there are going to be vulnerable people in their group, they will require an appropriate DBS.
- Book times and locations. When and where these meetings take place will be different for each parish. Some parishes may want to gather everyone in their parish hall for one event each week and then divide participants into small groups for conversations; others may want to offer a number of smaller meetings throughout each week in a variety of locations. As long as each group meets once a week for four weeks, starting the week beginning 27 November, they will have time to complete the materials.
- Promote the sessions. Use the posters and invitations provided by the Diocese to let people know what is happening. Put notices in your newsletter, update your website and proclaim it from the pulpit. Speak to people about this amazing opportunity and recruit a team of advocates who will do the same – we know that nothing beats a personal invitation! Let’s make this the most fruitful year yet for participation, because this is the season when we learn more about Jesus Christ and are challenged to accept him as the Lord of our entire lives.
- Ensure groups can access the films. The films will be available on the diocesan website: www.abdiocese.org.uk/invited and our YouTube channel www.youtube.com/@AandBcommunications. Group leaders will need access to the internet during the sessions, or to download the films in advance from our Vimeo page: Diocese of Arundel & Brighton (vimeo.com)
- Ensure participants have access to all the resources. It will be useful to have physical copies of the participant’s guide each week, as well as the guide for the leaders, but do encourage people to access them electronically where possible to save printing costs and the planet.
- Enjoy it! This is a great opportunity to continue to forge our parishes into communities of saints: strong, lively, and welcoming schools of discipleship, just as Bishop Richard has asked us to do.
