Analytics Reporting

  • Along with narrative articles, the AiQ platform also hosts analytics reports which may consist of a collection of visualizations that users can interact with (e.g. drill-up, drill-down, hover text, in-report filtering, etc), details of which are provided in the sections below.

Navigating the Reports

  • Each report can be viewed in full-screen mode, by simply clicking on View Report in Full Screen, as shown.
  • A report may contain one/more pages, available at the top and/or bottom of the screen. Click on each to view the relevant visualizations.

Tooltip

  • The tooltip is designed to provide further information relevant to a specific data point. In the example beside, where Mercedes-Benz is the selected vehicle manufacturer, the tooltip provides values for the car insurance group over time for the period 2023 Q1.

In-report Filtering and Drilling on Data

  • In-report filters can be in many forms, such as drop-downs, links, tiles, and data points on a chart – as marked in the screenshot below. Users can click on any of these to filter out “unwanted data” and examine specific data.
  • In the example beside, where the report page has been filtered on Manufacturer = Volkswagen, the chart titled ‘Model’ now displays data only for models from this manufacturer.
  • The second chart, titled ‘Registered Cars Over Time’ also only provides visualizations for Volkswagen.
  • Users can further filter on a specific Model, such as Golf to view relevant data (note: other data points on the chart will become “faded”).

Tip:

  • Clicking again on filtered data items will remove the filtering.Thatcham-Research-AiQ-Risk-Solutions-Insurance-fig-5

Important:

  • A filter may get applied to multiple charts/visualizations on a report – for example, in the screenshots below, we have filtered on Average Group Rating = HEV, and it has filtered data on charts titled ‘Top 30 Vehicle Manufacturers by Registered Cars’ AND Registered Cars over Time (Top 30 Vehicle Manufacturers)
  • Some reports are enabled with drill-up, drill, and drill-through functionality. This occurs when data is arranged in a hierarchy. For example, data displayed at a monthly level can be drilled into to view at a weekly or daily level.
  • Drill down (and drill up) allows the user to view data at a more (or less) granular level within the same visualization. This is denoted by a series of arrows in the top right corner when hovering over a relevant visualization.

Tip:

  • Drill mode is “switched on” (enabled) when the icon shows a white arrow on a dark grey background ( ); it is disabled when the icon is only a dark grey arrow ( )

To drill down and up through a chart, please follow the steps below:

  1. Hover over the relevant visualization to display these drill-up/down menu options (top right corner)
  2. Click on to “switch on” the drill down feature (the arrow changes to )Thatcham-Research-AiQ-Risk-Solutions-Insurance-fig-6
  3. Click on a data point to drill the chart down one level (for example, in the screenshots beside), the user clicks on country = ‘England’, to view information about the regions
  4. Continue clicking on data points at each level to show information at the next level down in the hierarchy (i.e. the user then clicked on region = ‘Southeast’, to view information about the relevant counties, and so forth) Thatcham-Research-AiQ-Risk-Solutions-Insurance-fig-10
  5. Hover over the visual and click on the icon (top right corner) at every level to navigate up to the next level in the hierarchy.
  6. Hover over a visual and click on (top right corner) to expand all data points down one level in the hierarchy (for example, in the screenshots above, you may want to look at all regions across all countries in the UK)

Tip:

  • Click on the icon (top right corner) to drill to the next level in the hierarchy without turning on drill mode.
  • Drill-through on the other hand, enables users to view relevant related information on a different page within the report.
  • For example, linking between a summary page showing all manufacturers, and a detailed page, containing in-depth data on a specific manufacturer.
  • Drilling-through navigates to the detailed page and applies the relevant filters to ensure only the requested manufacturer is displayed.

To drill through a report, please follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the relevant visualization
  2. Hover over any data point to see if a tooltip stating is available
  3. If yes, right-click on the desired data point and click on Drill Through >> appropriate linked page (tip: click anywhere in the white space to get out of the menu)
  4. Click on it to navigate back to the previous page within the report.

Tip: Filtering and drilling on data can be used in combination to enable you to gain insights from reporting.
