Please read carefully the instructions given below before using this appliance for the first time. The buddex is a compact top-rate performance appliance equipped with the latest micro-processorcontrolled electronics. For optimum re-sults and a long service life it is highly important to use this appliance properly. Please always strictly observe the following rules:
-
Deposit and charge in a dry and cool place.
ATTENTION : ALWAYS KEEP AWAY FROM INFLAMMABLE SUBSTANCES. STORE AND CHARGE ONLY ON HEAT-PROOF AND NON-COMBUSTIBLE SURFACES -
Do not expose to humidity, crushes and thuds.
-
To be used only by trained personnel, always store out of the reach of children!
-
Only to be used as intended according to the instructions! Faulty operation and improper use may lead to very serious injuries or start a fire.
-
Do not press the buddex against metal objects.
-
The appliance uses rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries that have to be disposed of properly according to the relevant national regulations.
-
Only authorised dealers may carry out repairs. Opening the housing will void the warranty.
Charging
Charging for the first time
Before the first use insert the plug of the charger supplied in its side
socket and connect the cord to the power supply. The green control light on
the other side of the buddex starts flashing.
ATTENTION : At the initial operation it may take up to one hour until the green light starts flashing. When after about 16 hours the green control light changes to a permanent light the batteries are fully charged and the buddex is ready for use.
IMPORTANT : PRIOR TO THE FIRST USE WAIT UNTIL THE PERMANENT GREEN LIGHT
FLASHES UP!
Subsequent charging The buddex batteries have to be discharged as deeply as
possible before recharging. At the latest after having recharged a previously
only partially discharged buddex for 10 times, it should be totally discharged
to reach its full battery capacity.
ATTENTION : PLEASE NOTE THE INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING STORING DURING CHARGING THE BATTERIES (see above).
Use
General comments:
The buddex is provided with an exact timed buzzer alarm, which emits a
continuous signal after approx. 6.5 seconds and switches off the debudder tip
even if the buddex is still pressed against the skull of the animal.
The dehorning procedure is activated within 6.5 seconds as a pulse, i.e. the
heating process of the burner head is interrupted 3 times, which can also be
seen from the flashing of the red light.
Tip : We recommend first beginning with the rotary movement when the device starts to pulse after the heating-up phase! (Control light starts to flash)The start of the dehorning procedure is indicated by the illumination of the red control light, after the light has flashed four times and after a continuous tone, which only stops when the appliance is discharged after the burning process has ended. It is not possible to use the appliance when connected to the charger. The breaks are dynamic and behave as follows:
- If only the minimum break of 5 seconds is kept to between two dehorning procedures, the appliance automatically switches to the overheating protection after 6 dehorning procedures (3 animals)
- If a pause of at least 35 seconds is kept to between each of the dehorning procedures, no overheating protection is required and the appliance does not switch off.
Important : The buddex is equipped with an overheating protection, whose
activation is indicated by a quick green flashing of the control light. During
this period the buddex cannot be used. After 3-5 minutes the overheating
protection will be automatically reset. At an increasingly diminished charge
level of the battery the buddex starts to emit an audible alarm at intervals
during the dehorning pro-cedure. This signal begins when the remaining battery
capacity is sufficient for approx. 2 more dehorning procedures. Once the
battery has been fully discharged, the appliance will switch off again
immediately after having been switched on (the red control light extinguishes)
and a continuous signal will be emitted. Although there might be the
possibility to carry out one or two further dehornings after a break of about
20 minutes, in this case the appliance must be recharged immediately.
One battery charge will last for up to 40 calves.
Tip : To ensure the longest lifetime possible for the battery, we recommend fully discharging it at least twice a year.
Explanation of visible and audible signals
- Light green Constant Battery is charged
- Light green 1-second interval Battery is charging
- Light green 1-second interval Overheating protection (4 min.)
- Light red Pulse Dehorning procedure (6.5 sec.)
- Tone Constant 1 sec. Dehorning procedure ended
- Tone 2x ½ sec. Battery almost flat (~ 2 dehorning procedures)
- Tone 6x ½ sec. Battery flat
- Tone ¼ sec. pulse Dehorning procedure was interrupted, signal disappears if burning procedure is continued
IMPORTANT NOTES!
- Before first using the buddex, charge for at least 16 hours.
- Before using the appliance, restrain and/or stun the calf (comply with corresponding animal protection legislation!)
- Prior to first dehorning procedure, always carry out a test burning (piece of timber) since the maximum temperature is not yet reached during the first burning.
- The buddex must be pressed firmly against the animal.
- Calves should only be dehorned starting from the 8th until maximum the 14th day of life.
As soon as horn buds become palpable
This is the best moment for debudding. Optimum results and minimum stress on
the animal will be achieved at this stage! No particular preparation is
required. Make sure the head has been restrained firmly and the animal is
fixed safely so that injuries of man and animal can be excluded while
debudding. Remove the protection cap of the buddex and wrap the wrist sling
around your hand. Place the tip of the buddex on the horn bud and press down
the debudder firmly. The red control light situated at the side of the
appliance lights up as soon as the ceramic tip has begu to heat up. As soon as
smoke can be seen, rotate the buddex two or three times by twisting your wrist
to cut a ring through hair, skin and horn down to the bone After about 6.5
seconds the alarm can be heard and the appliance will switch off itself. Now
remove the buddex from the animal’s head and treat the second horn in the same
way. At this early stage one treatment is enough for sure to arrest all horn
growth.
As soon as horn buds become clearly visible
Proceed the same way as described under B. After the circular incision has
been completed around the visible horn, it is necessary to remov the circular
piece of horn tissue inside the ring. (Illustration B: as soon as bone has
grown under the horn, there might be an unwante healing process from the
inside. Therefore all horn tissue should be removed inside the circular
incision!) If the incision has not been completed before the debudder has
switched off, the procedure can be repeated. By relieving the debudde before
switching off automatically, shorter waiting periods can be achieved to remove
the horn completely without stressing the animal.
