Product Usage Instructions

Setup and Unboxing:
Before the initial use, clean the coffee pot and filter basket as per the cleaning instructions provided. Set the time as indicated in the manual.

Display Features:
The display shows the time, timer settings, and various program functions like Clock.

Coffee Preparation:
Plug the machine into a power outlet. Use the On/Off button to switch between the three settings: 0 (Off) – I (On) – AUTO (Timer).

Cleaning and Maintenance:

To descale, mix approximately 80 ml of vinegar with cold water.
Follow the instructions for descaling provided in the manual.
After descaling, rinse the machine with cold water a few times without coffee grounds.

FAQ:

Why is my coffee not brewing properly?
Possible causes include the power cord not being plugged in or a malfunctioning power outlet. Ensure the coffee pot is correctly positioned under the spout.
How should I dispose of used coffee grounds?
You can compost the coffee grounds. To clean the filter basket, wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it thoroughly.

Dear Customer,
Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by those familiar with the instructions below.

Important safety instructions

Intended use

The appliance must only be used for making coffee from roasted and ground coffee beans.
Any use other than that described in these instructions (misuse) must be considered improper and may lead to personal injury or material damage.
This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as
- in staff kitchens in shops, offices and other similar working environments,
- in agricultural working environments,
- by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation,
- in bed-and breakfast type environments.
Do not leave the appliance unattended while connected.

Danger to certain categories of persons
There is an increased risk of injury for children and for people with reduced capabilities:

This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.
The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.
Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children –these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

Risk of electric shock
The device is powered by electricity, and so there is always a risk of electric shock.

The following precautions are therefore to be taken:

Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
The appliance should only be connected to a socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label.
Always remove the plug from the wall socket
- if the appliance is not used for an extended period of time,
- in case of any malfunction,
- before cleaning the appliance.
When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
Do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it; do not clean under running tap water.

Danger of burns and scalding
The appliance heats up water and keeps it hot. The exterior surfaces, jug and hot-plate become hot during use, and will retain some heat even afterwards. There is thus a danger of burns or scalding.

Do not touch those components during use: after use, allow them to cool down first.
Do not open the swing-out filter during use.
Always allow the appliance to cool down for about 5 minutes after use and before opening the swing-out filter or filling with fresh water.

Lack of hygiene
Lack of hygiene may result in germs forming inside the appliance:

Clean the appliance thoroughly before using it for the first time.
Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
The filter insert and jug should be cleaned on a daily basis.
Do not leave any residual water in the container.
The appliance must be descaled at regular intervals.

Danger of damage to the unit
Incorrect handling of the appliance can cause damage:

Always place the unit on a dry, level surface that is water- and heat-resistant, and unaffected by contact with the rubber feet.
Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath.
The appliance must not be operated inside a closed cabinet.
Do not let the power cord hang free.
Do not kink or pinch the power cord. Keep both the cord and the appliance itself well away from heat sources (eg hot-plates, gas flames).
Use only cold tap water to fill the container.

In case of a defective appliance
A defective appliance can cause material damage and injury:

Check the appliance for damage before every use.
Do not operate if the appliance shows any sign of damage.
In the event that you detect damage, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix).
Repairs to this appliance or its power cord must only be carried out by our customer service.

Before using for the first time

Unpack the appliance completely and remove all packaging materials and stickers.
Clean the jug and filter insert as described in the section Cleaning and care.
Set the time as described in Setting the time.
Before making coffee for the first time, let the appliance go through two or three filtration cycles using the indicated maximum amount of cold water, but without using ground coffee.
This should also be done if the appliance has not been used for an extended period of time, and after descaling.

Display information
The display shows the current time, the timer setting and the following programme functions:

Clock The current time can be set (see ‘Setting the time’)
Timer The desired time to activate the brewing process by timer can be set (see ‘Timer’)
Descale The appliance needs descaling (see ‘Cleaning and care / Descaling’)

Automatic switch-off
To save energy, the appliance (including the hot-plate) will switch itself off automatically about 35 minutes after the brewing cycle is complete.

Power-cord storage compartment
The integrated power-cord storage compartment at the rear is used for storing the power cord. The recess at the bottom facilitates limiting the length of the power cord.

Making coffee – general information

The measuring scales on the water container and glass jug help measuring the correct amount of clean water. The left scales are used for standard-sized cups of approx.125ml, the right scales for smaller cups.
Make sure that the indicated maximum amount of water or number of cups is not exceeded.
If several consecutive brewing cycles are required, switch off the coffee maker after each cycle and let the appliance cool down for approx. 5 minutes.

Caution: When filling the appliance with fresh water shortly after a brewing cycle is completed, there is a danger of scalding from hot water or steam escaping through the water outlet.

Setting the time

Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet. None of the indicator lights will come on. The coffee maker is switched off, the display shows 12:00.
To set the time, first press the PROG key.
The internal clock uses a 24-hour display format. The current time is set by using the h button for the hours, while the min button is used to set the minutes.

Example:

The current time is 15.30 (3.30 pm).
Press the PROG key; the display shows Clock.
Press the h button repeatedly (or keep it pressed for the necessary length of time) until the display shows 15:00.
Press the min button (or keep it pressed) until the display shows 15:30.
After around 5 seconds, Clock disappears from the display and the appliance is ready for use.

Timer

To start the brewing process with a delayed timer setting, you must first set the timer to the desired time.
Press the PROG button twice. The display shows Timer and the time last entered, or 12:00.
Use the buttons h und min to set the desired time. (If no input is made within 5 seconds, the Timer indicator disappears.)
Press the On/Off button twice to turn the appliance on.
The blue indicator light AUTO comes on.
At the pre-programmed time, the coffee maker will automatically switch on.
The blue indicator light goes out and the red light comes on.

On/Off button
The On/Off button is used to switch between the three settings 0-I-AUTO:

0 – The appliance is switched off. No indicator light is on.
I – The appliance is switched on. The red main indicator light comes on.
AUTO – The appliance automatically switches on at the pre-programmed time (Timer). The blue indicator light AUTO comes on.

Making coffee

Filling with water:
Open the water container and fill it with the desired quantity of water, then close the lid.
Preparing the jug:
Replace the lid on the jug, and then place it in the appliance. If correctly inserted, the lid will disable the drip-stop mechanism in the filter holder during the brewing cycle.
Inserting the paper filter:
Open the swing-out filter sideways and insert a size-4 paper filter into the filter holder, first folding down the perforated sides of the filter.
Filling with ground coffee:
For each regular-sized cup (125 ml), a measure of about 6 g (= 1½ – 2 teaspoons) of medium or finely ground coffee will be required. Close the swing-out filter afterwards.
Connecting the appliance:
Insert the power plug.
Starting the brewing cycle:
Press the On/Off button once to turn on the coffee maker. The red indicator light comes on. If the brewing cycle is to be started with a delayed timer setting, press the PROG button twice to verify that the timer has been set to the desired time. Now press the On/Off button twice. The blue indicator light AUTO comes on. The coffee maker automatically switches on at the pre- programmed time.
Removing the jug:
Wait until all the water has passed through; the jug can now be removed.
Keeping the coffee warm:
The coffee may be kept warm in the jug by leaving it standing on the hot- plate, which remains hot for about 35 minutes after brewing is complete.
Interrupting the brewing/keeping-warm cycle:
To interrupt the brewing cycle, or if the keeping-warm function is not needed, press the On/Off button twice to turn the appliance off.

Models with aroma selection switch: This appliance features a special aroma function, allowing the user to choose coffee with a normal strong flavour, or alternatively a very mild coffee.

Turn the aroma selection switch to the desired setting before the brewing cycle is started:
for mild coffee
or
for normal coffee

Cleaning and care

Descaling

Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal household appliances using hot water need descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to warrant proper functioning.
Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insufficient descaling.
A lengthening of the brewing time, increased noise during brewing or residual water remaining in the container indicate that descaling has become necessary.
An excessive build-up of lime deposits is very difficult to remove, even when strong descaling agents are used.
After 100 brewing cycles, the display shows Descale. The appliance needs descaling as described below. Once descaling is complete, the Descale indicator goes out.
Descaling must not be done right away, but should be done soonest. The Descale indicator may be cancelled by simultaneously pressing and holding the h and min buttons for around 3 seconds. A new reminder will be issued only after a further 100 brewing cycles.

Descaling may also be initiated at any time prior to the Descale indicator showing.

The descaling process

For descaling, a vinegar solution may be used as follows:
Mix 80 ml of vinegar essence with the indicated maximum amount of cold water.
Pour the descaling solution into the water container. Insert a paper filter without adding any ground coffee.
Models with aroma selection switch: Set the switch to position for normal coffee.
Press the and PROG-buttons simultaneously, keeping them pressed for around 3 seconds. The display shows Descale. The descaling cycle starts. To ensure thorough descaling, the water is heated in intervals.
Switch the unit off once the descaling solution has passed through the system completely.
Repeat the procedure if necessary.
During descaling, ensure sufficient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.
To clean the appliance after descaling, let it run through 2-3 filtration cycles using clean water only.
Do not pour descalers down enamel sinks.

Daily cleaning

Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it; do not clean under running tap water. The appliance may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, using a mild detergent. Wipe dry afterwards.
Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
To remove the used coffee grounds, open the swing-out filter, lift out the paper filter and dispose of the grounds (as a natural substance they may be composted).
Wipe the inside of the swing-out filter with a damp cloth, dry it and close it again.
The jug with lid and the filter insert may be cleaned with warm water or in a dishwasher after use.
For easy cleaning, open the jug lid and remove it by pulling it up. Replace it after cleaning, applying light pressure.

Disposal
Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.
