USER MANUAL
230724 Accent Integrated Amplifier
Welcome to your AVID Accent Amplifier
Please read this manual carefully to understand the features and functions of
your AVID Accent integrated amplifier, built with the highest quality
materials and industry standards for trouble-free enjoyment for years to come.
Caution
- Before connecting or disconnecting any equipment to your Accent, switch it off to protect your speakers from possible damage caused by momentary high-level signals due to the amplifier’s high power capabilities.
- There are no user-serviceable parts inside—please do not, under any circumstances, remove the cover of the Accent—doing so would expose you to potentially lethal voltages and void your warranty.
- Only clean your Accent with a dry microfibre cloth.
- Avoid exposing the unit to liquids. If water or any liquid enters the case, turn off the unit at the socket and seek advice from your dealer before using it again.
- If your Accent is to be left unused for a long period, please ensure it is switched off.
Key Features:
-
600VA Toroidal transformer—40,000uF Capacitance Reservoir
The power supply and amplifier work together to provide and manage the energy needed for music. They create a large energy reserve and prevent the amplifier from demanding more energy than the supply can handle. -
ALPS High Quality Volume Potentiometer
AVID’s renowned obsession for detail, “blind” listening tests were conducted to choose the best potentiometer for the Accent amplifier, recognizing its significant impact on the device’s overall performance. -
Fully discrete, high current, output stage
Integrated chip output devices limit amplifier performance, while discrete design enables use of superior devices and avoids compromises in key parameters like peak current, output impedance, and thermal performance. -
4 Line level Inputs
Accent can connect up to 4 line-level devices with the RCA rear panel connectors. -
High performance Phono stage
Accent’s phono stage is derived from our hugely successful Pellar model, delivering unparalleled performance and flexibility at its price point. It prioritizes distortion, noise, and RIAA compliance, resulting in superb sound. -
Superior headphone amplifier
Accent’s headphone amplifier is not an afterthought but a high-quality component. It uses discrete components for superior performance and compatibility with various headphones. It operates in pure Class ‘A’ at low to medium volume levels and has its own power feed. -
Bespoke Remote Control
Accent comes with a custom-designed remote control that is tailored specifically for the amplifier. Its intuitive layout allows for easy operation of volume adjustment and mute. The remote is fashioned from solid aluminium and has a stylish design that complements the amplifier’s aesthetics.
Placement
- Place your Accent on a sturdy and level surface.
- Avoid locations where your Accent may be affected by direct sunlight or damp.
- Keep your Accent away from heat sources.
- Ensure proper ventilation before placing the Accent in an enclosed space, such as a closed cabinet.
- Avoid placing any objects on the amplifier that could impede air-flow.
Front Panel
The front panel features a Volume Control knob, an Input Selector, Mono and
Mute push buttons, and a Headphone socket. Volume Control
To adjust the volume level, use the Volume Control by rotating it clockwise
until you achieve the desired level. The control can be operated either
manually or with the remote control. If using the manual control, simply turn
the knob by hand. If using the remote control, use the appropriate button to
change the volume level.
Remote Control
Mute operation is indicated with a ‘X’ and is the top button. When in
operation the blue LED on the front panel will shine. Push again to resume or
use the front panel switch.
Volume UP (+) is the middle button.
Retaining pressure on the button will keep increasing the volume to the
desired level.
Volume DOWN (-) with the lower button to reduce the volume all the way to zero
output if required.
Battery Replacement is simply done by removing the back panel. Remove the four
screws and remove panel and replace the two AAA batteries with suitable
replacements.
Input Control
Rotate input control selector to which input you desire. We recommend you
either reduce or mute the volume as a precaution.
Headphone Socket
Accent has a high-quality headphone amplifier that can drive most headphones.
Avoid excessive levels for prolonged periods to prevent permanent hearing
damage.
Mono Operation
Accent can switch stereo to mono with the blue LED indicator confirming
operation.
Mute
Press the Mute button to temporarily silence Accent’s output, indicated by a
blue LED.
Press again to resume. Check volume level before unmuting. Mute function can
also be operated with the remote control.
Phono Input
Check your cartridge documentation for recommended settings, then adjust the
phono stage using the switches to the right of the Phono input sockets with a
pen tip.
In the absence of full cartridge documentation, please follow these initial setup guidelines.
Sensitivity
There are three sensitivity levels available increasing from MM, MC LOW and MC
HIGH, with LOW and HIGH referring to gain level.
For example a Low Output MC will require a higher level of gain, hence MC
HIGH. With high output MC cartridges, set to MM.
Play a piece of music with which you are familiar. Adjust the volume control
to a comfortable listening level, if the volume control is much beyond the
half way point, you should probably consider increasing the sensitivity level,
if the volume is immediately very loud, then choose a lower sensitivity.
Resistance
If using a Moving Coil cartridge, use RCA loading plugs to set input
resistance. Plug them into the load RCA sockets shown.
Accent includes 500Ω plugs for Moving Coil cartridges. Other values available
through your dealer. Moving Magnet cartridges required no plugs and 47K is
pre-set.
Ground Earth Post
The phonostage provides an earthing post that should be connected to the
tonearm earth cable. Failure to do so will normally result in high levels of
hum and reduced sound quality.
Line Input
The Accent has 4 line inputs for audio equipment such as CD players or media
streamers. Connect your device to an input and select it on the front panel to
play.
Loudspeaker Connections
The Accent has binding posts compatible with banana plugs and spade connectors for power output. It has a protection circuit but avoid potential damage situations. Ensure tight connections to avoid sound loss and damage to terminals.
Speaker Cable
You can experiment with different speaker cables to tailor the sound to your
personal taste, but be aware some cables can affect system performance. Both
left and right cables should be the same length and keep cable resistance low
for best results with short runs and a large cross-sectional area, as this is
a high current design.
Correct Phase
Connect speakers “in phase” by matching positive and negative connections.
Mistakes adversely affect sound quality. Correctly connected speakers have
strong bass and clear image. Use Mono button to check for a strong centred
signal.
Mains Power
Power comes in through the IEC 3-pin connector with built-in filters, so no
need for external filters. Connect mains power last.
Mains Switch
Turn volume to minimum. Mains switch is hidden on bottom, behind the front
panel.
Clicks from relays as protection circuit activates. Blue LED on left indicates
power on.
Amplifier Protection
In the event of a fault occurring, the unit protects itself in the case of
faults (DC offset, short-circuit, overheating).
MUTE light illuminates. Unit resets after cooling, but turn off and
investigate fault. Check loudspeaker cabling and cooling. Contact dealer if
protection circuit keeps activating.
TROUBLESHOOTING
For operation problems, please use the following sequence:

5:Check that the speakers cables are correctly connected at both ends
Distorted sound| 1:If the volume is excessively high, turn the volume down
2:If you are listening to the Phono input, reduce the sensitivity (see PHONO
INPUT)
Hum from Phono input| 1:Ensure that the turntables earth cable has been
attached to the earth post on the rear of the amplifier
2:Check the same connection on your turntable—refer to units documentation
Sound cuts out| 1:Check amplifier and speaker terminals for loose, or shorted
connections
2:Ensure that the unit has adequate cool air and ventilation
Mute light on when Mute button off| This indicates a fault:
