For optimum results, plant as follows:

1| Spade or rototill the soil 12” deep, and create holes 2-3” deep and 18-24” apart.

2| Place a bulb in each hole. Avoid breaking off any stalks or growth that may be on the bulbs.
3| Refill the holes and firm the soil gently with your hands. (It’s always good to add organic matter to you soil. You can mix in dehydrated manure, garden compost, shredded leaves and/or peat moss.)
4| Water plants in lightly after planting. Apply a 2-4” layer of mulch to promote moisture retention and maintain even garden soil temperatures.

Continuing Care

  • Watering
    • Water plants in lightly after planting. Once growth starts to emerge in late spring, the plants need watered more frequently. However, take care not to over water. The soil should not be too soggy.
  • Mulching
    • Apply a 2-4” layer of mulch to promote moisture retention and maintain even garden soil temperatures.
  • Weeding

  • Grooming
    • Pinching secondary buds will produce larger flowers and plants. Remove older flowers to promote new flower buds.
  • Feeding
    • Discontinue any fertilizers by early September to prepare your plants for winter dormancy.
  • Winterizing
    • In zones 3-7, dig up the bulbs in the fall before the first frost. Store them indoors in a cool, dry location for the winter. Let the bulbs dry and cure for a few weeks before storing. In zones 8-10, apply a small layer of winter mulch.
