Safety & Clean Up
Liquid products found within this kit are solvent-borne and are highly flammable. Care should be taken to avoid the inhalation of spray mist or vapors, as well as contact between the wet paint and exposed skin or eyes. Always keep work areas well ventilated and wear personal protective equipment – respirators, eyewear, gloves. Keep away from flame, children, animals, and individuals sensitive to fumes. Always ensure nearby surfaces are covered and protected. Cleaning solvent for this paint is Xylene or a similar substitute. In the event of spills, ensure that Xylene is appropriate and safe to use on intended surfaces as there’s a risk of serious and permanent damage to surfaces such as linoleum, plastics, wood and anything previously painted. See additional safety notes at the end of this document.
Directions
- NOTE: This kit may be used for bathtubs, tile, wall surround, sinks, & more!
- STEP 1: Clear the sink of all personal items.
- CLEAN SINK THOROUGHLY! Scrub sink with Ajax® or Comet®, while focusing on areas with heavy soap buildup.
- NOTE: ANY soap residue left behind may prevent bonding and cause product failure.
- OPTIONAL: Using either a razor blade or sharp scraper, remove the caulk around the sink. You may or may not elect to do this dependent upon individual situations. Not necessary, but recommended.
- NOTE: NEVER place tools on unprotected surfaces. Keep bag nearby to collect debris, foreign materials, and waste while working on this project.
- CAUTION: In the following steps, proper ventilation and personal protection (gloves & eyewear) are highly recommended. Sink drains and faucets should be covered until the rinsing stage in the following step.
- NOTE: It is natural for contents of EZ Etch to settle over time, shake extremely well before use.
- STEP 2: Pour the entire container of EZ Etch into the center of the sink. Using the provided scrubbing pad, thoroughly spread to the entire surface. Allow the product to rest for 20 minutes. Rinse well with the scrubbing pad and water (may be water from sink or a nearby bucket.) While the sink is still damp, sand the sink completely using sandpaper provided. Rinse well after sanding.
- STEP 3: Place a glove or plastic bag over the sink faucet and handles to avoid water dripping into the sink. Using a blow dryer or wet-vacuum, blow water out of drain and handle areas. When the surfaces are free of moisture, use blue painters tape to mask off the sink drain and the counter around the sink.
- NOTE: ANY moisture while rolling paint may result in product failure and cause bonding issues.
- STEP 5: Use a paper towel to remove any foreign materials or debris that may be in the sink area. If any structural repairs are needed, they may be done at the completion of this step.
- CAUTION: In the following steps – proper ventilation, gloves, and eye wear are strongly recommended. Use paint products with caution.
- STEP 6: Empty the contents from the bottle labeled Liquid Primer into a paper towel. Using that paper towel, wipe entirely across any surface desired that will be refinished in the following steps. Dispose of moist paper towel in a plastic bag and close it (to minimize fumes.) Allow primer to dry on the surface for 5 minutes.
- STEP 7: Retrieve Part A – Paint & Part B – Hardener from your kit. Empty the contents from the Part B container into the Part A container. Mix thoroughly for 3 minutes with provided stir stick until completely dispersed. Exercise caution as to not create air bubbles while mixing. Allow mixed paint to sit for 5 minutes. Empty mixture into paint tray when completed.
- NOTE: The “pot-life” for this product mixture is approximately 3 hours (at 70°F) -this is the time frame you have to complete this project before the mixed paint becomes unusable.
- STEP 8: Using the provided foam brush, utilize a dabbing technique to apply paint around all handles and areas where a roller will not fit. Then, using the provided foam roller, apply paint to the bottom of the sink and work your way up the curves of the surface. Finally, roll the top edge of the sink.
- NOTE: Remember to use a good amount of paint material while rolling. Never “dry-roll” as it will result in product failure. This is very important.
- OPTIONAL: A second coat may be applied right away following the same pattern. Ensure that you do not lean on wet surfaces.
- STEP 9: After allowing coating to set for 24 hours, carefully remove the tape by pulling at a 45 degree angle. Please allow refinished surfaces to dry 48 hours before use. If caulk was removed before refinishing, reapply around the sink using 100% Silicone caulk once surfaces are dry. Allow caulk to dry, and rinse refinished surfaces with warm water before use.
- NOTE: Dispose of all unused materials and debris immediately after completing the project. Obey all state, city, & town codes for proper paint disposal.
