WK 3479 Deluxe’ digital tea and water kettle, in glass

Dear Customer,
Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by those familiar with the instructions below.

Important safety instructions

Danger to certain categories of persons
There is an increased risk of injury for children and for people with reduced capabilities:

  • This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
  • Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.
  • The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.
  • Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
  • Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

Risk of electric shock
The device is powered by electricity, so there is always a risk of electric shock. The following precautions are therefore to be taken:

  • Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachments fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.

  • The appliance should only be connected to a socket installed in accordance with the regulations.
Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label.

  • Because the kettle uses high power, it must not be operated with any type of extension cable.

  • Always remove the plug from the wall socket
    – after use,
    – in case of any malfunction,
    – before cleaning the appliance.

  • When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.

  • Do not touch the plug with wet hands.

  • The electrical connections in the base must be protected at all times against possible contact with water.

  • Do not clean the water container and the base with liquids and do not immerse them; do not clean under running water.

  • The kettle may only be operated with the base provided with the appliance.

  • Never remove the water container from the base (or replace it) while the appliance is switched on.

The danger of burns and scalding

  • The exterior surfaces become hot during use and will remain so for some time afterward.
  • Do not leave the kettle unattended during operation. Use only pure water when filling the container to the desired level, observing the Min. (0.5 l) and Max. (1.5 l for tea or 1.7 l for water only) markings. Overfilling the container may cause danger if boiling water is forced out.
  • Also, beware of the danger of scalding from hot steam being emitted. Therefore, do not touch any parts of the appliance except the handle during use.
  • During the boiling process and when pouring out the hot water, the lid must be kept closed at all times.
  • Caution: To prevent the glass from cracking, do not fill the hot container with cold water.

Lack of hygiene
Lack of hygiene may result in germs forming inside the appliance:

  • Clean the appliance thoroughly before using it for the first time, and also after each cycle of use.
  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
  • The appliance must be descaled at regular intervals. Clean the water container as necessary with a damp cloth.
  • Detailed information on cleaning the appliance can be found in the section Cleaning and care.

The danger of damage to the unit
Incorrect handling of the appliance can cause damage:

  • Always let the appliance cool down first before refilling with fresh water.
  • Always place the unit on a dry, level, non-slip, and heat-resistant surface, which is impervious to contact with the rubber feet.
  • Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath.
  • Do not let the power cord hang free.
  • Do not kink or pinch the power cord. Keep both the cord and the appliance itself well away from heat sources (eg hot plates, gas flames).

Intended use

  • The appliance must only be used for heating clean, fresh water and for making hot beverages.
  • Any use other than that described in these instructions must be considered improper and may lead to personal injury or material damage.
  • This appliance is intended for domestic or similar  applications, such as
    – in staff kitchens in shops, offices, and other similar working environments,

– in agricultural working environments,

– by customers in hotels, motels, etc., and similar accommodations,
– in bed-and-breakfast-type environments.

  • Do not leave the appliance unattended while connected.

  • Caution: Any misuse can cause severe personal injury.

In case of a defective appliance
A defective appliance can cause material damage and injury:

  • Check the appliance for damage before every use. Do not operate if the appliance shows any sign of damage.
  • In the event that you detect damage, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix).
  • Repairs to this appliance or its power cord must only be carried out by our customer service.
