FAQs
When and how do I clean the filters?
Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum is not picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction. To maintain optimal performance, tap filters clean periodically and wash them according to the regular cleaning schedule. Rinse the pre-motor foam and felt filters every month, or as needed.
- Make sure the vacuum is unplugged.
- Remove the dust cup and pull the foam and felt filters out from the top of the pod.
- Rinse filters thoroughly in cold water until the water runs clear. DO NOT place filters in the dishwasher or washing machine.
- Squeeze out excess water and let filters air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing.
- When filters are completely dry, reinstall the felt filter first, then add the foam filter on top.
Rinse the post-motor HEPA filter every 12 months, or as needed.
- Make sure the vacuum is unplugged.
- Remove the dust cup by pressing the button on the dust cup handle.
- Press down on the top of the filter door, then tilt the door and lift it out.
- Remove the HEPA filter cartridge and rinse under cold water, dirty side down, until the water runs clear.
- Allow the filter to air-dry completely for 24 hours.
- Once the HEPA filter is dry, reinstall it. Insert the bottom into the pod first, then press in the top until it clicks into place.
- To reinstall the filter door, insert the bottom into the pod first, then press in the top until it clicks into place.
How do you maintain the self-cleaning brushroll?
If you see any hair wrapped around the self-cleaning brushroll, continue cleaning to allow the brushroll to remove it. We recommend extending cleaning time using the setting II (Carpet) on bare-floor surfaces to allow hair to make its way to the dust cup. If some fibers or string remain wrapped around the brushroll after continued use, carefully remove them.
When and how do I empty the dust cup?
The dust cup should be emptied each time you vacuum and periodically during cleaning, when it appears full. For optimal performance, empty the dust cup before debris reaches the MAX FILL line.
- Press the release button on the top of the dust cup handle.
- Tilt the dust cup and lift it away from the vacuum body.
- Hold the dust cup over the trash and press the bottom door release button on the front of the dust cup. The bottom lid will drop open.
- Tap gently to empty contents.
- Close the lid, pressing it until it clicks into place.
- If needed, turn the dust cup upside down over the trash and press the top door release button.
- Tap gently to remove contents and wipe the interior of the dust cup clean with a soft cloth.
- To reinsert the dust cup, install the bottom into the pod first, then press in the top until it clicks into place.
How do I access and clean the brushroll?
- Turn off your vacuum and unplug it.
- Place the nozzle/pod on its back on the floor with the brushroll facing up.
- Using a coin, turn locks on the cover counterclockwise, then lift off the cover.
- Remove any clogs or debris around the brushroll and nozzle openings.
How do I assemble my vacuum?
- Place the pod on the floor to access the brushroll cover on the bottom of the nozzle.
- Insert the handle into the top of the wand.
- Connect the hose to the back of the pod.
- Insert C-clip into back of pod.
- Insert hose into hose holder.
- Store accessories on tool storage posts.For proper operation, ensure all parts are firmly clicked into place.
How do I turn the power on?
Press the Power/Surface switch at the top of the pod to setting I for hard floors and cleaning with accessories, or setting II for carpets. To turn off power, press the switch to the O position.
How do I use the different cleaning modes?
The Shark Navigator Swivel Pro Pet Upright Vacuum with Self-Cleaning Brushroll has two settings for cleaning.
For bare floors and delicate area rugs:
- Slide the selector switch to setting I, Hard Floor.
- To activate the brushroll, gently step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back.
- Note that the brushroll will spin slower in Hard Floor mode.
For carpets:
- Slide the selector switch to setting II, Carpet.
- To activate the brushroll, gently step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle back.
- The brushroll will spin faster in Carpet mode.
How do I clean above floors with or without accessories?
To clean with the handle:
- Press the release button on the back of the handle and gently lift it off the wand. Add an accessory and begin cleaning. For more reach, detach the handle and wand together:
- With the handle still attached to the wand, remove the cord from the clip.
- Press the wand release button and gently pull up on the handle to remove the wand from the pod. – Add an accessory to the end of the wand and begin cleaning.
- To replace, insert the wand into the pod and press down until it clicks into place.
How and when do I adjust the suction?
The suction control slider on the top of the handle allows you to adjust the suction. You can choose the optimal suction level for both bare floors and carpets. – Slide to MIN to reduce suction and increase maneuverability on carpets. – Slide to MAX to increase suction on bare floors.
