N6480Eis Special Electrolyte
Preparation and general
The electrodes are delivered ready-to-use. The irrigation cap located over membrane and diaphragm must be removed for measurement. It contains the special electrolyte (glacial acetic acid with LiCl or ethanol with LiCl). The electrode is ready to perform a measurement. Electrodes stored dry must be irrigated in special electrolyte for 24 hours. Lacking special electrolyte in the electrolyte area of the reference system has to be refilled. The filling level of the special electrolyte should always be at least 5 cm above the level of the measurement medium. The closure of the refiller opening must be opened for measurement. The diaphragm must be immersed in the measurement solution. Attention! Please wear appropriate protective equipment!
Electrodes with ground-joint diaphragm
The ground-joint diaphragm of this electrode is fixed with a shrink tubing when delivered. Remove the shrink tubing carefully with a sharp knife or scalpel for startup. To wet the ground joint surfaces, hold the electrode vertically with the refill opening open and carefully loosen the ground joint while turning it slightly until reference electrolyte solution emerges from the ground joint. Then put the ground joint sleeve back on while turning it slightly.
Storage and maintenance
Electrodes should be stored at a temperature of between 0° and 40 °C. Depending on storage conditions (temperature and air humidity), the special electrolyte in the cap may dry out prematurely. In this case, the electrode must be irrigated for at least 24 hours in special electrolyte and checked in use, whether it is ready for measurement.
Cleaning
Dirt and contamination at the membrane/Pt sensor and diaphragm will lead to measurement inaccuracies.
- Coatings and deposits can be removed with diluted mineral assets (e.g. hydrochloric acid 1:1), Organic contamination with the aid of suitable solvents, Grease with tenside solution and Proteins with hydrochloric pepsin solution (cleaning solution L 510).
- After cleaning, rinse off the electrodes with distilled water, do not rub dry.
- Platinum diaphragms must not be subjected to any mechanical treatment. Rinsing (e.g. vacuuming) may be followed by chemical cleaning (e.g. with diluted hydrochloric acid).
- Ground diaphragms are prepared for measurement by gently raising and then replacing the ground sleeve on the core. The refilling hole must be open during this process. Caution: More electrolyte flows out during this process to ensure full coverage of the ground surface.
- The glass membrane can be cleaned by rubbing off with a fluff-free cloth soaked in ethanol.
Quality
Every electrode must meet the strict quality requirements of final testing.
The durability depends mainly on the usage conditions. Extreme conditions
include for example high or frequently fluctuating temperatures, strong acids
and caustic solutions, protein and heavily contaminated solutions as
sulphides, bromides and iodides. Hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid
corrode glass.
Order no. special electrolyte
L 5014 Glacial acetic acid with lithium chloride
L 5034 Ethanol with lithium chloride
Please note the special hazards fort the electrolytes!
Glacial acetic acid with lithium chloride is corrosive, ethanol with lithium
chloride is highly flammable. The material safety data sheets of the special
electrolyte are on our homepage available for download.
