UNPACKING THE400 MINI

Before connecting any cables, check the contents of the packaging:

  • THE400 Mini

  • HECXSTICK (USB joystick)

  • HDMI cable

  • USB power cable

  • THE400 Mini Quick Start Guide (this guide)
    You will also need to have the following items available (not included):

  • A TV capable of 720p resolution with an HDMI port

  • A 5V/1A power adaptor with a USB-A port

SETTING UP THE400 MINIATARI The 400 Mini Scaled Down Recreation -
SETTING UP

  1. Make sure your TV is switched off before you connect THE400 Mini.
  2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on THE400 Mini, and then connect the other end to the HDMI port on your TV.
  3. Connect THECXSTICK to the leftmost USB port on the front of THE400 Mini. This is the port for Player one. Optionally, connect additional THECXSTICKs, THEGAMEPADs or THEJOYSTICKs to ports for Players two to four.
  4. Connect the USB power cable between the small USB-C power port on THE400 Mini and the large USB-A port on your power adaptor. Ensure the power adaptor is switched on and providing power.
  5. Switch on your TV and choose the appropriate HDMI input source.
  6. Press and release the power button.
  7. The power LED will glow red to confirm THE400 Mini is now on, and on the TV you should see THE400 Mini greeting screen and hear the accompanying tune.

THECXSTICK
All of THE400 Mini’s functions can be performed with THECXSTICK. THECXSTICK has a directional stick, a fire  button , a shoulder button , four-way button ring labelled   and , and two function buttons   and  .
Prompts for which buttons to press to perform functions are listed at the bottom of the screen on the Games Carousel and THE400 Mini’s various menus.
In the Games Carousel, press   to view a help screen showing which buttons to press in the currently selected game
While playing a game, pressing   will take you back to the Games Carousel.
While playing a game, THECXSTICK can be used to access some special in-game functions:

Activate Rewind Mode, allowing gameplay to be rewound by up

to 30 seconds
| Activate or deactivate the Virtual Keyboard

THECXSTICK can operate in either right or left handed mode. To switch the joystick into left handed mode, where the joystick is rotated to have the fire button at the top right, press   . IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Please read the following warnings and advice before setting up or using THE400 Mini.
GENERAL ADVICE

  • Only connect the following devices to the USB ports: keyboards, controllers, memory sticks, hubs
  • Make sure all cables are connected only to the correct ports, and make sure to hold plugs straight when inserting
  • Keep THE400 Mini and all cables and peripherals out of the reach of young children
  • Do not position THE400 Mini where it or any connected cables might cause someone to trip or stumble
  • Do not power off THE400 Mini whilst data is being loaded or saved
  • Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse THE400 Mini or any cables or peripherals
  • Place THE400 Mini on a flat, even surface and allow plenty of airflow through the grilles on the top and bottom of THE400 Mini (do not cover THE400 Mini)

SEIZURES
Some people (about 1 in 4000) may have seizures or blackouts triggered by flashes of light or particular patterns of colour. This may happen even if they have never had a seizure before. Video games, some of which employ effects such as colour-cycling or screen-flashing, may trigger these symptoms.

  • Anyone who has had a seizure, blackout, loss of awareness or any symptom related to an epileptic condition should consult a doctor before using THE400 Mini
  • Stop using THE400 Mini immediately and consult a doctor if you or anyone using or viewing THE400 Mini experiences dizziness, eye or muscle twitches, disorientation, affected vision, involuntary movements, convulsions or seizures. Only resume after consulting with a doctor To reduce the chances of a seizure while using THE400 Mini:
  • Use THE400 Mini in a well-lit area
  • Ensure the TV screen does not take up a large portion of your field of vision, by keeping a sensible distance away from the screen and/or using a small screen
  • Do not use THE400 Mini if you are tired or need sleep
  • Take a 15 minute break every hour, even if you don’t think you need it

ELECTRIC SHOCK
To avoid electric shock when you use THE400 Mini:

  • Do not expose THE400 Mini to any of the following: liquids, high temperatures, high humidity, steam, direct sunlight, excessive dust, smoke
  • Do not allow small particles or any foreign objects to get inside THE400 Mini
  • Do not touch THE400 Mini or any connected cables during an electrical storm
  • Do not touch any of the metal parts of the connectors on THE400 Mini
  • Do not use any power cables, HDMI cables or peripherals if they are split, frayed or otherwise damaged

REPETITIVE MOTION INJURIES
To reduce the chance of injury due to repetitive motion:

  • Avoid excessive play
  • Take a 15 minute break every hour, even if you don’t think you need it
  • If your hands, wrists or arms become sore while playing, or if you experience tingling, numbness, burning or stiffness, stop immediately and rest for several hours before playing again
  • If you continue to experience any of the above symptoms during or after using THE400 Mini, consult a doctor

EYESTRAIN AND MOTION SICKNESS
Continuous play can cause your eyes to hurt, and some games may cause some players to experience motion sickness. If you or anyone using or viewing THE400 Mini experience these symptoms, stop immediately and rest. Do not drive or engage in any other demanding activity until the symptoms subside.
To reduce the chances of these symptoms:

  • Take a 15 minute break every hour, even if you don’t think you need it
  • If you are prone to motion sickness, try to identify which games include the kinds of motion that trigger these symptoms, and avoid them
