GENERAL INSTRUCTION MANUAL

Before first use

  • Read all instructions, warning stickers and labels.
  • Remove all packaging material.
  • Wipe the outside of the appliance with a clean, damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent.
  • Clean the inside of the appliance with warm water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth or sponge. Never immerse or submerge the appliance in water or place it in the dishwasher.
  • Clean the appliance with a clean, damp cloth. Use a dry cloth to dry the inside of the appliance. Do not leave water in the appliance.
  • Leave the appliance switched on for a few minutes to allow the manufacturer‘s oily protective film to burn off (there may be a slight odour or smoke, which is perfectly normal):
  1. Always place the appliance on a dry, level and heat-resistant surface.
  2. Check that the unit is closed but not latched, and positioned with the red and green indicator lights pointing straight upward. DO NOT LOCK the appliance.
  3. Plug the power cable into a mains outlet to which no other appliances are connected. The red indicator light should turn on, indicating that the appliance is now preheating.
  4. Wait for the appliance to finish preheating, which is indicated by the green indicator light turning on.
  5. Leave the appliance switched on for approximately 3 minutes. Unplug the appliance afterwards.
  6. Wipe the appliance with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any residue. The appliance is now ready for use.

Use of the appliance (#2-5)

  1. Always place the appliance on a level and heat-resistant surface.

  2. Check that the unit is closed but not latched, and positioned with the red and green indicator lights pointing straight upward (the heavier part of the appliance should be at the bottom). DO NOT LOCK the appliance.

  3. Plug the power cable into a mains outlet to which no other appliances are connected. The red indicator light will come on, indicating that the appliance is preheating.

  4. Wait until the appliance has finished preheating, which is indicated by the green indicator light turning on.

  5. Open the appliance, being careful not to touch the inside. The first layer of batter should be just enough to cover the bottom of the waffle pan as shown in Figure #2 (approx. 1 cm). After the batter has been given a few seconds to set, it will begin to rise a little.

  6. Spread the filling in the middle of the first layer of batter (#3), cover with the remaining batter, filling the mould no more than three-quarters full (#4).
DO NOT fill to the brim – this would equate to overfilling, and cause the batter to spill during preparation.

  7. Close the appliance but DO NOT LOCK IT. Then use the handle to turn the appliance (#5). After 7 to 8 minutes, the appliance can be opened to check the baking progress of the waffle. The appliance can be closed again if the baking process needs to be continued. NEVER open the appliance during the baking process, as hot steam could escape.

  8. After the waffles have finished baking, you can remove them from the appliance. Important: Wear heat-resistant oven gloves or use potholders, as the escaping steam is extremely hot. Open the appliance. Use plastic, wooden or silicone cooking utensils to carefully lift the waffles out of the appliance and onto a plate. Do not use sharp metal cooking utensils, as these will damage the non-stick coating of the appliance (#6).

  9. Switch off the appliance and allow it to cool down before cleaning it (see the “Cleaning and care” section).

Info: The waffle mould inside the appliance has a non-stick coating. DO NOT use anti-stick sprays on this appliance. Before pouring in the batter, some vegetable oil can be dribbled onto the waffle mould inside the appliance so that the finished baked waffle can be more easily removed from the mould once it is cooked. Lateral vapour formation and condensation on the appliance during operation is normal and to be expected.
TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Wearing oven gloves and using oven gloves will protect you from accidentally touching the hot surface and from escaping steam when the appliance is opened.
  • Fillings such as meat, poultry, fish and eggs should be pre-cooked, and frozen foods thawed before use. The baking time is not long enough and the baking temperature is not hot enough to adequately cook these raw/uncooked or frozen ingredients intended for the filling.
  • The first layer of batter should be just enough to coat the bottom of the waffle mould. After the batter has been given a few seconds to set, it will begin to rise a little. Then add the filling (in the middle of the batter mass). The filling should not be added near the edges of the batter. After adding the filling, cover with the remaining batter, close the appliance (DO NOT LOCK), and turn it over.
  • If using canned fruit that is in a syrup or fruit juice (not a ready-made filling), drain as much as possible before using it as a filling.
  • If the ingredients have a firm consistency, such as diced ham, scrambled eggs or nuts, the filling can be gently pressed into the batter with the back of a spoon. Make sure to cover the filling with a second layer of batter.
  • The 13 cm diameter appliance holds approximately 1 cup of batter for an unfilled waffle. The 18 cm diameter appliance holds approximately 1½ cups of batter for an unfilled waffle. Filled waffles require less batter. The batter and filling should not exceed ¾ of the waffle mould. The batter expands during the baking process.
  • Only use non-metallic cooking utensils to avoid scratching the coating. Do not remove or prise food from the mould with sharp cooking utensils such as knives or forks, as this will scratch the non-stick coating.
  • Do not use steel wool or scouring pads. These can leave rough scratches. Always rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
  • Never stand the appliance upright during the baking process. Only stand the appliance upright for storage.

NOTE:
1 cup corresponds to a cup of approximately 240 ml capacity! 1 Tsp = 1 teaspoon, 1 Tbsp = 1 tablespoon.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If the appliance is not working properly…

  • Check that the power cable is plugged into a designated mains outlet.
  • It may be the case that the appliance is not receiving enough power from the outlet.
  • Plug the appliance into a different outlet to which no other appliances are connected.
  • Check that the amounts of batter and filling that have been used are not too great. Never lock the appliance during the baking process.
  • If the fillings are not fully cooked or hot enough: Consider parboiling or heating the filling before adding it.

CLEANING AND CARE

  1. Clean the appliance after each use. Unplug the power cable and ensure the unit has cooled down thoroughly before cleaning. DO NOT immerse or submerge the appliance in water or place it in the dishwasher.
  2. Wipe the outside of the appliance with a clean damp cloth using a mild detergent.
  3. Clean the inside of the appliance with warm water, a mild detergent and a non-abrasive cloth or sponge.
  4. Use a dry cloth to dry both the inside and outside of the appliance. Do not leave water in the appliance.

STORAGE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does the appliance need a certain amount of time to heat up?
Yes. The appliance will automatically preheat when plugged into an outlet. The green indicator light will light up once preheating is complete and baking can begin.
How hot does the appliance get?
The temperature range is between 175 °C and 205 °C.
How do you know when the baking process is complete?
Check the waffle after 7 to 8 minutes.
How much waffle batter is needed?
The 13 cm diameter appliance holds approximately 1 cup of batter for an unfilled waffle. The 18 cm diameter appliance holds approximately 1½ cups of batter for an unfilled waffle. Filled waffles require less batter. The batter and filling should not exceed ¾ of the waffle mould. The batter expands during the baking process.
Can you bake waffles without filling?
Yes. Approximately 1 cup of batter is required for the 13 cm diameter appliance and 1½ cups of batter for the 18 cm diameter appliance. The amount of batter may vary depending on the recipe and the batter used. Filled waffles require less batter. Never fill the appliance more than ¾ of its capacity. Refer to the recipe booklet to learn more about the amount of batter required for each filling.
Why does the batter escape through the sides during the baking process?
Too much batter is being used.
Why are my waffles cracked and not completely covering the filling?
Not enough batter was used before or after adding the filling.
Why aren‘t the waffles crispy?
The waffle can be left in the appliance longer to make it crispier.
Can you use gluten-free batter or keto batter to make waffles in this waffle maker?
Yes. Gluten-free flour can be used to make the batter for the waffle iron. To do this, follow the appropriate recipe.
Can you use puréed fruit, such as apple, instead of oil in the batter recipes?
Yes, waffles can be made with puréed fruit instead of oil.
When lifting the baked waffle, the waffle splits into two layers and only the top half can be removed. What am I doing wrong?
The waffle may have too much filling, the filling was not placed in the centre, the waffle was not baked long enough, or too little batter was used. Be sure to place the filling in the centre, so that the edges of the waffle seal the filling as it bakes.
Bake the waffle for an additional 30 to 60 seconds to more thoroughly bake the contents.
How do I finish the baking process and allow the appliance to cool down?
To stop baking, unplug the appliance and leave it to cool down for at least 30 minutes.
What can I do if the appliance still does not work after trying all the troubleshooting steps?
Never attempt to repair the appliance at home. Contact our customer service and follow the instructions in the user manual.
