The SCH480 is a digital bath and bedroom thermometer designed to provide accurate temperature readings for babies. This device is always ready for use and can be used in water or placed on a shelf in the baby’s bedroom.
The Philips Avent digital bath and bedroom thermometer allows you to conveniently determine the temperature of your baby’s bath or bedroom. Your baby can also play with this product safely, since the thermometer is designed to comply with EU toy safety standards. Your baby will feel most comfortable in the bath if the water temperature is between 36.5 °C and 38 °C. A temperature of 39 °C and above is too high and your baby could get scalded. At a room temperature of about 18 °C, babies feel most comfortable when sleeping.

Please read the following safety information carefully before using the device:

Warning

  • Always use this product under adult supervision.
  • Always keep batteries away from children. The battery is hazardous and is to be kept away from children (whether the battery is new or used).
  • No children should be present when batteries are replaced or when the thermometer is disassembled and assembled due to a choking hazard and a risk of swallowing batteries or small parts.
  • Risk of swallowing batteries! The product contains coin type batteries. The battery can cause severe or fatal injuries in 2 hours or less if it is swallowed or placed inside any part of the body.
  • Medical attention should be sought immediately if it is suspected the battery has been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body.
  • The battery housing cover must be reattached properly after it has been removed.
  • Batteries may explode if exposed to high temperatures or fire. Do not store or leave any product in direct sunlight or near any source of heat. Never attempt to recharge the battery.
  • Before use, always check the device for damage. Do not use the device when damaged, this could result in injuries.
  • Do not use the device if water or condensation is visible inside the battery housing or the display.
  • Do not short-circuit the battery terminals.
  • Take the battery packaging or appliance if you can, to help staff identify the battery. Symptoms may not be obvious. Your child might be coughing, gagging, or drooling, or pointing to their throat or stomach. Unclear or fluctuating symptoms mean it is important to be vigilant. Do not let your child eat or drink or make your child vomit.
  • If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children.
  • Dispose of used batteries immediately.

Caution

  • Use this product in water only if it is fully assembled in accordance with the instructions.
  • When the display starts flashing, the batteries are running low and accurate readings are no longer guaranteed.
  • Placing in water exceeding 70 °C will result in permanent damage of this product.
  • After replacing the batteries, it is not guaranteed
  • Do not mix different types of batteries or new and used batteries.
  • Only operate the device on LR44 coin batteries. Non-rechargeable batteries cannot be recharged.
  • Remove batteries during long periods of non-use or when the batteries are empty. Leakage and corrosion can damage the product.

Using your digital bath and bedroom thermometer

The digital bath and bedroom thermometer is always ready for use. Just let it float in the water or let it sit on a shelf in the baby’s bedroom. When you use the thermometer in the bath:

– Mix the water thoroughly with your hand, put the thermometer in the bath and wait at least 30 seconds until the temperature reading stabilizes to read the temperature measurement.
– This thermometer has a temperature measurement range between 0 °C and 50 °C.

Note: The temperature reading on the display updates every 10 seconds.

Cleaning

– Clean and dry after each use.
– Remove the measurement unit from the rubber housing regularly to clean and dry both parts separately.
– Do not use abrasive or anti-bacterial cleaning agents or chemical solvents. Excessive concentration of cleaning agents may eventually cause plastic components to crack.
– Do not clean the thermometer in a dishwasher, microwave or sterilizer.

Storage

Do not leave the product in direct sunlight.
Removing/inserting batteries
Replace the batteries as described below.

1. Push firmly to remove the measurement unit from the rubber housing (Fig. 1).
2. Remove the 4 screws with a small screwdriver and remove the battery housing cover (Fig. 2).
3. Carefully remove the empty batteries.
4. Insert new batteries (two LR44 coin batteries) with the + poles pointing upwards. Screw the screws  back in the battery housing to close it again. Then push the measurement unit back into the rubber housing.

Note: If the display still flashes after you have inserted new batteries, remove the batteries and insert them again.
