Product Usage Instructions

Configuring Home City and Daylight Savings Time (DST)

  1. Press the button indicated as (Fig. 4) to enter Home City setting mode.
  2. Use the buttons (A) and (C) to scroll and select your Home City (Fig. 5).
  3. Press the button indicated as (Fig. 6) to confirm your selection.
  4. If applicable, select AM or PM by pressing the button indicated as (Fig. 7).
  5. Press the button indicated as (Fig. 8) to confirm your selection.

Adjusting Hand Positions

  1. If the hands and Home City time on the digital display are not consistent, you can adjust the hand positions.
  2. Press and hold the button indicated as (Fig. 13) until ‘SUB’ starts flashing.
  3. Release the button (D) indicated as (Fig. 13).
  4. Use buttons (A) or (C) to adjust the hand positions (Fig. 14).
  5. Note: Holding down buttons (A) or (C) will move the hand at a faster rate of speed.
  6. Align the day of week hand to the Sunday position (Fig. 15).
  7. Align the hour hand to the 12 o’clock position (Fig. 16).
  8. Align the minute hand to the 12 o’clock position.

World Time Mode

  1. Press the button indicated as (Fig. 17) until ‘WT’ appears.
  2. Press the button (C) to scroll through each World Time city.
  3. Press the button (D) to view the current world time city name.

Daylight Savings Time (DST) Setting

  1. In World Time Mode, hold down the button (D) indicated as (Fig. 18) for approximately 3 seconds to turn DST ON or OFF.
  2. The DST icon will appear when DST is on and the time will increase by 1 hour.
  3. Note: If UTC is selected as the Home City, there is no Daylight Savings Time (DST).

Stopwatch Mode

  1. To enter Stopwatch mode, press the button (C) indicated as (Fig. 19) to start timing.
  2. Press the button (D) to see split time (Fig. 20).
  3. Press the button (D) to release split.
  4. Press the button (C) to stop timing.
  5. Press the button (D) to reset to ’00’ (Fig. 21).

Countdown Timer Mode

  1. To enter Countdown Timer mode, press the button indicated as (Fig. 22).
  2. Set the desired countdown time using buttons (A) and (C) (Fig. 23).
  3. Press the button indicated as (Fig. 24) to start the countdown.

Alarm Mode

  1. To enter Alarm mode, press the button indicated as (Fig. 25).
  2. Set the desired alarm time using buttons (A) and (C) (Fig. 26).
  3. Press the button indicated as (Fig. 27) to toggle the Chime ON indicator.
  4. Press the button indicated as (Fig. 28) to toggle the Alarm ON indicator.
  5. The alarm will sound for 10 seconds when the alarm time is reached.

  • Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
  • Do not force discharge, recharge, disassemble, heat above (Lithium Metal (CRXXXX series) 158°F (70 ºC) or Silver Oxide (SRXXXXX Series) 140°F (60°C) or incinerate. Doing so may result in injury due to venting, leakage or explosion resulting in chemical burns.
  • Ensure the batteries are installed correctly accord to polarity.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries, different brands or types of batteries, such as alkaline, carbon zinc, or re-chargeable batteries.
  • Remove and immediately recycle or dispose of batteries from equipment not used for an extended period of time according to local regulations.
  • Always completely secure the battery compartment. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product, remove the batteries and keep them away from children.

When setting, each button has a different function as indicated below (Fig. 1).

Modes – Digital Display

  • Press (B) to scroll through functions (Fig.2):
  • Time of Day (TIME)
  • World Time (WT)
  • Stopwatch (STW)
  • Timer (TMR)
  • Alarm (ALM)

  • In any mode, press (A) to illuminate backlight.
  • In any mode, press (B) for 2 seconds to return to Normal Time mode. After approximately 1 hour, hands will automatically return to normal position if no button is pushed.
  • In any mode, if hour and or minute hands are obstructing view of digital display, press (A) and (B) buttons at the same time to temporarily move hands to an area where they do not block digital display.
  • Hand icon will flash to indicate hands are not in current time location (Fig. 3).
  • Press (A) and (B) buttons at the same time to move hands back to normal position.

IMPORTANT OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
To begin using your watch, first it must be configured your Home City and daylight savings time (DST) setting. It is important to note World Time mode data depends on proper setting of your Home City, time of day and date*. Please take time to carefully set these.

Configuring Home City and Daylight Savings Time (DST)

  • Press (B) and scroll to ‘TIME’ mode.

  • Press and hold (D) until ‘SET’ flashes then disappears from display and current city code appears and scrolls across display. You are now in Home City setting mode (Fig. 4).

  • Press (C) to advance or (A) to scroll back through City Code list to find the one you want. Pressing and holding (C) or (A) will advance City at a faster rate.
    Complete list of City Codes is located at the end of this manual.

  • Press (D) after you have selected your Home City to return to timekeeping mode.

  • Once you have selected your City Code your watch uses UTC (Universal Time Code, Greenwich Mean Time) to calculate current times in different time zones.

Setting Digital Time and Date

  • Press (B) and scroll to ‘Time’ mode.

  • Press and hold (C) until ‘Set’ flashes and disappears from display and the current city code scrolls in display.

  • Press (B) to set DST. Use (A) or (C) to select On/Off (Fig. 5).

  • Press (B) to scroll to 12/24 hour format. Use (A) or (C) to select 12H or 24H.

  • Press (B) to enter ‘Seconds’. Press (C) to reset to zero.

  • Press (B) to enter ‘Hour’. Press (A) to advance or (C) to go back. Note: be sure to scroll so you can select AM or PM. Note: in 24H mode no “P” will be displayed to indicate PM (Fig. 6).

  • Press (B) to enter ‘Minute’. Press (A) to advance or (C) to go back (Fig. 7).

  • Press (B) to enter ‘Year’. Press (A) to advance or (C) to go back (Fig. 8).

  • Press (B) to enter ‘Month’. Press (A) to advance or (C) to go back (Fig. 9).

  • Press (B) to enter ‘Day’. Press (A) to advance or (C) to go back (Fig. 10).

  • Press (B) to enter ‘Key’. Press (A) or (C) to toggle between Key/Mute. If ‘Key’ is selected, watch will chime each time button is pressed (Fig. 11).

  • Press (B) to select ‘Light’. Press (A) or (C) to select 1 or 3 second duration for INDIGLO® to stay illuminated (Fig. 12).

Adjusting Hand Positions

If the hands and Home City time on digital display are not consistent, you can adjust the hand positions.

  • Press (B) and scroll to ‘Time’ mode.

  • Press and hold (D) for approximately 5 seconds or until ‘SUB’ begins to flash. Once ‘SUB’ is flashing, release (D) (Fig. 13).

  • Watch is now day of the week hand adjustment mode.

  • If day of the week hand is not pointing to ‘SU’ (Sunday), press (A) or (C) to move hand there (Fig. 14).

Note: Holding down (A) or (C) will move hand at faster rate of speed.

  • Once day of week hand is pointing to ‘SU’, press (B) to move to hour hand adjustment.

  • Hour Hand Adjustment – ‘0:00’ will appear in display with ‘0’ flashing (Fig. 15).

  • Press (A) or (C) to move hour hand to 12 o’clock position.

  • Once hour hand is pointing at 12 o’clock, press (C) to move to minute hand adjustment.

  • Minute Hand Adjustment – ‘0:00’ remains on display, but ‘00’ flashing (Fig. 16).

  • Press (A) or (C) to move to minute hand to 12 o’clock position.

  • Press (D) to return to ‘Time’ mode.

World Time Mode

To view 48 World Time cities / 31 time zones:

  1. Press (B) until WT appears (Fig. 17).

  2. Press (C) to scroll each World Time city.

  3. Press (D) to view current world time city name (scrolling: 3 letter abbreviation then full city name).

Daylight Savings Time (DST) Setting:

  • In World Time Mode, hold down (D) button for approximately 3 seconds to turn DST ON or OFF.
  • DST icon appears when DST is on and time will increase by 1 hour (Fig. 18). DST setting affects only city being displayed. Note: if UTC is selected as Home City, there is no Daylight Savings Time (DST).

Stopwatch Mode

To enter Stopwatch mode:

  • Press (B) until STW appears (Fig. 19).

  • Press (C) to start timing, press (C) to stop timing, press (D) to reset to ‘00’.

  • To take a Split Time:

    • press (C) to start timing.

    • press (D) to see split time (Fig. 20).

    • press (D) to release split.

    • press (C) to stop timing.

    • press (D) to reset to ‘00’ (Fig. 21).

  • Elapsed time is shown in 1/100th-second units. After the first hour, elapsed time will be shown in one-second units.

  • Stopwatch operation when started will continue to function even if you change to another mode. Maximum run time for stopwatch is 23 hours / 59 minutes / 59 seconds.

Countdown Timer Mode

  • To enter Countdown Timer mode:
    Press (B) until TMR appears (Fig. 22).

  • To configure countdown time:

    • Press (C) until ‘SET’ flashes and then disappears and hour digits starts to flash (Fig. 23).

    • Press (B) to scroll through Hour / Minute / Second. Flashing value indicates item to be set (Fig. 24).

  * Press (C) to increase time or press (A) to decrease time.
  * Press (D) to exit countdown timer setting mode.
  • To use countdown timer:
    • Once desired countdown time has been set press (C) to start timer.
    • Press (C) to stop timer if needed. Timer can be reactivated by pressing (C) again.
    • When timer reaches ‘0:00:00’ press any button to turn off.
    • Press (D) to reset timer.

Alarm Mode

  • To enter Alarm mode:

    • Press (B) until ALM appears (Fig. 25).

    • Press (C) to select alarm (ALM1 thru ALM5) and hourly chime (SIG) (Fig. 26).

  * To turn on hourly chime (SIG) press (D).  

If hourly chime is ‘ON’, icon will appear (Fig. 27), chime will sound twice at every hour.

  * When alarm is ‘On’, icon will appear (Fig. 28).
  • To set Alarm (ALM1 – ALM5):

    • In alarm mode press (D) until ‘SET’ flashes and then numbers flash to enter alarm setting mode (Fig. 29).

    • Press (B) to select hours or minutes. Use (A) or (C) to increase or decrease numbers (Fig. 30).

    • Once desired alarm time is selected press (D) to return to Alarm mode.

    • If no buttons are pressed within 2 minutes, watch will exit setting and return to Alarm mode.

  • When alarm time is reached (in any mode), it will sound for 10 seconds.
    To turn alarm off, press any button.

INDIGLO® NIGHT-LIGHT FEATURE

Press INDIGLO® button to activate night-light. Electroluminescent technology used in INDIGLO® night-light illuminates watch face at night and in low light conditions.

WATER RESISTANCE/SHOCK RESISTANCE

  • TIMEX® COMMAND ENCOUNTER watch is water resistant to 100 meters (328 ft).
  • Rinse watch with fresh water after exposure to salt water, including perspiration.
  • Shock-resistance will be indicated on watch face or caseback. Watches are designed to pass ISO test for shock-resistance. However, care should be taken to avoid damaging crystal/lens.
  • WARNING: To maintain water resistance, do not press any buttons under water.

Battery
Timex strongly recommends that a retailer or jeweler replace battery. Battery type is on watch back. Use metal tweezers to push internal reset switch after replacing battery. Battery life estimates are based on certain assumptions regarding usage; battery life may vary depending on actual usage.
