KENWOOD KPG-22U USB Programming Interface Cable

USB PROGRAMMING INTERFACE CABLE

Product Information

The USB Programming Interface Cable, models KPG-22U, KPG-36U,KPG-43U, and KPG- 46U, allows for easy programming of KENWOOD transceivers through a computer. It is compatible with Windows 7,Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 operating systems.

Operating System
The USB Programming Interface Cable is compatible with the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 10

Note: It is recommended to use the cable in desktop mode as the driver installation software does not support touch input.

Installing the Driver

  1. When using the KPG-22U/36U/43U/46U for the first time, install the supplied driver.
  2. After the driver finishes copying to the PC, click the [Finish] button.

Note: The KPG-22U/36U/43U/46U is installed as a virtual com port and only supports programs used for KENWOOD transceivers.

Troubleshooting
If the driver cannot be installed or if, after installing the driver and restarting your PC, the driver cannot be found or the operation does not stabilize, try the following:

  • Change the USB port to which you have connected the KPG-22U/36U/43U/46U.
  • Remove other equipment attached to the USB ports of the PC.

Connecting to a PC and Transceiver
To connect the USB Programming Interface Cable to a PC and transceiver, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the KPG-22U/36U/43U/46U USB connectors to the USB port of the PC.
  2. Connect the other connector to the transceiver.

Note: Connect the KPG-22U/36U/43U/46U directly to the transceiver and the PC (or USB HUB). Do not connect the KPG-22U/36U/43U/46U to any other device as it may cause malfunction.

Confirming the Installation
To confirm the installation of the USB Programming Interface Cable:

  1. Connect the KPG-22U/36U/43U/46U to a USB port.
  2. In the Device Manager, open the Port (COM and LPT).
  3. If “Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COMx)” appears, the installation is complete.

  • USB programming interface cable (USB 2.0 compliant)
    <cable length: 4.92 ft/ 1.5 m>

  • CD (with driver software)

  • Instruction manual (B62-2326-XX)

OPERATING SYSTEM

Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 operating system.
(Use in desktop mode is recommended. The driver installation software does not support touch input.)

INSTALLING THE DRIVER

When using the KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U for the fi rst time, install the supplied KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U driver.

ATTENTION:

  • Applicable operating systems are subject to change without notice due to the end of the technical support by Microsoft Corporation or change of the product specifi cations.
  • For Fpro software, use version 6.30 or later.
  • Depending on the usage condition of the USB apparatus, saved content may be lost. JVC KENWOOD Corporation does not take responsibility for damages or lost content.
    1. Turn on the PC, then insert the supplied CD into the CD-ROM drive of the PC. Double-click the [CP210xVCPInstaller_x64.exe] or [CP210xVCPInstaller_x86.exe] fi le. When the Installation Wizard starts, click [Next>].
    • Concerning the 64-bit version or 32-bit version, you should check the PC in advance.
    1. Read through the licensing agreement. If you consent to the terms of the agreement, check the “I accept this agreement”, then click [Next>].
    • Start the installation.
    1. When the driver fi nishes copying to the PC, click the [Finish].

Note:

  • The KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U is installed as a virtual com port.
  • The KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U does not support programs other than those used for KENWOOD transceivers.
  • If the driver cannot be installed or if, having installed the driver and restarted your PC, the driver cannot be found or the operation does not stabilize, try changing the USB port to that which you have connected the KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U. Additionally, try removing other equipment attached to the USB ports of the PC.

CONNECTING TO A PC AND TRANSCEIVER

Connect the KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U USB connectors to the USB port of the PC, and the other connector to the transceiver.

Note:

  • Connect the KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U directly to the transceiver and the PC (or USB HUB).
  • Do not connect the KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U other than PC (or USB HUB). It causes malfunction of the KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U and the transceiver.

CONFIRMING THE INSTALLATION

Connect the KPG-22U/ 36U/ 43U/ 46U to a USB port. In the “Device Manager”, open the “Port (COM and LPT)”. If “Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COMx)” appears, installation is complete.
