permanent full-time Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Cochrane,
Alberta.

ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the primary role of the Manufacturing
Engineer is to oversee the optimization of 4iiii manufacturing processes that
result in high quality products. This includes but is not limited to the
implementation of automation processes and refinement of current assembly
equipment.
Ultimately, this person makes certain the production lines work safely,
efficiently and effectively to satisfy our customers. The Manufacturing Engineer
at Alberta Factory works primarily at 4iiii in Cochrane, Alberta but
coordinates with the In-Situ Manufacturing Specialist to ensure manufacturing
engineering alignment with the other factories and production sites around the
world. Other responsibilities include supporting the Engineering department
with mechanical/product design, as well as the NPI team in new product
development and future product planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Manufacturing and Operational Support
- Evaluate manufacturing processes based on quality criteria as well as efficiency and throughput requirements
- Study production and machine requirements
- Develop efficient facility layouts, production lines, systems, processes and machine operations to optimize production efficiency, productivity, cost and quality assurance
- Develop and test automated and manual systems; upgrade systems and processes with nontechnology as necessary
- Design and install equipment
- Collaborate with Production Supervisors to organize and manage manufacturing workflows and resources
- Integrate disparate systems (e.g. equipment handling, transport)
- Resolve issues and delays in production
- Train staff on proper operation of new manufacturing equipment
- Oversee manufacturing engineers-in-training and/or manufacturing engineering technicians
- Support manufacturing in troubleshooting problems with manufacturing equipment
- Design jigs and fixtures to increase quality and production throughput
- Lead engineering development and support In-Situ Manufacturing for vendors and distributors
- Develop work instructions for new and existing processes
- Ensure that manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations
- Consider how current and future manufacturing processes impact the environment
- New Product Development – Manufacturability
- Work with product design to develop new products from a manufacturability perspective
- Participate in the PFMEA and DFMA processes to ensure safe manufacturability of quality products
- In conjunction with NPI, test prototypes and execute on production readiness
- Communicate progress and results to NPI
- Support transition of new products to manufacturing for mass production
- Liaison Between Multiple Manufacturing Facilities (Internal and External)
- Work with 4iiii’s manufacturing facility in Taiwan to ensure factory alignment
- Collaborate with the Taiwan factory to support and improve production at both factories
- Support the In-Situ Manufacturing Specialist by leading engineering development for external customers (e.g. OEMs and Distributors) that are involved in in-situ manufacturing
- Support customer in understanding the manufacturing process
- Troubleshoot problems in external factories
- Communicate process changes/improvements
- Review audit results and recommendations completed by the In-Situ Manufacturing Specialist on in-situ manufacturing facilities and provide feedback
- Communication/Project Management
- Plan tasks and deliverables and effectively communicate time estimates and milestones
- Communicate successes, challenges, goals and future improvements to manager
- Collaborate with other engineers, contractors and suppliers as required to achieve goals
- Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required
QUALIFICATIONS

5 years of experience as a manufacturing engineer working in an electronics manufacturing environment

Experience creating and improving cell design and facility layouts
-
Experience setting up production lines for optimized flow and production balancing from station to station, balancing TAKT times and throughput efficiency
-
Demonstrated skills in process engineering – detailed process flow for all products through the shop, which would include timing studies, resource requirements (personnel, skills, tools, equipment, utilities), etc. by operation and cell
-
Experience establishing quality checks between stations before gating/proceeding to the next step
-
Experience in production systems to capture required manufacturing data, CPKs and CPK analysis.
Understand manufacturing test data to recognize trends indicating potential process falling out of spec and ensure centering of test limits (i.e. bell curve data plotting and recording) -
Possess in depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, tool design and fabrication methods

Experience in manufacturing workstation automation, computer based work instructions, bar code scanning, test passes to next step or fails with unit information and equipment data recorded (eg. actual torque recorded, etc)

Experience drafting and executing maintenance schedules for equipment, calibration cycles, and ensuring production equipment remains in spec

Experience in creating and designing new products

Proficient in SOLIDWORKS (3D modeling program), +3 years experience

Experience designing jigs for electronics assembly validation, and test and mechanical production assembly

Designing electronic test jigs using bed of nails, BIST testing, and communication protocols such as I2C, serial, parallel, USB and wireless
-
Mechanical experience with test jig enclosure design, and product assembly jig design for repeatability and within product design tolerances

Experience with DFMA (Design For Manufacturing Assembly) and PFMEA (Production Failure Mode Element Analysis)
-
Experience understanding the intent and objectives of each phase of NPI development: Engineering, Design and Production builds

An understanding of production capacity for planning, optimization of throughput building sub assemblies in advance, and dealing with batches and timings where single piece flow is not possible

Some experience in firmware development and/or software coding is an asset

Project management experience is an asset

Experience leading and training a small team of engineers and/or technicians, preferred

Upholds a strong commitment to quality, health and safety standards, and environmental regulations

Bachelors of Science in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering; post-graduate degree an asset

Experience communicating with external customers

Experience writing Work Instructions

Ability to manage changing priorities
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Working full time at the worksite in Cochrane is required
- Some international travel; must have valid passport
