Performance Verifications
Resmed AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 models are the same except for a white finish.

Inspection
Check the unit for any damage, including the hose, knobs, power cord, power pack, and the low-voltage cable’s small plug & connector.

Initial Turn-On
The unit does not have an on/off switch. After plugging it into the power line, the main display and the green LED on the Start/Stop switch will light up. Note: The plug/connector at the rear of the unit can easily disconnect. If there is a problem, the unit will display an error code after turn-on.

Run-Time Check and Decision Point
Click on Settings and scroll to the bottom of the menu. Select About and note the Run Hours. Resmed indicates a device life of 5 years (~40,000 hrs). If the runtime exceeds 50% of this, it may affect your decision on further checkout/repairs. Note the date and time and update if needed.

Controls, Indicators and Factory Res et
Verify that the controls/dials are responsive. In clinical settings, scroll down and perform a Restore Defaults action. In the Clinical Menu, set Output Pressure to 8 cmH2O, Ramp Off, Mode = CPAP, EPR = 0 (and if the AirCurve 10, PS = 0). Exit the Clinical Menu.

Alternate Operational Checks

Option 1: If available, connect the breathing bag as shown in the Appendix. Hit Start/Stop, and the unit will inflate the bag. After the bag inflates, squeeze it and check that it re-inflates. If events per hour and AHI do not show in the normal User menu, go to Clinical Settings per Appendix, then go to Essentials and change it to Plus.
Option 2: Wearing a facemask, hit the Start/Stop at the unit’s top. No leaking sounds should come from the unit itself.

Filter Check and Replacement
According to Resmed, change the filter every few months or when discoloration is noticed. Refer to the Appendix photo for instructions.

Cell Tower Connectivity Check
This check is required when communication with a caregiver is needed. These units automatically connect to any available cell network when available. The cell tower connectivity is indicated by a bar graph. When connected, the color is green; when not, it is gray. Note: Some older units with only 3G connectivity will not work where 3G has been phased out.

Humidity Chamber Warming
To verify humidity chamber heating, go to Humidity Level inoptions and temporarily change it from Off to 5, for example. Run the unit for no more than a minute, then remove the humidity chamber and check for warming. Reset the Humidity Level back to Off.

Appendix
Accessing the Settings Menu: To check or change various settings, enter the Clinical Menu by choosing Options with the main dial, then press and hold the dial and the Home button for three seconds. Click on Settings and scroll down. Using the sequence just above, scroll down to Restore Defaults and click/proceed.

Performance Verifications

  1. Inspection
Check unit for any damage; i.e. hose, knobs, the power cord, power pack, and the low-voltage cable’s small plug & connector.

  2. ResMed-AirSense-10-CPAP-Machine- \(1\) Cleaning
External Cleaning is covered in the easily available User or Clinical Guides.
Internal Cleaning: Respiratory therapists have expressed reluctance to complete a unit that has visible contamination on the inside of the output port, inside the two input ports visible when the chamber is removed, and the port just behind the filter. Also, a dirty humidifier chamber is a red flag. All of the above indicate that the unit’s inner chambers likely need cleaning, a process not covered here. See service videos in Appendix. Note: If scrapping, salvage the SD card (8-32 GB typical). Needed only when sleep data requires transfer with no cellular service.

  3. Initial Turn-On
There is no on/off switch. After plugging unit to line, the main display and the green LED on the Start/Stop switch will light. Note: the plug/connector at rear of unit can easily disconnect.
After turn-on, unit will display an error code if problem.

  4. Run-Time Check and Decision Point
Per the note in the Appendix, click on “Settings” and scroll to the bottom of the menu and select “About”, and note “Run Hours”. Resmed indicates a device life of 5 years (~ 40,000 hrs). A runtime exceeding 50%of this may affect your decision on further checkout/repairs. Note date and time and update if needed.

  5. Controls, Indicators and Factory Reset (See Appendix for accessing Clinical Menu.)
Verify that controls/dials are responsive. In clinical settings, scroll down and perform “Restore Defaults”. Elsewhere in this menu set Output Pressure to 8 cmH2O, Ramp Off, Mode = CPAP, EPR = 0, (and if the AirCurve 10, PS=0). Exit Clinical Menu.

  6. Pressure/Flow Check Note: If manometer not available, go to 4.7
Output pressure is easily checked by using the manometer connection shown in the Appendix. Be sure manometer is set to cmH2O. Hit the Start/stop bar and the unit will up to 8 cm pressure in a few seconds. This will maintain for almost a minute for observation. Accuracy:
± 0.5 cm H2O ±4% of measured reading per User Manual. See
    photo.

  7. Alternate Operational Checks
Option 1: If available, connect the breathing bag as shown in the Appendix. Hit Start/Stop and unit will inflate bag. After the bag inflates, squeeze bag and check that it re-inflates.
Note : If “events per hour” and AHI do not show in the normal User menu, go to “Clinical Settings” per Appendix, and then go to “Essentials” and change it to “Plus”.
Option 2: Wearing a facemask, hit the Start/Stop at the unit’s top. No leaking sounds should come from the unit itself.

  8. Filter Check and Replacement
Per Resmed, change every few months or when discoloration is noticed. See Appendix photo.

  9. Cell Tower Connectivity Check (Required when communication to caregiver needed).
These units do not use Wifi, but instead automatically connect to any available cell network when available. This feature is functioning properly by noting this bar graph. When connected, the color is green, when not, gray. Note: Some older units with only 3G connectivity will not work where 3G has been phased out.

  10. Humidity Chamber Warming
Humidity Chamber Heating can be verified by going to “Humidity Level” in options and temporarily changing from “Off” to 5 for example. Run unit for no more than a minute; then remove the humidity chamber, and check for a warming. Reset “Humidity Level” back to “Off”.
