Product Usage Instructions

  1. Prepare the Micro SD Card:
  2. Obtain a Micro SD card with a capacity between 256MB and 32GB.
  3. If you don’t have a built-in card reader on your PC, use an external card reader.
  4. Access the Micro SD Slot:
  5. Locate the Micro SD slot on the right side of the device.
  6. Remove the cover using a small Phillips screwdriver.
  7. Insert the Micro SD Card:
  8. Insert the Micro SD card into the slot with the metallic end going in first.
  9. If the card gets stuck, do not force it. Flip it over and try inserting it the other way.
  10. Download and Extract Firmware:
  11. Download the firmware file from the following link: HC1-mdg-v1.28.zip
  12. Save the downloaded file to your computer.
  13. Extract the contents of the downloaded file.
  14. Copy Files to Micro SD Card:
  15. Copy all the extracted files, including EbootO3.raw and/or FLASHO3.bin, to the Micro SD card.
  16. Note: Do not copy the files to Flash Storage, as it is not the same as the SD card.

Transfer Files to Device:
This step can be done using either of the following methods:

  • Insert the SD card into a card reader attached to your PC and transfer the files.
  • Load the SD card into the HC1 device and use Windows Mobile Device Center’s “Browse the contents of your device” feature to transfer the files.

Power On the Device:
Make sure the device is powered on and connected to a power source.

Reset the Device:

  1. Locate the reset button, which is a small hole below the yellow trapezoid scan button on the keypad.
  2. Use the stylus to press and hold the reset button.

Access the Gray Menu:

  1. Press the ESC key and the Down Arrow key together.
  2. A gray menu should appear on the screen.

Update BootImg (Optional):

  1. If you have an extracted file named EbootO3.raw, follow these steps:
  2. Use the Down Arrow key to highlight “SD update BootImg” in the gray menu.
  3. Press Enter to select it.

Update OS:

  1. If you don’t have an extracted file named EbootO3.raw, skip the previous step and follow these steps instead:
  2. Press the ESC key and the Down Arrow key together again.
  3. Press the Down Arrow key twice to highlight “SD update OS” in the gray menu.
  4. Press Enter to select it.

Language Selection:

  1. During the update process, you will be prompted for language selection.
  2. Use the bottom yellow key on the right side to select “English”.
  3. Press Enter to confirm.
  4. Use the + key on the left side to go up and highlight the “Yes” checkbox.
  5. Press the bottom right button to check the box.
  6. Press the – key on the left side twice to highlight “Next>”.
  7. Press the bottom right button to select it.

Configuration and Reboot:
The device will go through a few minutes of configuration and reboot. Once it reboots, it will be ready for use.

FAQ

Q: Can I use this article for HC1-xxxxxADG units?
A: No, this article is only applicable to HC1 units with model number sticker HC1-xxxxxMDG.

  • This article should only be used on newer HC1 units whose model number sticker inside the battery compartment shows e`NJxxxxxMDG (where xxxxx are various characters). Do not use this article on HC1-xxxxxADG units.
  • You will need a Micro SD card, minimum 256MB and maximum 32GB. You may also need a card reader (built into a PC, or an external reader).
  • The device’s Micro SD slot is on the right side. Remove the cover with a small Phillips screwdriver. Insert the card with the metallic end first. If it sticks, don’t force it. Flip it over and try the other way.
  • Download, save, and extract the following file: https://dl.waspbarcode.com/kb/mobiledevice/hc1/HC1-mdg-v1.28.zip
  • Copy any extracted files (including EbootO3.raw and/or FLASHO3.bin) to the Micro SD card (or SDMMC). Note: Do not copy the files to Flash Storage, which is not the same as the SD card.
  • This can be done either through a card reader attached to the PC, or with the SD card loaded into the HC1 using Windows Mobile Device Center’s “Browse the contents of your device”.

Make sure power is supplied to the device.

  • With the stylus, press the reset button (hole to the right below the yellow trapezoid scan button on the keypad).
  • Press ESC and Down Arrow together. A gray menu should appear.
  • If one of your extracted files was “EbootO3.raw”, use the Down Arrow to highlight “SD update BootImg” (this loads EbootO3.raw) and hit Enter to select it. Otherwise skip ahead to the “SD update OS” line below.
  • When that completes, it will again go back to the splash screen. Quickly press ESC and Down Arrow together again, then press Down Arrow twice to highlight “SD update OS” (this loads FLASHO3.bin) and Enter to select it. This will take a couple of minutes.
  • When prompted, use the bottom yellow key on the right side to select English, then Enter. Use the + key on the left side to go up to the Yes check box, bottom right button to check the box, then – on the left twice to highlight Next> and bottom right again to select it.
  • The device will again go through a few minutes of configuration, and when it reboots it will be ready for use.
    • When loading the OS without BT-WiFi image, the Booting is not updated, so skip this step.
  • ** When the BootImg is not updated, it will not prompt for the language selection.
