NOTE: If your vehicle battery is not the battery mentioned above and you are not sure about which type it is, please choose AGM to conduct test, and the error is within 10%.

Operation Introduction

The tool is powered by solely the vehicle battery. Connect the RED (+) Positive Battery Clamp to the (+) positive battery terminal, and connect the BLACK (-) Negative Battery Clamp to the (-) negative battery terminal. Ensure that the clamps are securely  attached to the correct terminals.

After connection, the LED Display will display the message below, you can adjust the time and date (useful when printing);

Wait for seconds and the display will show the message below and you can choose battery volts;

  1. Quick Test
    Note: Suitable for quick test, especially for batteries with AH marked and CCA unmarked.
    1)On Main Menu, press the “ ” or “ ” button to select the “ BATT CAPACITY, then press ENTER to continue.
  1. According to battery type, press the “ ” or “ ” button to select, then press ENTER to continue.
  2. Press the “ ” or “ ” button to select the “ QUICK TEST, then press ENTER to continue.
  3. According to the AH value marked on the battery, press the “A” or “’¥” button to set the AH value, then press ‘ENTER to start quick test;
  4. After test complete, the message will display as below;
  1. Accurate Test
  1. OnMain Menu, press the “ ” or “’ ” button to select the “ BATT CAPACITY, then press ENTER to continue.
  2. According to battery type, press the “ ” or “ ” button to select, then press ‘ENTER to continue.
  3. Press the “ ” or “ ” button to select the “ ACCURATETEST, then press “ENTER to continue.
  4. Press the “ ” or “ ” button to select “Rating”, then press “ ENTER to continue.
    NOTE: JIS is Japanese Battery standard, which needs to be converted into CCA value to test (Please Google “JIS to CCA”). Choose «** when your battery specification is unavailable for a rough test, with lower accuracy.
  5. Press the “ ” or “ ” button to set the value (marked on the vehicle battery).
  6. After setting all values, press “ENTER to test. Test result will display as below.
  1. Cranking Test
    3.1 Before Test
    The engine and all other accessory loads must be OFFin order to have accurate results.
    3.2 Steps
  1. Select the ‘2. START-UP LOAD on the main menu.
  2. Press ‘ENTER to test. On the display is “CURRENT VOLT: 12.36V”, instant minimum starting volt “INST-VOLT: 12.30V”, and standard “INST-VOLT: 9.6V” (for 24V batteries it will be 16V).
  3. Explanation for cranking test results.
    Please refer to the chart below to confirm the test result.

4. Max Work Load Test
4.1 Before Test
Please start up the engine firstly.
4.2 Steps

  1. When the engine is working, connect the red clamp to the positive terminal , with the black to the negative. Make sure all connections are well contacted to ensure the accurate test.
  2. Select the ‘3. MAX WORK LOADtest on the main menu.

53) Press ‘ENTER, and turn on loads and speed up to 2000-2500rpm.

64) Press ‘ENTER to complete FULL LOAD TEST. On the display is current volt:12.86V, standard volt: 12.80V, and minimum volt: 12.30V (for 24V batteries it will be 25.60V).
  3. Explanation for Max Work Load test results.
    If the display volt value is above 12.8V (for 24V batteries it will be 25.60V), the load system is working well.
    If the display volt value is below 12.8V (for 24V batteries it will be 25.60V), please check the engine belt and if electrical short circuit.
  1. Charging Test
    5.1 Before Test
    The engine must beON during test.
    5.2 Steps
  1. Select the “4. CHARGE SYSTEMtest on the main menu.
  2. Press and hold ‘ENTER, and turn on loads and speed up to 2500-3500rpm.
  3. Press ‘ENTER again to test charging system.

74) Press the ‘ESC to exit.

  1. Print Test Report
    TOPDON BT500P is designed with printing function for data record and data confirmation.
    6.1 Steps
  1. After a test, the results will be displayed like below.
  2. Press ‘ENTER to display “Print Report” screen.
  3. BT500P will release a unique code according to time and order, or you can code the code.
  4. Press ‘ENTER to print.

DO NOT piace the tester near the engine or exhaust pipe to avoid damage from high temperatures.
DO NOT smoke, cause Sparks, or strike matches near the battery when testing.
DO NOT remove battery clamps while testing.
DO NOT put the tester into a highly humid or dusty environment.
DO NOT disassemble the tester.

Cautions

Use this tester in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Hazardous results could occur if tool is used for purposes not intended.
Before testing, make sure the battery terminals are clean. Grease and dust could result in inaccurate test results.
Wear eye protection when working around batteries.
Check the insulation layer of the battery clamps is in good condition (no damage, bareness or disconnection) to avoid electric shock.
Test in a well-ventilated area. Vehicle exhaust contains toxic carbon monoxide.
Keep hair, hands, and clothing as well as tester leads and cords away from moving blades and belts.
Keep the tester out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Q : Is BT500P able to test vehicle alternator?

A : BT500P can test alternator.

Q : Is BT500P able to test motorcycle batteries?

A : It can test 12V/24V battery, between 100 and 1700 CCA. If the motorcycle battery is lead-acid battery within these values, then yes.

Q : How to set the CCA range?

A : You can set the data near to the CCA standard number of your battery.

Q : Can the firmware be updated?

A : BT500P is a basic tool, so a firmware update would not be needed.

Q : Does it test 12V/24V deep cycle batteries?

A : Yes, it does.

Q : Will this tester work with marine batteries?

A : Yes, it can work with marine batteries.

Q : Will this accurately load test ATV batteries?

A : Yes, it can accurately load test ATV batteries.

Q : What does SOH, SOC, and BAT mean?

A : The SOH refers to the “State of health”. The SOC is the “State of charge” and the BAT is the “resistance value” of the battery.
