Packed with a powerful processor and OCR technology. the pen scanner can identify words with an accuracy of up to 99%. Get high-quality context-based translations, pronunciation guide and an extensive multilingual thesaurus.

Initializing the Device

A Wi-Fi connection is required when setting up Youdao Dictionary Pen 3 for the first time. Follow the steps below to initialize the device. The device only needs to be initialized ONCE.

1. Hold the power button to turn on the device. Choose the system language and the language that you wish to learn, then tap “Next” to move to network settings.
2. Select a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network and enter the password. *The device does not support 5Ghz Wi-Fi connection and Two-Factor Authentication,
3. The device will finalize the initialization process once it is connected to the Internet. Check your network settings if the connection fails.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the Home page. The device is ready for use.

Using your Dictionary Pen

Hold the pen as shown.

Align the centerline of the scanner tip with the center of the text.

Start scanning by pressing the scanner tip on the first letter and stop scanning by lifting the pen.

Hold the pen at 2 60-90%angle to the paper surface and slide the pen along a straight line at a steady speed.

Dictionary & Translator
To look up the meaning of a word, press the scanner tip onto the first letter of the word and scan it till the end at a steady speed. Multiline Scanning enabled. Scan multiple words or sentences and get the translation.
Tap and Translate
Quickly translate by just pressing the
scanner tip before a word and the
translation will appear without having
to scan.
Speaking Practice
Speak like a native. Yadao Dictionary Pen 3 supports online and offline speaking practice, pronunciation scoring and Al-powered pronunciation correction for words and sentences. *The function is currently only available for selected languages.
Wordbook
The Wordbook function allows you to use vocabulary flashcards containing trivia words and sentences to help you learn on the go. This function supports both Auto-Read and Auto-Play.
Connectivity
You can search for available Wi-Fi networks and connect to one via Settings > Network. The device only supports 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi connections, Please check your router settings or personal hotspot before connecting the device to the network.
System Update
Check for system updates in Settings > Update. When automatic system update is selected, the device will automatically update to the latest version when connected to the Internet and having more than 30% of battery. The pen can still be used while updating the system. Reboot your device to complete the system update. You can also download and install new updates manually.

Rebooting and System Restore

Forced Shutdown
When the device cannot be shut down properly, press and hold the power button for 6 seconds to perform a forced shutdown. Press and hold the power button again to turn on the device
Factory Reset
To reset the device to its factory settings or clear translation history, 90 to Settings > About > Reset Options.
