Troubleshooting Steps

My Philips Steam Iron does not remove creases

If your Philips Steam Iron is not removing wrinkles either horizontally or vertically, find out how to solve this in the following lines.
The temperature is set too low
For irons with a temperature dial, please set the temperature according to the fabric that you are ironing. You can use the following table as a reference.
Note: For some fabrics such as silk, wool, cotton and linen, steam is required to remove creases more efficiently.

Steam is not used

For steam generators: Press and hold the steam button/trigger below the handle of your Philips Steam Generator continuously to generate steam. When you release the button, your iron will stop steaming.
For steam irons: You can get more steam by using a shot of steam (a boost of steam) to help remove tough wrinkles. Press the steam boost trigger of your iron to increase the steam rate.

Incorrect vertical ironing

When you are ironing vertically, press the iron against the garment, ensure the soleplate is in direct contact with the garment and pull the sides of the garment with your other hand to stretch it. This will achieve optimal ironing results

The steam boost in my Philips Steam Iron is not working

If the steam boost of your Philips Steam Iron stopped working, please find our troubleshooting advice below
Steam irons only: The steam boost trigger has not been pressed and released
To activate the steam boost in your Philips Steam Iron, press the steam boost button/trigger.

Steam irons only: The steam boost function has been used too often
When you use the steam boost function of your Philips Steam Iron too often within a short period, the steam boost function will stop working for a while.
In this case, please wait for a couple of minutes until you use the steam boost again.
Steam generator irons only: The steam trigger was not pressed twice quickly
To switch on the steam boost in your Philips Steam Generator Iron, press the steam trigger twice quickly. To switch the steam boost off, just press the steam trigger once again.

My Philips Steam Generator Iron does not produce any steam

**** If your Philips Steam Generator Iron has stopped producing steam, please read our troubleshooting advice below to solve this.
There is no water in the water tank
If the water level on your Philips Steam Generator Iron is below the minimum level or there is no water in the tank, your iron is not able to generate steam. Please refill the water tank with water. Ensure that there is water in the tank or that the water is above the MIN level icon. After this, your iron should work again.

The iron is not ready to steam

Your Philips Steam Generator Iron needs up to 2 minutes to heat up before it is ready to produce steam.
Please wait until the blue “iron ready” light stops flashing and lights up continuously.

The steam trigger is not pressed

You need to press the steam trigger to generate steam. If you have a Philips Steam Generator Iron with OptimalTemp, always press the steam button to generate steam
Note: If you have a Philips Steam Generator Iron with a temperature dial, always make sure that the temperature dial is at the 2-dot, 3-dot or LINEN position, as shown in the image below. Your Philips Iron does not produce steam when the temperature dial is at the 1-dot position, the SYNTH setting or in Calc-Clean.
The iron needs to be descaled
If the red Calc-Clean light is blinking on your iron in combination with a beeping sound, your Philips Steam Generator Iron needs to be descaled before it can produce steam again. Please descale your iron.

The iron is being used for the first time

When you press your iron’s steam trigger for the first time, you will experience a steam delay of30 seconds. During these 30 seconds, you will hear a pumping sound. Thereafter, press the steam trigger again to produce steam.
Note: The 30 second steam delay could take up to a few minutes if the iron has been stored for a long time.
Note: Do not forget to fill in the water tank with water before pressing the steam button for the first time.
Automatic steam mode or Speed mode is off
If you prefer to use the Automatic steam mode or Speed mode, ensure that the mode is activated (usually this is indicated by a light on the top of the handle), and then move your Philips Steam Generator iron to generate steam.

My Philips Steam Iron/Steam Generator is leaking from the soleplate

If brown water or white flakes come out of the soleplate of your Philips Steam Iron, please refer to section A below.
If clear water comes out of the soleplate of your Philips Steam Iron, please refer to the section B below.
Section A: Brown water or white flakes are coming out of the iron

Are you using your iron for the first time?

During the very first use, white flakes may come out from the soleplate of your Philips Steam Iron. This is normal and will stop shortly.

Have you used perfumed water or a descaling solution?

**** Your Philips Steam Iron is not suitable for using perfumed/odourised water as it can damage the device. Please rinse the water tank, fill it up with tap water and descale your iron. You can follow the steps for descaling your Philips Iron here.
Note: If you live in a hard water area, always use distilled or demineralised water (50% demineralised/distilled water mixed with 50% clear water could be used as well) to prolong the lifetime of the device.

Have you just descaled your iron?

For Steam Generator Iron models: Some remaining water from descaling may have come out from the soleplate of your iron. Please make some ironing strokes without pressing the steam button.
For Steam Iron models: You may see some remaining water from descaling come out from the soleplate of your iron . Turn the steam setting to the “no steam” position by using the “steam/no steam” selector on top of the handle of your iron for dry ironing.
Section B: Clear water comes out of the iron

Have you been storing your iron for a month or longer?

Please hold your Philips Steam Iron away from the garment and press the steam button continuously for 30 seconds to release steam.

Is your ironing board wet? ****

Steam may condense on the board cover, particularly when using irons that produce powerful levels of steam. This can look like your iron is leaking from the soleplate. To prevent this, you can do the following:

  1. Select a lower steam setting than the setting that you have been using or use steam during the

first ironing strokes and then finish up with the dry-ironing strokes. If your iron has the ECO mode available, push the ECO button on the base to decrease the steam level.

  1. You can also put an extra layer of felt between the ironing board and the ironing board cover to minimise
  2. Replace the ironing board cover if the sponge material has worn

Have you set the temperature too low on the dial?

Please make sure that you set the temperature to the steaming zone (2-dot or above) on the temperature dial, as shown in the image below, before releasing steam. Then, let your Philips Steam Iron heat up in heel-rest position for one minute before you resume ironing.
Note: The image is for illustration purposes only and may differ from the dial of specific models. Did none of the solutions above solve the issue? Please contact us for further assistance.
