A8.350 Multichannel Power Amplifier
A8.350
Set-up instructions
Input connections
Connect up to 8 input channels using either unbalanced (RCA) or balanced (XLR)
cables. Channels are labeled 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B. A and B
channels have separate power supplies. So, if you are connecting less than 8
channels, distribute them among A’s and B’s to take advantage of both power
supplies. For example, with 4 channels, use 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B. Set the four
toggle switches to UNBAL (unbalanced) or BAL (balanced) as appropriate. You
can connect different source components, such as streamers and preamps, to
both balanced and unbalanced inputs of a channel and switch between them
using the toggles.
Output connections, trigger, and power
Connect up to 8 speakers using the corresponding output binding posts. Speaker
wires can be terminated with “banana plugs” which are inserted, or stripped
insulation (unscrew binding post cap, insert wire into hole on threaded shaft
and tighten cap). Observe correct polarity (“+” red and “-“ black).
The amplifier can be turned-on automatically by, for example, your
preamp/processor by connecting a 12-volt trigger wire to TRIGGER IN (top
right). You can use TRIGGER OUT to connect a “downstream” component such as
another amplifier to also be turned-on automatically. Connect the power cord
to AC INPUT (bottom right) and plug the other end into a 120-volt wall socket.
(Customers in countries with 230-volt mains supplies need to order the
230-volt version of this amplifier, and provide their own power cord.) Right
beneath the AC INPUT is a fuse receptacle. If it blows, replace this fuse only
with one of the same rating. Set the rocker switch to ON to power-on the
amplifier.
Operation
Vertical light on the front panel should be green. If it turns yellow, power- off, wait, then restart.
Starke Sound™ A8.350
A7 Sound Quality for 8 Channels
The A8 uses the same circuit core as the acclaimed A7 Mark II, honoring the
key traditions of great sound in Starke’s power amplifiers: the most linear
amplified state (Class A) and a fully-balanced circuit. Its 8-channel design
perfectly meets client needs in the era of immersive sound. Special A + AB
smooth switching technology brings the sweet, refined reproduction of Class A
to the theater. Its huge dynamic range delivers uncompressed sound in big
scenes while balanced input and output assure vanishingly-low distortion.
