Instructions for sharpening and honing
-
Mounting the Accessory Remove the knife jig from the machine and replace it with the RBS-140 Round Blade Sharpening Attachment (hereafter referred to as the “Accessory”).
Remove the supplied stop ring and attach it to the machine’s shaft against the Accessory to hold it in place. -
Setting the blade size
Measure the outer diameter of the blade. The accessory is compatible with blades of sizes 80–140 mm in diameter.
To set the size, loosen the guide’s stop screw and slide it to the desired size. Tighten the stop screw again to lock. The markings on the shaft refer to blade diameter, as illustrated above. Note that the dimensions are approximate. -
Mounting the blade Use protective gloves to
help prevent cuts!
Unscrew and remove the locknut and remove the tensioner from the guide. Thread the tensioner through the blade hole with the bevel against the thick end. Refit the tensioner and the blade in the guide.
Screw the lock nut back into place so that the blade is firmly attached. The tensioner is designed to suit most hole profiles with a diameter of 8–15 mm.
Hint! To prolong the life of the diamond grinding wheel, only sharpen clean and undamaged blades. -
Sharpening and honing the blade Fold down the Accessory so that the blade’s bevel is against the diamond grinding wheel and start the machine. Blade sharpening now begins.
After about 1 minute: Switch off the machine and use a fingernail to check if a burr (ie a microscopic edge) has appeared on the unsharpened side. If not, start the machine and sharpen a little more. When a burr has appeared, remove the blade from the Accessory.
Note: The blade will rotate by itself. Do not press on the accessory.
Pressing harder does not make the sharpening more efficient Note: The first time you sharpen the blade using the Accessory, it may take a little longer to achieve the desired result, depending on the amount of steel that needs to be removed.
Use protective gloves to help prevent cuts! Ensure that the honing wheel
rotates from the edge, otherwise the blade will cut into the honing wheel.
Start the machine and hold the blade in a steady grip using both hands. Hone
the unsharpened side with an even pressure against the honing wheel while
slowly rotating the blade.
When the burr has been honed off, you have a professionally sharpened blade
ready for use. For optimal results, remember to maintain the blade by
sharpening it at regular intervals. Stay sharp!
