Preparation Guide for Door with Existing Holes
Tools Needed
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Chisel
Step 1: Measure Door Width
Measure the width of your door. Ensure that the door is not thicker than 2
inches, as the lock will not fit properly on the door if it exceeds this
thickness.
Step 2: Measure for Backset
Using a tape measure, determine the backset measurement of your door. The
backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the
existing hole.
Step 3: Measure Hole Sizes
Measure the sizes of the existing holes on your door. If the hole sizes are
larger than those shown in the instructions, the lock will not fit properly.
Please proceed to Step 6. If the hole sizes are smaller, continue to Step 4.
Step 4: Enlarge Hole in the Door Edge (if needed)
If the hole in the door edge is smaller than 1 inch, use a 1-inch drill bit to
enlarge the hole to the required size.
Step 5: Check Strike (Door Jamb) Preparation
- Place the new strike box and strike against the door jamb.
- If the strike box and strike do not fit properly, use a pencil to trace around the strike box and strike, marking the hole positions.
- If necessary, use a chisel and drill to correct the door jamb preparation.
Step 6: Enlarge Holes in Door Jamb (if needed)
If the hole sizes on the door jamb are larger than those shown in the
instructions, the lock will not fit properly. Use appropriate tools to enlarge
the holes to the required size.
