Overview

Push sweeper

  1. Push handle
    The push handle is for holding and guiding the push sweeper.

  2. Container
    The container collects the dirt.

Intended Use

The STIHL Push Sweeper KGH 770.0 is designed for removing road dust, leaves, grass, paper and similar material from flat and hard sur‐ faces.

The STIHL Push Sweeper KGH 770.0 is not designed for sweeping:

  • Liquids, acids or solvents
  • Explosive dust or dust contaminated by patho‐ gens and mold
  • Glowing particles, hot ash, lit cigarettes and similar materials

Do not use the push sweeper for work in the rain or in wet or very damp environments. Do not leave the push sweeper in the rain.

The tool is suitable for commercial use.

Do not operate the push sweeper in potentially explosive areas.

WARNING

  • Using the push sweeper for purposes for which it is not designed may result in serious or fatal injuries and damage to property.
    • Use the push sweeper as described in this User Manual.

Requirements for the user

WARNING

  • Users without adequate training or instruction cannot recognize or assess the risks involved in using the push sweeper. The user or other persons may sustain serious or fatal injuries.

    • Read and understand the User Manual and keep it in a safe place for reference.
  • If you pass the push sweeper on to another
    person: Always give them the User Manual.

    • Make sure that the user meets the following conditions:
    • The user is rested.
    • The user must be in good physical condition and mental health to operate and work with the push sweeper. If the user is able to operate the equipment but is physically, hearing, visually or mentally impaired, the user may only work with the equipment under the supervision of or after receiving instruction from a responsible person.
    • The user is able to recognize and assess the risks involved in using the push sweeper.
    • The user is an adult or is being trained in an occupation under supervision according to national regulations.
    • The user has received instruction from a STIHL authorized dealer or other expert before operating the push sweeper for the first time.
    • The user is not under the influence of alcohol, medication or drugs.
    • If you are unsure: Consult a STIHL authorized dealer.

Clothing and equipment

WARNING

  • Dust may be whipped up during operation. Inhaled dust can damage health and trigger allergic reactions.
    • Wear a dust respirator mask.
  • Inappropriate clothing can snag on the sprayer. Users not wearing suitable clothing may be seriously injured.
    • Wear close-fitting clothing.
    • Remove scarves and jewelry.
  • The user can come into contact with the circular brushes or sweeper drum assembly during cleaning. This may result in injury to the user.
    • Wear work gloves made of robust material.
  • Wearing unsuitable footwear may cause the user to slip. This may result in injury to the user.
    • Wear sturdy, closed-toed footwear with non-slip soles.

Working area and surroundings

WARNING

  • Bystanders, children and animals cannot recognize or assess the dangers of the push sweeper. Bystanders, children and animals may be seriously injured.
    • Keep bystanders, children and animals away from the working area.
    • Do not leave the push sweeper unattended.
    • Make sure that children cannot play with the push sweeper.

Safe operating condition

The push sweeper is in safe operating condition when the following conditions are met:

  • The push sweeper is undamaged.
  • The push sweeper is clean and dry.
  • The container is attached correctly.
  • Original STIHL accessories for this push sweeper are attached.
  • The accessories are correctly installed.

WARNING

  • If not in safe condition, components may no longer operate correctly and safety devices may be rendered ineffective. This can result in serious or fatal injuries.
    • Work only with an undamaged push sweeper.
    • f the push sweeper is dirty or wet: Clean the push sweeper and allow it to dry.
    • Do not modify the push sweeper.
    • Attach STIHL accessories for this push sweeper.
    • Install the container as described in this User Manual.
    • Install accessories as described in this User Manual or in the User Manual for the accessories.
    • Never insert objects in the openings of the push sweeper.
    • Replace worn or damaged warning signs.
    • If you are unsure: Consult a STIHL author‐ ized dealer.

Operation

WARNING

  • In certain situations, the user may no longer be able to concentrate on their work. This may result in the user stumbling, falling and suffer‐ ing serious injury.

    • Work calmly and methodically.
    • If light and visibility are poor: Do not work with the push sweeper.
    • Use the push sweeper on your own.
    • Watch out for obstacles.
    • Work standing on the ground and keep your balance.
    • If you start feeling fatigue: Take a break.
  •  The rotating circular brushes and sweeper drum assembly can cut the user. This may result in serious injury to the user.

    • Do not touch the circular brushes and the sweeper drum assembly.
    • If the circular brushes or sweeper drum assembly become jammed by an object: Stop working and remove the object.
  • If the push sweeper starts behaving differently or in an unusual way during operation, the push sweeper may be in an unsafe condition. This may result in serious injury to people and damage to property.

    • Stop work and consult a STIHL authorized dealer.
  • During work, do not bump into objects, scaffolding or shelves. These can fall over or objects can fall down. This may result in serious injury to the user and damage to property.

    • Do not bump into objects, scaffolding or shelves.
  • If the push sweeper is set down on sloping surfaces, it can roll away. This may result in injury to people and damage to property.

  • Only set down the push sweeper on flat
    surfaces and secure it so that it does not
    roll away.
    ■ There can be shards, metal or other sharpedged materials in the container. Emptying the container may result in serious injury to the user and damage to property.

    • Wear work gloves.
  • If objects are attached to the push handle or transported on the push sweeper, the push sweeper may tip over or be damaged. This may result in injury to people and damage to property.

    • Do not attach objects to the push handle or transport them on the push sweeper.

Transporting

WARNING

  • The push sweeper may tip over or move dur‐ ing transport. This may result in injury to peo‐ ple and damage to property.
    • Secure the push sweeper with lashing straps, belts, or a net so that it cannot tip over or move.
  • The handle on the container is suitable for removing and carrying the container and not for carrying the push sweeper. If the sweeping tool is carried by the handle of the container, the container may unintentionally come loose, and property damage may result.
    • Carry the push sweeper as described in this User Manual.

Storage

WARNING

  • Children are not aware of and cannot assess the dangers of the push sweeper. Children may be seriously injured.
    • Store the push sweeper out of the reach of children.
  • The metallic parts on the push sweeper can corrode due to dampness. The push sweeper may be damaged.
    • Store the push sweeper in a clean and dry condition.
  • The push handle can fold down uncontrollably and pinch body parts between the push handle and the housing. People may be injured.
    • Do not reach within the swivel range of the push handle.
  • Kinked or bent bristles can become perma‐ nently deformed. 5 Preparing the push sweeper for operation
    • Store the push sweeper so that the bristles of the circular brushes are not kinked or deformed.

Cleaning, maintenance and repair

WARNING

  • Harsh detergents, cleaning with a water jet or sharp objects can damage the push sweeper. If the push sweeper is not cleaned correctly, components may no longer function properly or safety devices may be rendered inopera‐ tive. People may be seriously injured.
    • Clean the push sweeper as described in this User Manual.
  • If the push sweeper is not serviced or repaired correctly, components may no longer function properly or safety devices may be rendered inoperative. Persons may be seriously injured or killed.
    • Do not attempt to service or repair the push sweeper.
    • If the push sweeper has to be serviced or repaired: Contact a STIHL authorized dealer.

Preparing the push sweeper for operation

Preparing the push sweeper for operation

The following steps must be performed before commencing work:

  • Ensure that the following components are in a safe condition:
    • Push sweeper, 4.6.
    • Clean push sweeper, 11.1.
    • Attach the push handle, 6.1.
    • Adjust the height of the circular brushes, 7.2.
    • If you cannot carry out these steps: Do not use the push sweeper and contact a STIHL  authorized dealer

The push handle can be attached in 2 positions and thus aligned to the user’s height.

  • Aligning the push handle to the user’s height.

  • Position both holders (1) vertically.

  • Push push handle (2) into holders (1) at the same time. The detent springs (3) make an audible click.

  • Hold the push handle with both hands so that your thumbs wrap around the push handle.

Adjusting the circular brushes

The height of the circular brushes can be adjus‐ ted to 7 positions depending on the application.

  • Level 1 and level 2: for flat surfaces
  • Level 3 and level 4: for uneven surfaces and wet leaves or sand
  • Level 5 to level 7: for adjustment in case of worn bristles.

The bristles of the circular brushes must only rest on the ground with light pressure. Too much sur‐ face pressure increases the wear.

  • Turn rotary switch (1) to the desired position. The bristles (2) of the circular brushes rest on the ground with light pressure.

Sweeping

  • Push the push sweeper slowly and steadily forward.
  • Adapt the speed to the surroundings.
  • Drive over small elevations of 2 – 3 cm by pushing the push handle down slightly.

Emptying the Container

STIHL recommends only emptying the container outdoors.

The container is full if the collected dirt escapes out the side.

To be able to temporarily continue working, lift the push sweeper at the front to move the dirt in the container toward the back. This makes better use of the capacity of the container.

  • Fold the push handle (1) down.

  • Pull the handle (2) upward.

  • Remove and empty the container (3).

  • Insert the container (3) into the push sweeper so that the recesses (4) on the container (3) fit in the mounts (5) on the push sweeper.

  • Press the handle (2) down.

  • Fold the push handle (1) upward.

  • Remove and empty the container.
  • If the push sweeper is wet: Allow the push sweeper to dry.
  • Clean the push sweeper.
  • Clean the circular brushes and sweeper drum assembly.

  • Push the push sweeper slowly and steadily forward.

  • Fold the push handle (1) down.

  • Grip the push sweeper by the carrying handle (2) and set it up vertically

  • Carry the push sweeper by the carrying han‐ dle so that the circular brushes face away from the body.

Transporting the push sweeper in a vehicle

  • If the push sweeper is to be transported to save space:
  • Remove the push handle with holder.
  • Position the push sweeper in the vehicle so that the bristles of the circular brushes are not bent.
  • Secure the push sweeper with a tension belt between the container and the housing.
  • Secure the push sweeper so that it cannot tip over or move.

  • Position the push handle (1) at a 45° angle. Align the arrows (4) on the housing with the bar (3) on the holder (2).
  • Pull the holder (2) apart lightly and remove.

  • Pull the holder (1) lightly apart and hold.
  • Insert the locking tabs (2) into the recess of the mounts (3).
  • Fold the push handle (4) down completely. The push handle (4) engages with an audible click.

  • Set up the push sweeper vertically and secure it against falling over.

  • Secure the push handle against unintentional folding down.

  • The push sweeper should be stored in such a way that the following conditions are met:

    • The push sweeper cannot tip over or move.
    • The push sweeper is out of the reach of children.
    • The push sweeper is clean and dry.

  • Clean plastic parts with a damp cloth.
  • Clean the ventilation slots with a brush.

  • If the circular brushes or the sweeper drum assembly is blocked: Carefully remove wound or wedged foreign matter.
  • Clean the circular brushes and sweeper drum assembly with a wet rag.

Cleaning the air filter

  • Remove the container.
  • Pull air filter (1) out of the guides.
  •  Remove the foam inserts (2).
  • Rinse the foam inserts (2) under warm running water.
  • If the air filter (1) is damaged: Install a new air filter (1).
  • Allow the foam inserts (2) to dry in the air.
  • Insert the foam inserts (2) into the air filter (1).
  • Insert the air filter (1) into the guides in the push sweeper.

Maintenance

Straightening bent bristles

  • Carefully heat bristles with a hairdryer and straighten them.

NOTICE

  • Too high temperatures, hot air or open flames will permanently damage the bristles.
  • Use a hot air blower to straighten the bris‐ tles.

Lubricating the gearbox

  • Place push sweeper upright.

  • Spray an alcohol-based silicone spray through the opening (1) in the gear housing (2).us the push sweeper and contact a STIHL
    authorized dealer.
