General Power

Tool Safety Warnings
WARNING Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks that may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
  • Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators.
  • There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
  • Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
  • Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. The use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. The use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
  • Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
  • Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.

  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
  • Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry.
  • Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
  • if devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. The use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
  • Do not let familiarity gained from the frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles.
  • A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second Power tool use and care
  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
  • Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
  • Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.
  • Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
  • Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation.
  • If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
  • Use the power tool, accessories tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.
  • Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
  • Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.

  • P40 indicates that the appliance has been tested and approved for a cycling usage of 40 seconds fully loaded, followed by 60 seconds of idling.
  • The appliance can therefore be allowed to run continuously, but with regular breaks from heavy loading. Continuous heavy loading will cause the overload protection to trip.
  • Depending on the hardness of the wood.
  • The specifications apply to a rated voltage [U] of 230 V. These specifications may vary at different voltages and in country-specific models.

Noise/Vibration Information
The noise emission value given in these instructions has been measured in accordance with a standardized measuring procedure and may be used to compare power tools. It may also be used for a preliminary estimation of noise emissions. The noise emission value given represents the main applications of the power tool. However, if the power tool is used for other applications, with different application tools, or is poorly maintained, the noise emission value may differ. This may significantly increase noise emissions over the total working period. To estimate noise emissions accurately, the times when the tool is switched off, or when it is running but not actually being used, should also be taken into account. This may significantly reduce noise emissions over the total working period.

Assembly

For Your Safety
Warning! Switch off, and remove the plug from the mains before adjusting or cleaning. The same applies when the main cable is damaged, cut, or entangled. Observe correct mains voltage: The voltage of the power source must agree with the voltage specified on the nameplate of the unit. Equipment marked with 230 V can also be connected to 220 V or 240 V.

The circuit must at least be protected as follows: AXT Rapid 2000/AXT Rapid 2200 = 13 A An extension cable with a cross-section that is too small causes a distinct reduction in the performance capabilities of the machine. For cables to 25 m in length, a cross-section of at least 3 x 1.5 mm2 is required, for cables more than 25 m in length, the cross-section must be at least 2.5 mm2.

WARNING: Inadequate extension cables can be dangerous. Extension cable, plug and socket must be of watertight construction and intended for outdoor use. The connections (plugs and sockets) should be kept dry and off the ground. For increased electrical safety use a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30 mA. Always check your RCD every time you use it. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a Bosch Service Centre. Use only extension cords, cables, leads, and cable reels that comply with EN 61242/IEC 61242 or IEC 60884-2-7 and are of type H05VV-F or H05RN-F. When using cable drums, these must be completely unreeled.

Operation

Starting Operation

  • Always place the machine on firm-level ground. During operation, do not tilt or move.
  • The motor will coast after switching off!
  • Remove the earth from the roots. Foreign materials such as stones, glass, metals, fabrics, or plastics must not enter the chute assembly(7).
  • Otherwise, the cutting system (10) may be damaged.
  • The chute assembly (7) must be empty.

Starting (see figure F and I)

BOSCH-AXT-Rapid-2000-Electric-Garden-Shredder-fig-3BOSCH-AXT-Rapid-2000-Electric-Garden-Shredder-
fig-4
To start the shredder, rotate the On/Off switch (3) from position “OFF” to position “START”. Holding the On/Off switch (3) in that “START” position for about 2 seconds, then release it. The On/Off switch (3) moves to position “ON” automatically. The machine should start. The shredder will not start if the On/Off switch (3) is pushed in while starting. Let the On/Off switch (3) spring back out. Turn the On/Off switch (3) back to “OFF” and start again. If you hold the On/Off switch (3) in position “START” for too long, the shredder will stop. Turn the On/Off switch (3) back to “OFF” and start again.

BOSCH-AXT-Rapid-2000-Electric-Garden-Shredder-fig-16BOSCH-AXT-Rapid-2000-Electric-Garden-Shredder-
fig-17

For safety reasons, the shredder will not start unless the securing knob (2) of the chute assembly (7) is fully tightened. Stopping (see Figure H) To stop the machine, turn the On/Off switch (3) anticlockwise to “OFF”. Alternatively, and in an emergency, simply press the On/Off switch (3) inwards. You will then have to turn the On/Off switch (3) to “OFF” before you can restart the machine.

Restarting Protection
A mains failure causes the machine to switch off. The machine cannot restart on its own when the power returns.

Overload Protection
Overloading, e. g. blocking up of the blade, can lead to a standstill of the machine after a few seconds. After a short period, the machine can be switched on again. If the shredder blocks again, turn it off.

If the shredder blocks again, turn it off, pull out the mains plug, and clear the blockages. Continuous overloading and clogging of the motor ventilation slots can cause the thermal motor overload protection to trip. Clean the ventilation grid and turn the shredder off for several minutes to allow it to cool down. The thermal motor overload protection will reset automatically. However, the shredder will not start again until you turn the On/Off switch back to “OFF” and repeat the starting procedure.

Advice on Shredding
Branches become harder to shred depending on the type, age, and dryness of the wood. For best results, shred fresh branches soon after they have been cut. Soft garden waste should be shredded in smaller loads, particularly when wet. Any blockages can be avoided by intermittently shredding branches.
