PURPOSE
This design guide relates to the design and specification of EuroClad-Selekta.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
This guide must be read in conjunction with these documents:

PSP supplies details to assist in the detailing and specification of EuroClad- Seleka.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
EuroClad-Selekta is a prefinished, composite, shiplap cladding. It is manufactured from processed timber fibres and binding agent (phenolic adhesive). The cladding is embossed in a variety of realistic timber grains and colours.
EuroClad-Selekta is available in the following sizes:
Thickness (mm): 18
Length (mm): 5400
Width (mm): cover 155, sheet 170.
EuroClad-Selekta is manufactured in Germany by Werzalit. Only wood product from forests certified PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) is used. This ensures that the manufacturing process is sustainable with regard to economic,  ecological and social standards.

Design

To specify EuroClad-Seleka the required steps are described in this section.
Links to details to be included on the relevant plan sheet, are provided.

STEP 1: CONFIRM SCOPE
Confirm the proposed use is within the scope and limitations of the pass TM.

STEP 2: CONFIRM RELATED BUILDING WORK
EuroClad-Seleka is suitable for use with a timber or lightweight steel framed building.

Confirm the primary structure:
complies with the NZ Building Code and is designed in accordance with NZS 3604:2011 (section 2) or NASH Design Standard: 2019 Parts 1 and 2; or
is suitable for the intended building work, if the building is an existing building.
EuroClad-Seleka must be used with an appropriate building underlay or rigid air barrier and fixings.
Where the wind zone is extra high, a rigid air barrier that complies with Table 23 of Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 is to be used.
Confirm the building underlay and fixings comply with Table 23 of Acceptable Solution E2/AS1.

STEP 3: DETAIL THE USE OF THE PRODUCT
Select the orientation of the cladding

Detail cavity system

Confirm the importance level of the building in accordance with AS/NZS 1170.

EuroClad-Seleka must be installed over a drained and ventilated cavity unless the

building is unlined or importance level 1, in which case EuroClad-Selekta may be directfixed.

E2/AS1 may be relied upon for direct fixed installation subject to section 1.2.1 and associated comment.

For vertical installation over a cavity, castellated timber battens with chamfered tops are required. For horizontal installation over a cavity, solid timber battens are required.

Select the relevant PSP details to ensure that the battens are detailed in accordance with EuroClad-Selekta details.

Detail the cavity closers

Select the relevant PSP details to ensure that the cavity closers are detailed in accordance with EuroClad-Selekta details.

Detail laps, penetrations, joints and corners
Select the relevant PSP details to ensure that laps, penetrations, joints, external and internal corners are detailed in accordance with EuroClad-Selekta details.
Detail windows, doors and flashings
Select the relevant PSP details to ensure that the windows, doors and flashings are detailed in accordance with EuroClad-Selekta details.

STEP 4: QUALITY CHECK
Confirm all relevant design requirements are met.
Check documentation; including plans, details and specification guide have been correctly completed.
Ensure the building consent plans and specifications clearly define and include:
all relevant installation details
fixings – type and installation.
Check that all required documentation for the building consent application is collated.
