Product Usage Instructions

First Steps
To get started with your DAB+ Emergency Radio DR 112, follow these steps

  1. Unbox the radio and check the contents of the package.
  2. Extend the antenna to its full length for optimal reception.
  3. Choose a power source : integrated battery, hand crank, or solar panel.
  4. Press the On/Off/Mode button to turn on the radio or change the mode (DAB/FM/Bluetooth).

Basic Functions
The radio has the following basic functions

  • Favorites : Press the Favorites button to open a favorite radio station. Long press to save the current radio station to favorites.
  • Settings : Press the Settings button to toggle radio text information. Long press to enter the menu.
  • Confirm : Press the Confirm button to confirm any selection in menus. Long press to start a full scan in DAB/FM mode.
  • Navigation : Use the Right and Left buttons to navigate through radio stations. In DAB mode, use the Up and Down buttons to change stations.
  • Volume Control : Use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to adjust the volume of the radio.

Standby Mode
In standby mode, the radio is in a low-power state but still turned on. To enter standby mode or turn off the radio completely when already in standby, long press the On/Off/Mode button.

DAB+ Digital Radio Mode
In DAB+ mode, you can enjoy digital radio stations. Use the navigation buttons to change stations. Press the Confirm button to select a station from the menu. Use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to adjust the volume.

FM Radio Mode
In FM mode, you can listen to traditional FM radio stations. Use the navigation buttons to search for and change stations. Use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to adjust the volume.

Wireless Music Streaming (Bluetooth)
The radio supports wireless music streaming via Bluetooth. Pair your Bluetooth-enabled device with the radio and play music wirelessly.

SOS Emergency Call Function
In case of an emergency, you can use the SOS button to play a loud siren sound and activate the emergency light. This can help attract attention and signal for help.

Torch and Reading Light
The radio features a built-in torch for nighttime use. Press the Torch button to activate the torch. Press it again to change the torch mode. If the solar panel is flipped up, the button activates the reading light.

Thermometer
The radio has a built-in thermometer that shows the current temperature in degrees Celsius.

USB-C Charging and Headphone Socket
Use the USB-C charging/headphone socket to recharge the integrated battery of the Albrecht DR 112 or connect USB-C headphones for private listening.

USB Output
The radio has a USB output that functions as a power bank. You can use it to charge any mobile device.

Reset Button
If you encounter any software errors, you can perform a hard reset by pressing the reset button.

Charging Indicator

First steps

  • Thanks for purchasing the Albrecht DR 112 emergency radio.
  • Before you can start, you should fully charge the internal battery through the supplied USB-C charging cable. Connect it to any sufficient power source like a wall adapter, PC, laptop or similar.
  • Before use, fully extend the antenna for the best DAB+/FM radio reception. Long press the On/Off button until the radio powers on. If you use the radio for the very first time, the language selection menu will appear. Use the left and right buttons to select a display language and confirm with the OK button. The radio will then automatically perform a full scan of all available DAB stations and play the first station available.

Basic functions

  • Short press the On/Off button to switch between DAB, FM or Bluetooth mode.
  • Save your favourites stations by long pressing the favourites button.
  • Adjust the volume by using the and buttons.
  • In each menu you can confirm your selection by pressing the OK button.
  • Enter the menu by long pressing the button. Here you can find several functions related to the current mode, as well as the main menu, where you can set the alarm, select a language, adjust the backlight brightness and much more.
  • USB-C headphones (or other headphones using an USB-C adapter) can be connected to the USB-C connector of the device.

Standby mode
To put the radio into standby mode, long press the On/Off button . To reactivate the  radio, short press the On/Off button . To fully turn off the radio and preserve battery life, long press the On/Off button again in standby mode. No alarms are available,  when the radio is urned off completely.
In standby mode, press the settings button to quickly view your currently set alarm  settings, or press the OK button to quickly jump to the alarm settings wizard (see “10.1.   Alarm” on page 23).

Mode selection

To select the desired audio mode, short press the mode button , while the radio is  turned on.

The available audio modes are

  • DAB+ digital radio
  • FM analogue radio
  • Bluetooth wireless audio

DAB+ digital radio mode
Use this mode to listen to digital radio broadcasts. You can cycle through available stations with the left and right buttons. To access more functions, open the  menu by long pressing the settings button . Navigate the menu with the left and right   buttons, and use the OK button to confirm. To exit the menu use the  settings button   again.

DAB+ station search
The radio automatically performs a full station search when you turn it on for the first time.
If you would like to perform a full station scan again at a later time (e.g. after moving), press and hold down the OK button for approx. 2 seconds.

Station list
After the scan is complete, you can view all currently available stations in the station list, accessible in the menu. Navigate through the list with the left and right buttons and confirm your selection with OK.

Saving / recalling a favourites stations
If you want to save the current DAB+ station as a favourites, press the favourites button for about 2 seconds.
To recall a favourites later, short press the favourites button.

DAB menu
The DAB menu contains the following options

  • Trim invalid stations : Prune unavailable stations from station list.
  • Station order : Sort stations in the station list by name or frequency.
  • DRC: Adjust the level of the Dynamic Range Compression, reducing the volume differences between loud and quite passages.
  • Manual tune : Manually tune a DAB frequency.

FM radio mode

Use this mode to listen to analogue radio broadcasts. You can cycle through available stations by long pressing the left and right buttons. To access more functions, open the menu by long pressing the settings button . Navigate the menu with the left and right buttons, and use the OK button to confirm. To exit the menu use the settings button again.

FM station search
To perform a full station scan, press and hold down the OK button for approx. 2 seconds. All found radio stations will be saved in the favourites station list.

Setting the FM frequency manually

Press the left and right buttons briefly to set an FM frequency manually. The frequency is adjusted in 0.05 MHz steps.

Saving / recalling a favourite stations

  • If you want to save the current FM station as a favourites, press the favourites for about 2 seconds.
  • To recall a favourites later, short press the favourites button on the radio.

FM menu
Other menu items in the FM menu include

  • Scan settings: Restrict the full scan to strong stations only.
  • Audio settings: Only allow mono stations to improve reception.

Wireless music streaming (Bluetooth)

A Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone can be used for wireless playback of any audio content. For this purpose, you need to activate the “Bluetooth” mode by pressing the mode button . Once this is done, search for “ALBRECHT DR 112” on your mobile device. For more details about operation of your mobile phone, please refer to the device’s manual.

System setup

You can find the system setup in the menu of every audio mode.

  • Alarm
    • Use this menu to configure the alarm function. Two separate alarms can be programmed. Each alarm can be repeated daily, on weekdays or on weekends. The alarms can play a standard alarm sound or the last set FM or DAB station.
  • Backlight
    • Use this entry to set the display backlight illumination level and timeout.
  • Time setup
    • Use this entry to set time/date, change the time or date format or configure automatic time setting via FM/DAB.
  • Language
    • Select one of the following menu languages
    • English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Finnish, Polish
  • Factory reset
    • Reset the radio to factory settings.
    • Attention : All settings and favourites will be deleted by this procedure!
  • Software Version
    • The current software version of the radio is displayed here.

Battery charging

  • During the charging process, the charging indicator lights up red. As soon as the radio is fully charged, the charging indicator turns off.
  • Attention! Reception may be impaired during charging or when charging an external device via the USB-A output.

Solar panel

  • To recharge the radio, place the radio’s solar panel directly into sunlight. The panel can be tilted for optimal alignment. Be careful to not shade any part of the solar panel. Even small shadows can drastically decrease the panel’s performance.
  • Artificial light sources mostly do not provide enough energy to charge the radio.
  • 1 hour of solar charging can power the radio for about 20 minutes or the integrated torch for 1 hour.

Hand crank
To recharge the radio, extend the hand crank and turn it in either direction. For optimal charging, turn the crank at 120 – 150 rpm (2 – 2.5 times a second). 1 minute of turning can power the radio for about 3 minutes.

SOS emergency function
Use this function in an emergency to alert people near your location. To activate, long press the SOS button on the bottom of the radio. The radio will play a loud siren and flash a red and blue signal light.

Attention: The siren is very loud. Prolonged close range exposure can cause hearing damage. Try to set up the radio some distance away, when using the emergency function. Use of the emergency function drains the battery at an excessive rate.

Torch

  • To turn on the torch, press the button on top of the radio. If you press the button a second time, the light flashes.
  • If the solar panel is folded upwards, the button does not activate the torch, but the reading light under the solar module instead. This can be set to 3 different levels.

Safety instructions

  • Always make sure, the charging port cover is properly closed, to protect the device from moisture and humidity. Do not expose the device to water or other liquids while the charging ports are uncovered! Accidental penetration of liquids into the device can cause serious damage. Do not charge the device in wet environments!
  • Do not remove the screws to reduce the risk of electric shock. The device contains no user serviceable parts. Entrust maintenance work to qualified personnel.
  • Avoid both extremely high and extremely low temperatures. Do not place the device near heat sources such as radiators or gas/electric stoves.
  • Please note that excessive sound pressure or high volume can damage your hearing. Do not use the device a high volumes directly next to you head. Please be aware of the high volume of the emergency siren function.
  • Before cleaning the device, make sure it is unplugged from the charger.
  • Never throw batteries and rechargeable batteries into fire as this can cause an explosion. Please dispose of empty batteries in the recycling bin, not in the normal household waste.
  • Do not use scouring cloths or abrasive cleaning agents as these can damage the device surface.

Troubleshooting

Problem Remedy
The device does not switch on
  • Make sure the radio is charged, by connecting it to a power source and charging for at least 30 minutes.
  • If the radio is charged but still does not switch on, press the reset button under the charge cover with a small object.

No sound or low volume| Is the radio muted? Use the volume up button to increase the volume.
No signal or hissing in DAB/ FM mode.| Re-position the radio or change the antenna. Check that the antenna is fully extended.
Some buttons/functions can no longer be used|

  • Reset the radio to factory settings (see “10.5. Factory reset” on page 23).
  • Press the reset button under the charge cover with a small object.

Warranty and recycling Information

Legal warranty for 2 years from the date of purchase
The seller of this device grants you a legal warranty of two years from the date of purchase of the device. This warranty covers all failures that occur due to defective components or faulty functions within the warranty period, other than failures resulting from normal wear and tear, such as used batteries, scratches on the screen, housing defects, broken antennas, as well as defects due to external effects such as corrosion, over-voltage due to improper external power supply or use of unsuitable accessories. The warranty also excludes failures resulting from improper use of the device.
In the event of a warranty claim, please contact the dealer from whom you purchased the device or our service partner without delay. The dealer will either repair or replace your device, or it will refer you to a specialist service centre.
If you send in your device, please do not forget your purchase receipt as proof of the date of purchase and describe the fault that occurred as accurately as possible.

Electronic waste law and recycling
European laws prohibit the disposal of defective or unusable devices in the household waste. If you want to dispose of your device, make sure you hand it over to one of the municipal collection points for recycling. These collection points are financed by industry and ensure the environmentally sound disposal and recycling of valuable raw materials.
