Before you start
Power connection
- Install the viewing angle stand on the backside of the adapter. You can select between „Lower view angle“ (62°) and „Higher view angle“ (70°).
- Connect the power supply into the socket on the back of the adapter and place the cable antenna to a free space to obtain the maximum signal strength.
- Connect the RCA audio cable with the Audio Out socket of the Albrecht DR 53 and the other end to a suitable audio output device like home stereo system, active speakers, etc.
- Plug the power supply into the mains power wall socket.
- The adapter starts automatically and performs a full scan of the DAB+ band the first time it is used.
- When scanning is complete, the radio will select the first available station and begin the playback. By default, stations are sorted first by numbers and then by letter.
- Press the button to put the adapter into standby.
Basic functions
Adjusting the volume
Use the volume keys / on the remote control to adjust the volume.
MENU navigation
- Press the Home button to open the main menu
- Use the arrow keys ▲/▼ to scroll through the MENUs
- Move to the next sub MENU by pressing OK
- Go back to the previous MENU by pressing
Change mode between DAB+, FM and Bluetooth
Press the mode button on the remote control or at the top side of the adapter to switch between DAB+ / FM / Bluetooth mode
Main Menu
Press the Home button on the remote control to enter the main menu. You can select between DAB+, FM, Bluetooth, Favorits, Settings, Alarm and Senior Mode.
DAB+ digital radio mode
DAB+ station search
- The radio automatically performs a full station search when you turn it on for the first time.
- If you would like to carry out another station search again at a later time (e.g. after moving), go to the main menu and select Full Scan.
Station list
After the search is complete, you can view all currently available stations in the station list. To do this, either use the button to go to the DAB+ menu and select Station List or press the ▲/▼ arrow buttons on the remote control during radio operation.
Saving / recalling favourite stations
If you want to save the current DAB+ station as a favourite, press and hold
down the button for approx. 2 seconds. Now select a free memory location and
confirm your selection with OK.
Alternatively, press and hold down one of the favourite buttons 1-6 on the
remote control.
To recall a favourite again later, just briefly press the corresponding
favourite button on the remote control or select a station via the PRESET
menu. You can access this menu using the button on the device / remote control
or the main menu.
Up to 60 station presets are available, which can be “mixed” with DAB+ and FM
stations. The memory locations are independent of the reception mode, so
memory slot 1, for example, can be occupied with an FM station and memory slot
2 with a DAB station
DAB+ slideshow
If the current station has a station logo or album cover, you can enlarge the logo or cover to full\ screen by pressing OK. Press this button again to go back to the playback screen.
DAB+ menu
In DAB+ mode, press the button on the remote control to open the DAB+ menu. In this menu you can view a station list or initiate a new station search. You can also sort the station list by multiplex, name or current availability. The DRC function (Dynamic Range Compression) reduces the volume difference between quiet and loud programme sections and can be configured in two intensities. Use the “Clear station list” menu item to remove currently unavailable DAB+ stations from the station list. The main settings menu can also be opened directly from this menu.
FM Mode
The bar icon in the centre of the screen shows strength of the FM signal received by the device.
FM station search
The radio automatically performs a full station search when you switch it on
for the first time.
If you would like to carry out a station search again at a later time (e.g.
after moving), go to the main menu and select Full Scan.
Station list
After the search is complete, you can view all currently available stations in
the station list. Select the “Station list” menu item in the main menu (press
the button).
Navigate through the station list with the radio rotary knob or the ▲/▼ arrow
buttons on the remote control and confirm your selection with OK.
Setting the FM frequency manually
Use the ▲/▼ buttons on the remote control to change the FM frequency in 0.05 MHz increments. Press and hold down one of the arrow buttons to automatically search for the next available station.
Saving / re-calling favourite stations
FM stations can also be saved as favourites and quickly called up again. The operation procedure is the same as for DAB transmitters, see chapter „6.3. Saving / recalling favourite stations“
FM menu
In FM mode, press the button on the remote control to open the FM menu. In this menu you can view the station list or initiate a new station search. Use the “Search sensitivity” menu item t set whether only strong or all recognised stations should be included in the station search. The “Audio settings” menu item determines whether stereo transmitters should be used or whether playback should be limited to mono transmitters. The main menu can also be called up directly from this menu.
Bluetooth
- To switch to Bluetooth mode, press MODE on the remote control or on the top side of the adapter and select Bluetooth.
- Then enable Bluetooth on your mobile device (e.g. smartphone, tablet, etc.), search for active devices and connect to “Albrecht DR 53”.
- If the radio is successfully connected, music can now be streamed to the adapter. Thanks to the newest Bluetooth chip ISSC supporting ID3 installed inside the unit, the song information from your mobile device will be displayed on the screen of the adapter.
- If the adapter is paired with a mobile device and you would like to connect the DR53 to a different phone, go to the menu and select Bluetooth Pairing. The current Bluetooth connection is disconnected and you can now pair another mobile device with the adapter
Alarm Settings
Setting an Alarm
- Go to the main menu and select Alarm
- Select between Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 and confirm with OK.
Now you can set the following alarm options:
- Alarm: Select between Off, Daily, Once, Weekdays or Weekends
- Time: use the arrow keys ▲/▼ to set the alarm time
- Mode: select if the alarm should sound as Buzzer or DAB/FM station
- Save: do not forget to Save your alarm settings at the end
Once the alarm is set correctly the alarm symbol is shown in the display.
Stop the alarm
Once the alarm started, you can turn it off by pressing the Standby button. Press any other button to start the snooze alarm. It will start an alarm again after 5 minutes. The adapter shows a countdown timer with the remaining time until the next alarm.
System Settings
Settings can be called up from the main menu or individual menus in various modes.
Here you can make the following settings:
- Set the sleep timer
- Set the equalizer: Eight preset configurations are available
- Adjust screen brightness in operation and standby mode
- Set language: choose between English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Czech, Dutch,Turkish and Danish
- Reset the radio to factory settings
- Display the current software version
Press the MENU button again to exit the main menu without making a selection
Senior Mode
The “Senior Mode” simplifies the operation of the Albrecht DR 53 radio. In
Senior Mode an incorrect operation of the radio is virtually impossible,
because almost all options/buttons are disabled.
Unintentional radio adjustments are no longer possible.
In this mode only the following functions are enabled:
- On/off switching
- Volume control
- Favourite stations (number buttons 1-6)
To activate the Senior Mode, open the main menu with the HOME button and select the senior mode. After confirming the selection, a lock icon appears on the display. To disable the mode, quickly press the number buttons 1 and then 3 in succession on the remote control.
Attention! Please note that only six saved favourite stations are available when the senior mode is enabled. Other stations or playback modes can no longer be used. Therefore, make sure you save the desired stations to the favourites in advance.
